  1. Fantastic arrangement Prophet. Did you play all of the sax parts yourself?

After listening to your entry, I wish I'd have thought more seriously about recording live Trombone parts for my entry. The samples aren't terrible though.

What's the name of the reverb you used by the way? It sounds great.

    Good luck everyone.

  2. Rexy, I'm so sorry. I got confused with the new times. My mix has been ready for a couple of days and I logged on now to post it, only to find that the voting stage has started. :(

I spent a long time on it, but if there's no way of adding my mix to the competition I'll just submit it as a bonus mix.

Even if this doesn't make it into the competition, I'd still appreciate feedback from everyone. :)

It's the longest and probably best overall remix I've ever done so I'll be kicking myself if it's definately too late to enter.

Anyway, here's the link to the entry - either official or bonus:

  3. It's pretty cool to know that there are a few Trombonists on OCR.

I have been playing for 7 to 8 years. I'm in quite a few ensembles - wind band, orchestra, big band and various school bands (the 3 bands mentioned are part of my local music centre - or "academy of music and dance" as it's more corretly known as.

I have never played in a marching band, but it seems like there are marching bands all over the place in the USA. You even have competitions, don't you?

I have, however, played Fanfare Trumpet (not the standard one, but a bigger one with an embouchure very similar to the trombone (and a mouthpiece virtually the same size). I have been part of a Fanfare team on three occasions - first playing with a wind band, second with an orchestra and most recently (at a christmas concert a couple of weeks ago, in fact) with just the team on its own.

Also, on the subject of intonation, I know how sensitive it is on the tenor trombone. Over the years, I've come to discover that there are in actual fact a heck of a lot more than 7 positions on the trombone.

  4. I play Tenor, grade 8. I'm just curious, as I've started a Trombone quartet remix of a game tune (influenced heavily by Joseph Alessi). I'd love to show a preview to whoever is interested.

Over here in England, Trombonists are fairly rare in some parts of the country. What's it like in America? Also, do you have a grading system? Because my grades are ABRSM and I'm sure it's different in other parts of the world.

  5. Just to clarify, the track "Opening/Bombing Run" means that you want the opening song in the game (i.e. the music that you hear when you see the first CS with the stars and Aeris' face) and then to go into the bombing run? I know that there are a couple bombing runs, and which one would need to be done (if this all makes sense).

It would be the first bombing run - as in the mission you're thrown into at the start of the game. :)

  6. I feel slightly out of place in this topic; a newb remixer surrounded by the big names all going for the competition.

I think I'll be working on an entry. Although I have no clue what style I'll be going for. Also, not that it matters, but I'd be entering because I love the game - I have a lot of childhood memories of it. So prizes don't come in to it.

  7. Anyway, this is a method that I actually give all due credit to DistantJ. When I wanted to call onto VG Frequency for the first time, I mentioned it in the VGMix chatterbox and he pointed out Telediscount. He saw it as the way to be able to call his peers (was it his girlfriend?) from abroad. So I used that and followed the instructions to get onto the show the following Saturday... and many other Saturdays after that.

For VGDJ I took that method and just replaced the WMRE number with yours. So, if there's any Brits reading this, this is what you do:

    * Dial the access number for calls to the United States - check here for the number, which sometimes changes once in a while.

    * When it says "please enter the number you would like to call and finish by pressing the hash (#) button" you just type 00 and THEN the VGDJ number. In this case it's 001 800 990 VGDJ (8435 if you can't see any letters imprinted on your phone).

    * If you hear the VGDJ intro music followed by our hosts speaking about the answering machine, you know you're at the right place.

And there we go. A viable method for British users to call to VGDJ. :)

Thanks Rexy, I might give it a go sometime.

  8. Fantastic show Pixie and Zircon!

I was wondering, your voicemail... is that only available for US callers? Because I'm over in the UK and in the time I've been listening to your show, I have no recollection of any Brits, Ozzies etc leaving a message. :dstrbd:
