  1. New idea:

Pick Parasite with Tundra on your team. Possess Tundra's scout -- Parasite then moves invisibly through the enemy jungle at 500ms, tracking down that low HP jungler. Emerge from bird form on top of their head, rock them.

So many shenanigans to try with him :P

Haven't tried it in game yet, but I want to build puzzlebox on him. He can possess a lvl 3 puzzlebox minion, deal massive damage, and if he's targeted and they kill his host, they take a massive nuke before even fighting him.

  2. The best part is how my birthday was yesterday, but this thread came up so late that everyone's saying so today :P

It was still your birthday in Hawaii when I posted! If its the same country it counts! :3

Hope it was a good one! Bonzai hopes so too. :)

  3. Does it say that it is a gift from someone? I thought that gifts usually have a name under them. I know that some of the items I received as gifts have a name under them. I don't know if the same rules apply to gift wrap. Also, congrats on your hat.

Edit: I checked your backpack and you received it from Dark_Stool. He's on your friends list and I think he frequents tf2auctions as well.

Yeah he's a guy I don't know, but I always traded him my crates because he was atrociously generous. Now and then I would insist on giving him crates for free because... well he was too nice, and I honestly couldnt care a less for the crates anyway. But I never talked to him outside of trading, and I dont know him outside of that. After not launching tf2 for over a month I came back to a gift and I was all wtf? And it was an unusual hat.

  4. Wait, so because there's a big honkin' weapon on the right side of the screen for most classes, that provides an advantage? Am I the only one that strafes corners?

Not sure I get what you mean. With right handed character's, shots actually originate from the right side of your model, not the middle. For instance if youre turning left around a corner, you can press your face up against the wall (nothing but wall in your vision) you can still shoot and hit things around the corner because essentially 'your gun can see them'. This means that if you're a soldier or a demo, you can spam rockets or stickies at sentries and land direct hits, without ever seeing the sentry (more importantly the sentry never seeing you).

Alternatively, if you're turning RIGHT, you might not see the wall at all anymore, but you might still hit it because your gun hasn't cleared it yet.

Now imagine 2 soldiers in close proximity, on either side of a corner. The soldier that has the wall on his left will be able to land direct rockets, while the soldier with the wall on his right will deal 0 damage to the opposing soldier, and barrage himself with splash damage. Its a considerable advantage.

TLDR: right handed character models are a big to do.

  5. and i think a couple of the maps it actually made it easier for the defenders..... (mirror dustbowl point three, i'm looking at you)....
Wait, what? You'll need to explain that one to me.

Except take your time since I'll be gone for a week.

Only thing I can think of is right handed character models being default. The corridors between point 1 and point 2 are normally left turns for offense, which means they can spam rockets and stickies around the corners without being visible. If the map was mirrored then defense would then have that to their advantage? Not sure how else balance could be affected by mirrors.

  6. Geh! Honestly I don't like how that new gas mask looks. It's just too... white and doesn't seem like it fits in well. Just my two pence.

Not gonna lie, it scared me the first time I saw it through a sniper scope. It still died when i shot it though, so i was less frightened. :3

  7. Apparently TF2 has been updated with some new paint colors and a "Festive Winter Crate."

Also, in case anyone happened to miss my rather vocal bitching tonight, I've been lagging to an insane degree lately. I thought it was just me, but Lumpy tells me that he's been experiencing the same thing. Either way, it's extremely annoying and has directly caused my death numerous times. (You try surviving when the game decides to lag and freeze you in front of a Pyro. Or hell, anyone.)

Basically, is there something going on with the server?

On an unrelated note, I may not be online much over Christmas break.

I get spikes frequently, have for over a month now. Its not constant, which almost makes it more annoying.

  8. TF2 decided to troll me again and gave me a Baseball Bill's Sports Shine. Which I promptly crafted with some of my other hats until I got one I'm vaguely interested in. (Physician's Procedure Mask) Although I'd have preferred Ze Goggles...

I guess with so many hats now it's inevitable that I don't care about most of the ones I receive.

You can easily trade the mask for zee goggles if you want. It's in considerably higher demand. Especially now that zee goggles can be found in a crate.

  9. Poker Night is all of $5 ($3 today and tomorrow).

Speaking of which, getting the Heavy's new minigun is one of the objectives for today/tomorrow.

One of the others requires that you own R.U.S.E. and chances are that anyone who bought an RTS the time RUSE came out got Starcraft 2 instead.

Right but anyone and everyone who bought that $5 game, and any other promotional hat game during its repective promotion, have demonstrated to valve that this is an extremely valid marketing scheme.

    • If Sam&Max's pre-order numbers are blown out of the water while that promo was active (and they were) then maybe people will be willing to pay for a game that isn't even a stand alone title.

    • If copious amounts of people buy an otherwise worthless game for $5, then maybe they'd be willing to dish out more than $5 for potentially well developed games.

    • Then if enough people do that, maybe people will spend more than $20 for a worthless game. (and or a game that needs help selling)

    Etc.

This isn't ridiculous. It's a glorified TF2 mannconomy shop. And it's in no poorer taste than the shop itself.

Side note: I know people who own R.U.S.E. because it looked good.

  10. It's time for the great Steam Treasure Hunt!

Personally, I think this is ridiculous. The only way to get the best TF2 hat from this hunt is to complete every objective in this treasure hunt. And most objectives involve owning different games.

I figure I have a large enough Steam library that I might get one or two of those hats, but definitely not the third.

I wouldn't say this is any more ridiculous than pokernight at the inventory. In fact, I'd say it's less ridiculous. Because chances are if you get some of these achievements, you're legitimately interested in the games you own. It likely isn't going to be a reflection of who is willing to pay for items/hats (unlike pokernight), but rather a reflection of your interest in other games. Of course it doesn't hurt valve to have people who're insane enough to actually purchase enough games to unlock hats, and those insane people deserve to pay insane amounts of money to complete their collection. So it's win win!

I do find the name of the last hat amusing though. While its certainly displays the player's wealth.... the respect part is fairly ironic. :)!!

  11. On the Highlander front, we had a strategy session today, which basically boiled down to "We know these maps, let's just play smart and not act stupid." Also I spent the entire second half of our Steel session being a Spy on the opposite team and having gleeful, cackling fun with the C&D. Some highlights:

-On Badwater offense, we're going to have a group of 4 pushing the cart and the rest pushing ahead, but not so far that they can't come back to assist at the cart if necessary.

-The roof of Badwater is vital, no news there. B is the best point to try and stop them completely at when defending.

-The first point of both Badwater and Steel is more of a speedbump rather than a serious attempt to stop the enemy completely when defending.

-On Steel, watch the number of people coming out the gate to attack A. Use this to gauge how many are going to go for E or set up sneaky forward bases. The Scout or Spy should be at B to help out with this.

-This goes without saying, but prioritize E over any other point when defending Steel.

-Watch out for the enemy Sniper.

EDIT: Also, as a reminder, our match is tomorrow at 9 PM EST.

Post more strategies on a public forum. :)!!

  12. What does this mean?

-Gunboats new penalty: -20% self damage force

Also, I'm looking forward to exploiting some of these changes. :)!!

Saharan Spy is, I think, meant to have +10% movement speed bonus (not minus).

Silly Aero, that "-" is a bullet point, not a negation.
