I got nothin' against iLok-based stuff. It's been super-easy to work with for the past five years for me.
Ditto here as well.

At first I was a little flustered as to how I lost to Esperado, due to a smaller track length and less source usage of laguna's theme. Then I realized that I failed at the integration of both tracks and maybe some of the sound choices weren't as good as I initially thought. I guess I got lazy there >_>
Esperado's take was very creative and surprisingly cohesive, despite the 2 sources being completely dissimilar, so yea, I got beat good. Oh welll, I'd prob lose next bracket anyhooo
I actually really liked so much about your song. The problem was it felt like 3-4 tracks just playing one after another. Which kinda goes against the idea of the compo. I'd say take your best section from that and make a full song out of it.
-
Pretty much, I'd do the 11/4 of Sazh and just work the other bits into it somehow
Too bad I was an idiot and literally wrote and arranged all of the percussion in 4/4 first. Was in a mood and inspired. Thanks for the support guys! Shaggy really interested to hear your take on the themes.
-
There is so much to love about both tracks.
Yeah I absolutely loathe alternating/complex time sigs like this. 5/4 by itself or 6/4 great, but not this. Don't know how this is going to turn out this round. BC frankly this just isn't fun integrating a 4/4 song with a song that alternates like that. We'll see what kind of tom foolery becomes of this.
-
Shaggy I am going to get you next time I see you! This f'n song alternates between 5/4 and 6/4 every other measure.
May the best man win! I will be spending tonight rewriting the damn time sig on this track, holy christ.
BTW Chimpazilla and Timaeus...I have to sleep on the decision for your tracks. So close.

Bump and slight price drop. And added another product.
-
You should have the option to join the group on the group's page.
Ahhhhh got it. Thanks!

Back to the world of the internet! Sorry I couldn't vote, my travel plans back were all f'd up.
BTW trying to vote on the current round, and I don't have any options to vote. Can someone add me to the social group please?
-
Hey guys I found out I have zero access to the internet while on vacation. Had to wait 15 minutes to get on the general computer at the hotel. I won't be back in the states until late Saturday! Sorry I can't listen to anyone's tracks yet. Thanks and good luck!
-
I also am sort of interested in the Kramer tapes, tubes, transistors as well as the arts acoustic reverb. Give me a couple days to consider .
Cool. BTW I am selling the bundle AND the individual plugs. For example if you just wanted the tape plugin you could get that.
Also dropped the price on the IK Grand bundle to $279. Great plugs! Willing to make a deal on those if anyone is interested.

Basically done. Gonna wake up tomorrow with fresh ears and do any quick mix adjustments. Then gonna do the mastering.
-
I could probably have it within a month. That'd give me time to pay off my credit card and be sans obligations, if I keep earning money at my current rate (which is likely). If it sells between now and then, no biggie, but I am definitely eyeing that pack.
Cool beans. I'd rather sell it to someone on OCR. I'll keep it at that price and see what happens.
-
Man, I really want the Kramer Tape/Tube/Transistors. I just haven't got any money to spare right now.
When do you think you would? I don't need the money asap, so I could hold onto for awhile.

Bump goes the thread.

Got a minute and a half done...just wish my DAW didn't crash every 2 fuckin seconds when I try and load a plugin. Hope everyone is having fun!
-
Happy bday dude!

Yeah, that's some theory skills. Can we all get DarkeSword remixing guidance? Now Avaris has an advantage!
Haha well I am actually using Beatrix's chords for this track. Too late to turn back now. Basically I will have to have this finished by 12-2pm on Saturday. Thank god my girlfriend is pulling a couple night shifts at the hospital this week so I got some time during the evenings.
Really excited to hear everyone's tracks!
-
Nice, thanks for the breakdown Shariq! I've remixed this track numerous times and always run into problems with progressions and building other elements.
-
Is this theyou're talking about? Because that's literally the main theme of Final Fantasy IV slowed down, and is very much just in a regular old minor key.
It is that theme. You are correct in a sense it sounds like it is in a Minor key. The melody is almost verbatim. There is one big difference between this source and the main theme. The arpeggio is not in any apparent key:

The 1st 4 bars contain F, F#, G, G#. The track derives significant emotion from this. It makes working with the track difficult. This arpeggio is present in the 2nd half main theme:

However in the main theme, these notes are played extremely fast, decreasing the apparent dissonance to the human ear. Also they are accompanied by apparent chord changes.
My theory skills are beginner level. Remixing Cry in Sorrow while maintaining the emotion of the original is a big challenge. Hopefully it will help me to improve in this area. It is one of the main reasons I chose it as my track and why this competition is so appealing to me personally. To help improve apparent weaknesses I have as a musician.
-
I don't care if I am double posting but this is tough! Beatrix is in 3/4 and Cry in Sorrow has no discernible key. The whole riff is based around 4 notes all within a half step of each other.
Good luck and god speed!
