  1. Like, One or two spots in a Hotel Suite. I'd have to ask McPuff for the details, but he sleeps during the day. Also, seeing as they aren't the rooms I'd be staying in, it would likely have to be someone with whom Jiggle was familiar. I'll try to lure him out with some Mario Party 8 tonight to see if I can get him to post on the topic.
  2. Any recommendations on exactly what I could use for a blunt force base line there? I want something with a significant presence, kindof a "doom" feel as it rumbles along in the bassline. I have no intention of using a drumloop for this song for several reasons. 1) They're too generic 2) this is Not a techno song, thus the "Thump Thump Thump Thump" is totally inappropriate and 3) Drum loops don't allow for very much variation or feeling. I will see if I can make the drums feel a little more natural, but I'm probably going to keep them acoustic for a more raw visceral feel. I don't think I'll add another chord structure to this as that would introduce a completely new section to the song, thereby making it too long and incongruous. I'm fond of artists like Daft Punk who can take the exact same theme and run it through a build up intro into a theme, break, introduce a different more regular theme, then slowly break it back down to the beginning. It's got a very nice circle of life feel to it for which I am striving. Any feedback as to why this is a bad approach would be useful, and I guess I'll need some recommendations on individual instruments or samples to use.
  3. oh, by the way, the lack of Purple Tentacle's presence will be opening up a spot in a Hotel room. I can talk to Jiggles mcpuff and see if he can provide any insight on at least a Cheap hotel room.
  4. Been futzing around with FL Studio for a couple of weeks and this is one of the better things I've turned out. I've been tweaking the velocities and adding and subtracting lines to make it feel more streamlined, but I guess I'm just not confident that this is necessarily OCRemix material, especially with all of the poorly done Bloody Tears remixes I'm sure we've all experienced. Decided to take it to the experts. I started out by playing around with the instruments on FL Studio and practiced just writing some stuff. Then the intro to bloody tears just seemed to compliment it very well. From there I worked in the main body of the song. I've been having trouble reinterpreting songs since my main love is for the original song and I am merely paying homage to it by working around it's constructs. I'm pretty fond of how everything seems to blend, but hey, I've never submitted before. Any suggestions? http://puffberries.nrgservers.net/The%20Green%20Tentacle/Red%20Eyed%20Repose.mp3
  5. So, yeah, feelin' stupid. I guess I'll actually have to use the "search" function next time instead of relyin' on the old eyeballs. Myself and Jiggles McPuff are attending, but I fear that Purple Tentacle may not be attending this year. I will definitely be at the panel and hope to join in other group festivities should any occur. Perhaps McPuff will keep me apprised this year and I won't have anyone to "babysit". If all goes according to plan, I'll be the guy in the front row in the fun costume. Again.
  6. I heard from a particular Pokemon enthusiast that OCR will be gracing us with their presence at Otakon 2007. I was wondering whether or not it was true, and what kind of presentation we might expect. Ever since Otakon 2006, I've wanted to get posted on Overclocked, but I fear that my understanding of the "techie" bits is woefully lacking, and I would love to see a presentation, perhaps even a workshop one year, on the basics above and beyond writing the music itself. I've read the tutorials and listened to the VGDJ clips, and I still just don't know how to really do the fancy stuff with my FL Studio. For everyone else going to this years Otakon, what would You like to see out of this years panel if there is one?
  7. I find it interesting that both the words "remix" and "rearrangement" are being used in this thread. This is not a remix, but it is a beautiful arrangement of a theme and variation. That point seems well done with just how closely the first part resembles the original, but with better instrumentation. It then seems to continue to repeat those themes with subtle arpeggiations and flourishes that polish the song off nicely. The song does end rather suddenly as others have mentioned. I wish I had the dough to get the equipment you must need to get such a high quality recording and such high quality samples (a fairly realistic sounding trumpet is virtually impossible, I'd rather just play the line myself sometimes!) I dunno, I still like the Black Mages version better. No one can top Nobuo. As far as REmixes, I'm still with Triforce Majeure as my favorite.
