  1. I guess this thread will die soon or when the new sub-forum comes along, but I'll post what I wrote for the competition. I think it could still work if we extend the deadline until after Off-Topic appears and let people revise & re-sub if they want to.

I don't want the competition to die, but if it absoloutely has to, then at least it pushed me to write a little.

    A poem:

    4-19

I looked up as a sea fell

    on my yard and back

    at the 4 foot suit

    as he adjusted his shades

    He spoke srsly

    while his partner rolled

    down the window

    in the SUV

    She mentioned a code

    and they left

    And a short story:

    Radcliffe Residence 9/3/97

I, James Widdel, hereby claim this to be my final will and testament, as current circumstances lead me to believe that I am unlikely to survive for much longer. My home is 121 Wiltse Road and in the event of my death anyone who may find any possession of mine is welcome to enjoy what they can.

I arrived here, at my friend Robert Radcliffe’s home shortly after sundown. There is a radio, but its batteries died after I found out that the outside world is oblivious to this. The power is out and things have gotten pretty quiet. I blocked the doors with furniture and closed the storm shutters. Bob always keeps his pantry stocked, so I should be here for a while.

It’s been a crazy week, but the rioting seems to have calmed down a little. I still have hope, but I thought the government would have stepped in by now. Maybe no one knows how bad it is down here. I’m going down to the basement to see if I can sleep for five minutes without having a nightmare.

    p.s. 10/1 Out of food. Found Bob’s gun. Moving on. – J.W.

  2. There's no way I'm getting this done tonight.

I would just like to say that I think the midi sounds really good when the bpm is cut in half (77.5 bpm).

I could have done this if I made the time, but I've been finding it hard to be really excited about these lately. I think I'll stay out of PRC for a little while and focus on just making a mix sound good without worrying about the time. I need to learn percussion anyway.

  3. 1.) Where did you get the idea that everyone knows how to draw animé style?

2.) Do your hands shake all the time? Maybe you should see a doctor or get approximately 8-10 hours of sleep a night. Maybe your muscles are meerly weak and need excersize. If that is the case, grab pen & paper and get to drawing/writing.

The only way to get good at something is to do it. If your problem is meerly stylistic, then grab some refrence photos or drawings and try to emulate what you see.

p.s. don't double post without a good reason, especially if it's only been a few minutes.

  4. Gans...is busy prepping his adaptation of "Onimusha".

    Nooooooooo! My precious Onimusha.

I like Brotherhood of the Wolf (a little) and Silent Hill (except what they did with the cult and Dahlia), but I always get worried when a series I like gets translated onto the big screen. It very rarely turns out well. I mean they might change the genma into christian demons and then samanosuke-realized-as-a-woman will fight satan to the death in a rediculous wire-fu battle.

Hmm... lets see: Disney is distributing it if it happens and there's a production company involved. Reported $50M budget. Most of the news I find about it is 3 years old.

  5. Speaking of fonts, for a very long time now I've been having a hard time trying to figure out how to add a border to tiny text (or any text) like the bitmap fonts used in doulifée's badges. example:

    winter2k6v2wi0.png

[whine]I use GIMP, but it should still be possible, right? And before you say "google tutorials", I already have.

I need an idea of how the process works and I haven't found tutorials that help with my specific problem.[/whine]

  6. I want the GameCube version of RE2. My PC version is all messed up. The movies/music never worked and then it wouldn't save. Although I've gotten pretty good at beating the game in one go without saves and it's pretty cool to be able to set up a playlist in the background for a custom zombie hunting soundtrack. Birkin's instant death pipe swipe makes me not want to play though. The last tyrant is also scary when you haven't saved at all.

  7. Just got a button. 8)

I looked at the envelope in confusion for a few seconds. At first I wondered why someone would send me something in the mail, and then I wondered who the person sending it was. The name certainly looked familiar...

I'm no button aficionado, but I think it looks nice.

    Thanks VGDJ.

I think 300 x 90 pixels is a good standard for sigs. If DJP would strictly enforce a resolution (and size limitation) like this, then the forums would load much more efficiently.

And Bummerdude, your work is awesome. :D

I like 350x100 right now, but I'm glad there isn't any kind of size limit for signature pictures. Besides, they aren't hosted here anyway.

  9. So a friend was asking around for recording advice and I thought someone here might have some helpful input on the matter. And, yes, I know most people here don't deal with live instruments all the time.

Thought somebody out there might find these notes and questions useful, plus looking for advice about this. If you have any questions ask me.

Our aim is to get a really warm thunderous seventies sound without spending a fortune in a studio or on gear.

Very happy with our Midas board going into a Mackie hard drive. A little unusual because the Midas is a live board but it has a great warm British sound.

Tried a TL Audio Ivory 5051 for my voice, but like the RNC better. Going to try a Joe Meek 6 on it too. But here's the big question. We need a stereo compressor for drums and another for the buss.

We plan on trying a Valley People Dynamite on our drum tracks. You can still get these puppies fairly cheap.

For the drums Nitebob said get a Joe Meek 3SC and or DBX 70s 160s (good luck finding some!) For the stereo buss Bob said he actually likes the RNC. But I'm leaning toward a UA 1176 or a Distressor or a Fatso or an LA2A or maybe even a Manley Mu. This will probably be the most expensive piece of our recording chain.

Just heard from Jack Endino, he says he never uses a compressor on the stereo bus!

Anybody out there have experience with these compressors? I'd love some advice please!
