  1. Strawberry Lemonaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaade!

Also, is it just me, or do I look like a blind man in the second photo? Seriously, that's the impression I get from it, especially since you caught me when I was not directly facing the camera at that second. :-P

Oh yeah I was going to post that recipe! Also, I didn't notice it until you pointed it out, but sunglasses + cane-looking golf club totally = blind man 8O

So onto the recipe, for all of OCR to enjoy:

    Sparkling Strawberry Lemonade

    3 cups water

3/8 cup brown sugar (or regular sugar? never tried it, it might work too)

    3/8 cup strawberry syrup

    handful of strawberries

    4 medium sized lemons

1 8 oz. bottle of club soda - keep this refrigerated

    Some notes about this recipe:

    - The strawberry syrup I use is Torani strawberry syrup, it's the kind of syrup they have at cafes and they add it to club soda to make italian sodas, not the kind of syrup you'd pour on pancakes. It's not that easy to find, I haven't ever seen the strawberry flavor in any grocery store, but I got mine at World Market.

    - I prefer my lemonade a little on the tart side. If you like yours sweeter, you can increase the sugar and strawberry syrup to 1/2 cup each instead.

    1. Add the brown sugar and strawberry syrup to the water in a saucepan. Heat it up until it boils, then you can remove it from the heat and let it cool. I do this to dissolve the sugar really well into the water so it's nice and smooth and even. But don't let it heat too long because you don't want too much liquid to evaporate.

    2. Juice the lemons with a citrus juicer. Each lemon should yield roughly one tablespoon of juice. You can measure the liquid to make sure you have the right number of lemons since lemons may vary in size. Chop up the strawberries into very small pieces.

    3. When the liquid is cool, you can add the lemon juice and strawberries to it. Mix it well. I like to let everything sit together in the fridge for a few hours to let all the flavors mix.

    4. Right before serving, add the club soda. This is what makes it sparkling, so don't add it too far in advance because then it will lose its fizz. If you don't have club soda or fizzy lemonade is not your thing, you could skip it and do 4 cups of water instead. But personally I think the sparkling variety is awesome and adds something special to the lemonade. Plus if you have both the strawberry syrup and club soda on hand, you can make strawberry Italian sodas! (1 shot (2 oz.) of syrup for one 8 oz. or 10 oz. bottle of club soda.)

  2. Hmmm... I'm thinking about entering this. (Because I don't have enough to do between FBRC, project tracks, and everything else in life :banghead: ) When I met HalcyonSpirit in person, he mentioned the writing competition, and I remembered that I've been thinking about doing it for quite some time. I have something that I've been planning on writing for a very long time, and it's not poetry or a short story, so this would be the perfect category for it. If anybody can make any sense of it. :-o

  3. I just wanted to say I had a great time with everybody yesterday! Thanks djp for hosting the BBQ and everyone for joining us. We got to do a lot of awesome things: cricket, frisbee, mini-golf, sit around in the shade and just chat while listening to remixes, rockband, time's up, and of course eat way too much delicious food. I hope to have more of these in the future and that more people will be able to join us for future ones ^_^

I'll post some pics later, and the strawberry lemonade recipe since at least a couple of people were asking me about that.

  4. Actually, I went ahead and grabbed paper plates and plastic cups while I was at the store too. (about 100 of each)

For chips, I forgot who all was coming, so I just grabbed three 13.5oz bags of Giant-ripoff restaurant style Tostitos, two 12oz bags of Doritos (one nacho cheese, one cool ranch), two 11oz. classic Lays, one 16oz classic Utz, one 10.5oz harvest cheddar Sun Chips, and three bottles of Tostitos dip (two chunky salsa, one cheese). I better not hear any complaints about lack of variety. XD

(it's gonna be a trial not to tear into any of this tonight since it's just sitting beside me on my bedroom floor, looking delicious and what not)

EDIT: Hey Vinnie, how many people do you and Amy have with you? I'm driving by myself, so I was considering hitting you guys up on that "go to your house ahead of time to carpool" deal.

    Yay awesome, thank you ^_^

So far it looks like just Kizyr and Jenner riding with us, but even if we had more than 5 people, Vinnie and I could each take our cars so that we can get people in for free. So Arrow, I'll PM or FB you our address, and anybody else wanting to carpool, let us know in this thread and we can hook you up! :<

  5. Since I have no good musical background, I feel ill equipped to do good reviews and I tend to be very crititcal.

I don't think a person needs to know a lot about music in order to post a review, you can just say what the remix made you feel or that you enjoyed it, I think that should be enough.

