Mega Man X: The Grand Maverick Remix Battle 2012

Sorry to hear that, man. I was looking forward to a good matchup but I understand. A bit of advice if you'll hear it: If there's one thing I've learned about writing music, it's that it's 15% art and 85% craft. Inspiration definitely helps but it's not necessary to write music. After I finally understood that fact, my music level and productivy increased drastically. Thanks, man! I'm glad you like them EDIT: oops, double post. -

About my remix: When I started really listening to Chill Penguin's theme, I noticed a little fanfare thing that I really liked so I used it as the centerpiece for the mix. It comes in about 10 seconds in and is never repeated, which made me sad. The "chorus" is comprised of that fanfare with Chill Penguin's B melody. The biggest place Sting Chameleon is used is the bridge, where I implemented the B theme on top of some jazzy chords. Again, probably not as much Sting Chameleon implemented as you guys are probably looking for but he definitely has a presence through a majority of the piece. I'm noticing how much more fun it is to cleverly insert references to the theme instead of creating a new remix based off it each time. Putting the same melody in the lead gets old after a while. I won't tell you exactly where the little A theme motive is because I think it would be kind of fun to make a game out of it and try to find all the different places it shows up. Hint: It's in the bassline, lead synth (probably multiple times), and in background accompanying sounds at different parts (as far as I can remember. There's probably more). Enjoy! I plan on doing the same thing -

I managed to miraculously get much more of a finished product than I had hoped in the time I spent making this. Definitely not my best work by any means but I guess I deserve that for procrastinating Rendering the final product and sending to Darke soon. Good luck, Senior NutS! Yaaaaay, procrastination! -

Oh my GOD, this is incredible. I seriously switched between auto-target and natural targeting like 10 times before accidentally discovering how to "play the right way". Although now I'm stuck EDIT: Totally figured it out. -

Yeah, I guess I just got used to it, which is never a good thing. It probably would have stuck out quite a bit more if I had slept on it and could have fixed it but no time There's no bitcrushing in the track. Only a kick, snare, and some cymbal/hat. You may be mistaking the cymbal/hat for bitcrushed drums. After relistening, it does sound a bit odd. Nothing a little production work won't fix. -

Okay I got home from GDC a day early so I have a little less than a day to make this thing (because I have something I have to do tonight) so LET'S GET STARTED LET'S DO THIS THING EDIT: Okay seriously, what's up with that random-ass plagal cadence in Toxic Seahorse's theme? EDIT 2: About four hours of work later, I'm "done" with my entry since I'll have no more time to work on it. Decided I was sick of minor. Also decided I'm not a big fan of the improvised nature of Toxic Seahorse either. But At Least I Made Something. -
Oh my god, you named a Pokemon fhqwgads. That. Is. Awesome.

I hate to say this because of all the drops we've had, but I'm going to have very limited time (if any) to put something together this week. I'll be in Austin, TX for GDC Online from tomorrow until Saturday. Good luck to everyone though! I'll try my best to get make something. Gario - You put up quite a fight with that remix. I love it -

The whole integration of Sting Chameleon is more symbolic than literal. The E. Piano is representative of SC and the Synth lead is Blaze Heatnix. It starts out as just a BH remix but SC gradually "infiltrates" the BH theme hence the "INTRUDER DETECTED" followed immediately by E. Piano solo off of the SC theme (with the intro BH motif underneath, representing the presence of BH (danger)) and the title "Stealth Chameleon". I guess it's not really implemented in a traditional sense but I can assure you, quite a bit of thought went into the implementation of both themes. -

Yes, we've met a few times, actually. I ran into you once at this past MAG on the vendor floor. First time I met you was at the OneUps panel I think...three years ago now? My girlfriend and I met up and talked with you guys a bit afterwards. We go to school in the town Tim grew up in. It totally is! You're the second person to catch the reference now -

Sent mine to Darke a while ago. Turns out I'm actually incredibly satisfied with it. Sexy groove and wicked E. Piano solo. It's kind of thematic in a way. E. Piano representing Sting Chameleon and Synth lead representing Blaze Heatnix (and co.). Starts out as just a Blaze Heatnix remix and Sting Chameleon slowly sneaks his way in until it's mostly SC. I kind of have this imagery of SC infiltrating the BH base and sneaking around until the climax of the piece in which he assassinates BH and makes his grand escape fighting his way through the many loyal minions with an air of badassery. -

I'm not really feeling this one as much as the last round but I'll still have something. I didn't like Blaze Heatnix's theme so I chilled it the fuck out. A lot. -

I was thinking the same thing. There's a lot less forum activity. As for the voting, I remember half of the votes came in on the last day so I'm not surprised there.
