  1. Heck YESH! This is probably my favorite song off of the VotL project--beating a couple of bLiNd's songs out by a hair, but still a win is a win. And this song is an EPIC WIN of a song--amazing beat work, amazing effects, amazing arrangement...have I said amazing enough times now? Seriously, this is one flawless song--and I've reached this conclusion over several months of listening to the project. Amazing job you guys, Intense Color and NSTATPL are probably both in my top-ten OCR songs.

  2. Hmm, well I've always loved music. Listened to it all the time as a little kid, and I was alway playing around on either my family's old Yamaha...I wanna say it was a TSR7? No idea, heh. And then of course my aunt's DX7 too.

When I was 8 years old, my parents had me start taking violin lessons...I hated 'em, but they definitely gave me a great ear-training foundation. Actually, too good of an ear-training foundation since I never sight-read music. Which in turn has hurt my piano playing (started at age 13) a lot. I quit violin at 13 years old to focus on piano lessons, and informally on drums. [channels Yoda] Self-taught on drums I am! [/channels Yoda]

I found computer-based mixing when I was 15, when my piano teacher showed me Acid Music Studio 6. Signed up for ACIDplanet.com, and found out about FL Studio, and I've basically gone from there. Especially with the help of Computer Music Magazine for a little while, and now I'm 17 years old and a month away from starting audio engineering school at the Conservatory for Recording Arts and Sciences here in Arizona.

OCR has really helped my evolution as a producer, since there are so many diverse genres represented here! I think I first found out about OCR via an interview with Binster in...I wanna say CM? Dunno.

    Anyways there ya go.

  3. Congrats Rexy! Production values always win, it seems :nicework: well plus having a well-arranged song doesn't hurt at all lol.

Honestly I usually pay a LOT more attention to both my arrangement and my production, but what can you do in six hours? At least when you're used to spending more like a couple weeks on a mix, lol.

This was a really fun PRC (only my second one but hey it's all cool), I'm looking forward to participating in more!

  4. "Sixto," "zircon," "Pendulum," and "surf rock" all had me expecting something spectacular, and whaddya know--the buzzwords came through! Very obviously influenced by Pendulum, but very zircon-ish too. Sixto's guitars are excellent as usual. It's rare I can find a song that I can't just nitpick at, but this song would probably be one of those "perfect-in-my-opinion" songs. Excellent job, this has gone straight onto my Juke.

  5. Something I've found very true over the years is after you've finished mixing your track, let it sit for at least a day. A few days is best. That way your ears have time to rest and freshen up, and the excitement of creating the track is at least somewhat past. After a few days, go back and listen to the render of your track, making notes of what needs to be fixed and there WILL be stuff. Then, go back and fix it. This process could go on indefinitely, so be judicious about it (hope that's the right use of that word, lol). Also useful during this process is posting it somewhere like the WIP forums here or just somewhere where you'll get lots of feedback on it. Revise it once or twice, then call it good and move on to the next thing.

    Hope that made sense.

  6. I've not heard the original (my gaming scope being very sadly limited), but from a musical/production point of view this is probably my favorite song I've heard from McVaffe. Even though I'm an OCR newbie still on the forums at least, I've listened to...geez, I don't know. TONS of remixes from here! McVaffe has been hit-and-miss for me, but there have been some gems. This, I think, marks the start of a new level of quality from him, eh wot? The four-year layoff gave a lot of time for maturity and it REALLY shows. Great work, an instant favorite.

  7. I get a lot of my DnB fix by listening to podcasts--DJ Marmix and the Digital Soundboard podcasts, both found on iTunes, are great.

EDIT: Oh, and do yourself a favor by checking out the Drum'N'Bass Arena podcast with D.Kay and his presentation of his album. Best jazzstep EVAR.

  8. Alright! Any more comments before I make the final revision? As far as the length goes, this is about as short a track as I can possibly make. I'm used to making 6-9 minute tracks! 8)

By the way, I REALLY appreciate all the comments given. I've been able to take this track a lot further than I would originally have taken it. Thanks so much for all your help, WIPers!