    BTW, nice thread :nicework:

  6. How about this: we stop by your place beforehand and leave the bucket of corn there (literally--they roast better if you leave the ears in water for many hours to soak). Room temp should be fine--they don't need to be refrigerated, I'm just worried about them sitting in 90° heat in my trunk.

That ok? Y/N? I mostly don't want to saddle all the supplies on you guys.

If necessary, we can help with the carpooling as well if anyone else is meeting up over there. KF

EDIT: By the way, I'm still totally serious about trying to get a cricket game going. I spent forever (...ok, 15 minutes) putting together some wickets out of PVC pipe.

Sure, that's fine. Actually I considered suggesting that myself, but I thought that might be out of your way to come all the way out to Fairfax then go to Burke. But if you're cool with that, then that sounds like a good plan.

I've never played cricket before and I don't know much about it besides what I saw in Alice in Wonderland as a kid. But you seem very excited about it, so I'm willing to give it a try .) Personally I'd be way excited if we got a game of ultimate frisbee going, but we may not have enough people for that. Oh well, we'll bring our frisbee anyway.

  7. If we're gonna roast some corn (which is delicious if you haven't done that before, and a good alternative to meat) then I could bring that with me. Not sure how it'd fare in the trunk of my car if it's hot that day, though. KF

If you're concerned about keeping things cold, then Vinnie and I could bring corn and other perishables because we can just leave it in our fridge and pick it up on the way to djp's which is like 5 minutes from us. We would probably plan on bringing veggie burgers too. So if you'd prefer, you could bring non-perishable stuff, like I don't know, plates, napkins, utensils, soda, etc.

BTW great idea about bringing the corn. I love grilled corn!!

  8. I may not be participating in this one...

My remix is on the panel right now. I think if it passes, I want to make a music video for it. I really had my heart set on that remix since obviously I have some investment in the story of the song already. If it does pass, it's highly unlikely to be posted by the August deadline for this challenge, so I would probably just wait until the next challenge to enter it (though I guess that would mean sitting on it for months and not showing it to anybody... hmm). Anyway that was my thinking.

Yes, I could do a different video now and do the one for my remix later, but I don't know, I just had my heart set on that one. I had a lot of other ideas, but nothing that really screamed out to me and inspired me... that would also be feasible given my means. I have tons of ideas for totally impractical videos .)

  9. The cookout is a really nice idea. If we want to do a weekday, my personal preference would be the Monday or Tuesday because Vinnie and I will not be around after that ^_^;

I am vegan, or maybe I should say "vegetarian but vegan greatly preferred when possible and not horribly inconvenient". So my preference for veggie burgers would be vegan kind .) Thank you for offering your place for this Jade and blind, it sounds like it will be a great time .D

  10. Aww, I feel lame that I missed the deadline for submitting a source (I spent too much time waffling). But I'm still excited to remix my track. ProjectSpam, I'll do my best to come up with something cool. I've definitely decided on either metal, or trance, or solo piano... OK OK I have no idea what genre it will be. ^_^; It will be a surprise!

  11. Posting this here because Doubles' Dash doesn't have its own thread.

    I spent some time this weekend touching up the production on Stevo's + my entry from last Friday. (updated version) I guess it doesn't sound drastically different than what we ended up submitting, but it makes the perfectionist in me feel better that I did the things I ran out of time to do during the compo. ^_^;

BTW ppl if you didn't check out the entries from the last Doubles Dash (in j64's link in the previous post), you should, we had a lot of awesome entries!

  12. Could you record-arm the track but also just mute it? Or maybe route the track to nowhere or to some outputs on your audio interface (if it has more than two) that aren't being used?

Ahh, brilliant. I was going to say that I had already tried turning down the vol all the way on the track in the mixer that is recording, but that doesn't work because then that track doesn't record. But I thought before I complain that this suggestion doesn't work, I should try out the other things you said. So I searched FL's help to see how I could route the track another way, and found this helpful piece of advice: If it is necessary to prevent audio reaching your speakers, deselect the send to Master. This works perfectly, I don't hear the processed audio, but I can still hear what I am singing/playing into the mic using the direct input as Jimmy described in his post. Thank you Kanthos! ^_^

So I believe that solves one of my 2 major issues with recording in FL! Now if I could get the waveform to display as it's recording, I would be a very happy person.
