  1. Something I think is somewhat necessary to become a "master" at your craft (See Malcolm Gladwell's 10,000 hour rule). I may have to make a separate thread on the community forum where I can talk about what my thoughts are on this in more detail.

Ironically you'd be closer to your goal by working on music instead of thinking about it and creating a thread. :P

Sounds like you really just want to improve your time management skills. Also it takes around 30 days to create a habit or break one. Do something for 30 days straight and then see how difficult it is to stop that habit. ;)

  2. 3. Spend less time debating Generation Y (and X) with their complete unwillingness to be humble or open-minded, and instead just annoy them with logic as it is less time-consuming and more satisfying on my end (within the realm of reason).

    Bwhahaha this is awesome.

Also Sylix, why not make enough songs for 3-4 albums. Buuut only release 1 album with the best songs. :)

  3. AWESOME PUPPY PIC!!!

Btw just my 2 cents on the production/mixing conundrum. They are both equally difficult just in entirely different ways. In electronic music you have to constantly design and re-design sounds that not only sound good but sound good together. in recording it can a huge PITA to get a good recording. If either of those areas are messed up you are in for a helluva time mixing. Crap in crap out.

Also the mixing techniques to carve out space can differ greatly. In electronic music you often have more creative and flexible methods at your disposal. However in alot of electronic songs you are dealing with 40-120 tracks. That is alot of shizz to account for and manage sonically. In contrast, a recorded instrument genre has less instruments. Therefore, your mixing decisions are more exposed to the listener.

If someone gave me a properly written, recorded, and produced track I would choose to do the rock song over the 120 track dance song. It would take less time.

  4. avaris --- The mixing is pretty loud! :D The clap is pretty quiet. Putting aside my general distaste for 808 percussion and siren-style wubs, the production can objectively be tighter. The bass isn't as "grounded" as it can be, the drops aren't super impactful, and either the lead is too loud or the backing instruments are too quiet because of the overcompression. Cool arrangement. Still, as your attempt at this genre for the first time, it sounds much better than most people could have managed (though this type of hip hop production may have been popularized quite a bit). Great job!

Thanks for the critique. Yeah I barely had anytime to work on this. And tracks of this nature/genre are very tricky to mix quickly. When I checked what it sounded like on my crap headphones at work this morning I noticed alot of problems. It's a the reason why if you have the time you should always listen to your track on multiple devices.

  5. Tuberz McGee

Lovely intro. Like the little 8-bit synth. Ooooh, like the guitars too. :) And you managed to include the Kain theme. Very impressive and natural combination.

1:42 really expected and wanted some drums here. Made this section feel flat.

Guitars sounded a little brittle and harsh at times. Just some gentle EQ'ing and small amounts of tastefull FX could fix that. Great track, hope you submit it!

  6. Waaaaaaait a minute I thought there was only going to be 1 winner in the matchup of three people? :(

I was so amped up this week bc the competition was heightened.

Brandon, I thought Chimpazilla said she was already out of this next round. So why don't Tuberz and I compete in the pre-final with these songs already submitted. And then have Evktalo and Chernabogue compete this week? Otherwise we all literally remixed songs for this round for nothing. Trust me I wish everyone could submit. :)

  7. Submitting my track here in a sec. Just want to put a disclaimer out there, take it as you will. I used this track/tutorial as a basis for my track:

    http://www.groove3.com/str/Making-Trap-with-Reason.html

I recreated everything from watching the videos. I do not have the source file. Most of the drums are verbatim and some of the dubby synths. Also the arrangement is almost the same.

Never made trap/dub before and I had tons of family staying and coming and going from my house this week. This was my way to balance this competition for this week with work and life.

looking forward to the entries for this week!

  8. I miss those nights where I gave you homeopathic sleep medicine and you were hilarious the following days. <3

Haha I just had a wisdom tooth pulled a couple weeks ago...that herbal shite would have been waaay better than vicodin. I have never been so relaxed and aloof my whole life, well except for those "special" times. <3

  9. 1. Learn to code in at least two other programming languages.

    2. Maintain weight while seeing general toning of physique and upping my lung capacity with cardio.

    3. Clean up the damn house and have it stay that way.

    4. Not be so stressed all the time.

    5. Finish at least two courses of French.

    6. Resolve all outstanding collaborations and music-related obligations so I can have a clean plate for a while.

Big hug. :) I am going to have to do #1 for work.

I really just want to live my life to fullest everyday and pursue what inspires me.

  10. Man something I noticed in the last round, sometimes it's easier to choose a main source, like Gilgamesh or whateva, and then write your additional source in that time sig. I think Lulu and Hope could both be done well in 3/4 but at first I was thinking of squeezing them both into 4/4. I dunno, it's worth playin' around with :-D You know what you doing!

    Haha u know I completely agree. :)
