  1. Here I have posted some early production screens from the animated short I am putting together for a future comic con.

I will need music contributions and voice actors...which I will audition by having you record random passages...

The music in this video is an original arrangement...and the screens have been grabbed directly from the animations I already have. No post production/special effects/etc/ has been applied...and I assure you that...it's not just Master chief walking around in the city...

The quality of these screens is lower than the quality of the final animated film will be.

If you are interested...just let me know...

The first link was bad link...this one will work for sure...

  2. The reason that you are having a hard time having the source...at least the source "unforgotten" from the Halo Menu...is because on the original game it was a very soft and inspired passage, and here...it is very powerful and driving...

Original Unforgotten can be heard here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UftDL-TF_6A

My reworked version of this song...starts at 4:34 and continues through 6:04

http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=224 - I have also tweaked the melody with harmonies and rythm...

"OVERCLOCKED" implies pushing to the limits...I'm not trying to copy halo...I'm trying to expand upon it...

I'm no fan of voice clips in music, so you get no points from me for the intro. It does sneak up on you, the music, so i guess it's a successful intro. Not sure how liked it'll be. Same with the later voice clips.

Yeah, you could give the drums a little more punch. Those pretty clear tom-like drums feel a bit weak. Might also be too panned.

I'm wondering if this is too liberal. It certainly sounds like Halo all the time, but most of the time I can't recognize any source.

I'm wondering what this is made of, what's in it, since I can mostly just hear guitar+drums. Feels pretty empty like that. I don't find it dynamically interesting either, the changes are pretty slow and the drums make it all just sounds like variations on the same dynamic level. More variation in the drums should solve that.

Fading out makes the whole thing sound incomplete. Not really because of it being faded out, but rather because there was no clear high point to fade from. It steps down one step from the bulk of the track, stays on that level, and then fades. Feels like it doesn't have an interesting enough dynamic structure. For that high point, you might need more than just some variations on the drum patterns.

Nicely put together, it's long and ambitious, tho perhaps a little too much so. It also suffers a bit from repetition, perhaps you could cut some length to make it more compact. In any case, good luck with it.

  3. I used bits and pieces of it actually and tied it together with guitar harmonies written on top of the announcement trailer music...

Great tune, this. One little nibble though; it sounded like you used the actual tune itself (the one from the announcement trailer?) in the part where it enters "Unforgotten". I don't like the idea of that, but it did sound good here!
  4. Halo - Dawn of Ages

I'm running a chorus quite hot with over driven lead and rythm guitars and very punchy low end toms...

I'm a complete newb to audio engineering and am looking for good advice on compression settings both for the entire track as well as each individual track...

should I lay it on thick...or keep the dynamics...?

The track i'm working on can be heard here...

I'm looking for compression advice for the chorus starting at 1:32...

  5. Thanks for the heads up...I think i'm going to use it as my submission for part 1 of this two part Halo Remix...the second is a much softer cleaner take on the music.

It was the second mix I had playing for an hour. I listened to the first one a couple times before that though too.

I really hope this gets approved when you submit it... I'm still listening to it :D

  7. I've got a new mix available if you are interested... http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=185

First off, I really like your playing style and tone - most of the guitarists I hear want that in-your-face rock sound, but you go with a more chill, crunchy approach. It's a refreshing change, at least for me.

That said, this mix is shaping up nicely - your drums sound OK for the most part (I really like the loop that comes in at 1:37), but there is a really annoying hi-hat loop that is far too piercing for what it does in the mix. It begins at the start of the song and repeats throughout the entire arrangement... I would turn it down and eq it, cause it really does stick out like a sore thumb.

Not sure about the vocals. They work, but they add a sort of "cheese" factor that I'm not sure the song needs. It's your call, though. And I do like the sampled game music - you integrated it very well.

One thing I think you need more of is the actual theme - your arrangement is awesome, but the judges may think it is too liberal. Just a friendly heads up - I've had several mixes rejected for that reason.

Also, is the fade out the true ending? You have too much of a buildup there to just fade out - we need some resolution.

I really like where this is going - definitely looking forward to the next update!
