  1. The GC controller is absolutely perfect, except for the tendency for the sticks to not center after heavy use (minimized on the wavebird0, and its lackluster button positions for fighting games. Also, lack of analog buttons.

It is clearly the most comfortable however.

I can also say that Microsoft outdid themselves on the 360 pad, its easily the best PC compatible pad out now.

The Cube controller also has a terrible D-pad.

As far as nintendo controllers go, I really like SNES and the Wii Classic Controller.

Though classic would be even better if it were slightly thicker, enough to have playstation-style double shoulder buttons. A controller much like the PlayStation controller but without its flaws (bad D-pad, less comfortable than GC controllers imo).

More on topic, are controllers too complex?

I think the better question is are games too complex? A lot of games need that many buttons to control comfortably and have all the necessary functionality. Controllers are this way out of necessity,

  2. There's this one line in that song, that dub video had "This monkey wears to work" and the other video had "you could eat with a spoon YEAH"

Whenever I hear that line in game, I always hear "But the TV Exploded!"

The lines the videos used don't sound at all like what I heard :P

  3. Rest does more damage (if you include the Damage over Time flower it puts on the opponent's head) but less knockback.

Jiggs really needs rest knockback more than she needs rest damage.

Drack why haven't we played yet?

I've been pretty busy with schoolwork.

Also I never added you to AIM so we've never really been in contact.

Fixed the second problem, but the first isn't going away for a while.

And here's the biggest showstopper ever. Your friend code isn't in the database!

  4. You can still rising pound, it's just not as good.

I was a Falco main Jiggs alt in melee, and I cannot stand either in Brawl. I do like Meta Knight (great edgeguarding, many jumps) and Wario (good aerials, awesome air control, insane recovery with the bike) as Jigglypuff "replacements" though.

  5. Double Dash ... the AI is incredibly easy. MK64 got the difficulty just right, I think

The problem with MK64 AI was that it cheated. If you hit someone with a shell and they weren't in your field of view, there would be no time they spent rolling around after getting hit by the shell, they'd just lose their speed and IMMEDIATELY start accelerating back to it.

Get too far ahead? MK64 comps would get their cars magically upgraded. I could barely beat the AI one round, only to play the same course on the same difficulty again, get a time a full minute faster, and get second place.

With these huge issues apparant due to MK64's comeback AI, I cannot consider it good AI. Comps should be smart, but play by the same rules as the player.

  6. To that question above me - The boost system has been altered to where it charges up automatically during a sharp turn, so, the more you turn, the more boost you have. You must press a button and 'bam', you boost. I really like the idea. This will be a lot better for those non-snakers too. Even I got tired of constantly pressing buttons while trying to tend to the actual track and obstacles within it.

Sounds like Kirby Air Ride to me.

  7. I'm positive they're trying to ask whether the computers are complete dunces like in Melee, not how hard it is to beat them.

For example in Melee the CPU's wouldn't recognize when, say, there's an opponent charging a smash right beside them, or there's a giant PK Flash heading their way, or a Kirby Air Ride star is about to crash down on them - a human in any of these conditions would either run the hell away or charge the attacker, do SOMETHING smart to avoid getting hit, but the CPUs don't know what's what and get hit every time - they simply CANNOT see it coming, whereas a human can CLEARLY see the attack coming seconds before it arrives. Are Brawl's CPUs smarter and more human in this respect?

CPUs still don't change their behavior against charging smashes and incoming warp stars. It seems that they're generally good at attacking but don't observe the opponent's actions beyond simple things like position.

Even so, they're a greater challenge than Melee CPUs in general. For a character with a good AI (Like the CPU Meta Knight), a Level 7 will give about as much challenge as a Melee Level 9.

  8. So, in SSB64, wasn't Link decided as the best character? Strongest, and best range? I'm guessing in melee it was either falco or marth, because of their speed, strength and range. How about for brawl? in the videos, it looks like Link has been beefed up A LOT. which character would you brawl owners say is best?

Also, comment on the 64 and melee characters; I'd like to hear other opinions.

But...Let's try and keep it opinions, not a flame war, lol.

No. In '64, all the tourney-level players played Kirby and Pikachu. Link had no spike and a bad recovery.

In Melee, characters were more balanced. Tournaments were won most frequently by Fox, Falco, Marth, and Sheik players, in that order. Jigglypuff and Peach are close behind, but there are amazing players for every character.

For Brawl, it's way too soon to tell. The local tournament I attended had the top three being a Peach/Olimar player, a Metaknight player, and a Wolf player (me), but that really doesn't mean anything.

  9. A "combo" is when a character hits you during the time where you're stunned from the previous attack.

For example, Ganondorf does a Side B, which is changed form melee. It's an explosive grab that plants the target on the ground. He then does a down tilt, a ground kick which hits the target again generally before he can recover. This isn't a true combo as a victim with lightning fast reflexes can avoid the Dtilt.

Here's another. Metaknight's target is at 0% damage. He grabs and down-throws. Immediately after the down throw, he does a full forward tilt. Unless the victim pushed away from Metaknight with the Control Stick (DI or Directional Influence), they will be hit by the F-tilt (at least the last hit of it) before they can jump, dodge, or attack out of the combo. This only works for opponents undamaged or barely damaged, otherwise the throw's knockback would send the target out of range of the F-tilt.

  10. actually that video shows absolutely nothing

the only pikmin that would knock him off are the purple ones, the rest latch on and do damage but have no knockback at all

the basic problem with the tether recovery is that if someone is edgehogging and you use your tether it will hit them but not grab the ledge

this happens to me often, as my main is olimar

Atma is correct here. The Olimar in that video is an exception, he had a purple pikmin ready against the edge hog. And the Metaknight tried the melee-style slowly get up from the ledge move, which doesn't work in Brawl (only a few 100% plus get ups will hog the ledge for more than an instant). Again, bad edgehogging example.

By showing the exception rather than the rule, you're spreading misinformation.

  11. Bawww, I don't like interesting things, I only want flat boring crap because I can't handle anything random.

Skill at the game should be the only factor at a tournament. For friendly matches, bring it on. All stages, items if you want em. I find friendlies a hell of a lot of fun.

  12. The only maps I like at a tourney level (And I played at a tournament Saturday night) are Battlefield, Yoshi's Story, and Smashville.

Battlefield and Smashville ledges are fair. FD and Lylat Cruise, have bad ledges that favor characters that don't get stuck under them. This particularly hurts me as a Wolf main. The Wind Waker map is awesome, but the cannonballs are too powerful for tournament play. Melee Corneria, Melee Onett, Shadow Moses Island have walls that some jabs can stick you to for a (perhaps) infinite combo (though I'd prefer to have the technique banned and the maps open).

Warioware without the minigames would be a fair stage. I'll probably build it.

Keep in mind this is just for tournament play. For friendly matches, I'll play any map. Norfair is a hell of a lot of fun, especially with the CD-unlocked Golden Sun music.

  13. Holy cow -- is that an assist trophy effect? Definitely cool if it is.

    No, that's the STAGE.

When you pick Spear Pillar, you get a random legendary pokémon in the background that does super annoying stuff. Either Dialga or Palkia shoots huge lasers and flips the stage camera (horizontally sometimes vertically sometimes). If you get Cresselia she throws these huge buzzsaw-like hazards at players.

  14. Tripping isn't too bad.

It is indeed completely random. It is rare. It's dumb, but you can use a get-up attack or roll or whatever to get out of it so it's not a real nuisance.

Mew2King's "review" after playing a few hours is about how I felt after playing one match. It's not Melee. Not even close. After playing a few hours I loved it, and after a few days I've adapted completely and can play Brawl reasonably well (No one is pro at this game yet. This takes time to thoroughly learn all the system's ins and outs and figure out what this means for you and your opponent).

Tourney fags are tourney fags. They have their own viewpoint, I have mine. Brawl has met my sky-high expectations.

  15. also this whole taunt to switch samus thing is either extremely difficult or im retarded

It's quite hard to pull off. When I tried once I got it almost immediately, but a second time I tried for over 2 minutes and nothing.

The command should have been much easier. Also, gamecube D-pad sucks, probably easy on Classic Controller.

  16. I've been playing this game ALL WEEKEND.

It is INCREDIBLE. I have ZERO complaints. When this game comes out in America, I'm buying it. I suggest you do the same, it does not disappoint.

And the music! I have *EIGHT* tracks for the Star Fox stage, all of which are awesome.

Yet to unlock the last three characters.

Atma, you've been friend roster'd. My code's in the DB. I'm going to be somewhat busy with college work today, but I may be available for wifi sometime tonight.
