  1. Hey all, I just recently wrote a track for Blizzard's original song contest.. only to see that residents of my state (Connecticut) can't participate in the contest. So I thought I'd post it here since it's already finished to see if I could get some feedback. You can listen here: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10952835
  2. Hello everyone, I just finished some Star Trek style music and thought I'd put it out there for feedback/impressions- you can listen to it here: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10872314 There are 3 other tracks that go with this, however this is the Finale containing some bits from all of them so for the sake of brevity thought I'd just link to the last part. Feedback appreciated!
  3. Hi all, I know I like to make tracks that are longer and start soft, making you wait for the big moments.. which doesn't always work on the internet where you get 5 seconds to pull a listener in before they get bored and click to something else, so I thought I'd make a track that started with a bang and kept it up (most of the time). I was thinking of a scene on the high seas, though there is a part in the middle where it gets pretty tranquil and ambient where I was seeing a night sky, which I suppose you can see pretty well from the ocean without all the light pollution. Anyway, feedback appreciated! http://jaredcowing.com/crestrunner.mp3
  4. Well, I just got a copy of Vienna Special Edition, and I'm just exploring it now and getting used to the different layout. To start I thought I'd give it a test drive, so here's a somewhat random smattering of styles in a shorter track, though a battle feel seems to prevail through most of it. I was really happy with how it sounded and thought I'd try something I'd never have been able to pull off with Garritan, so near the very end at 3:50 I threw in some big Hollywood-orchestra hits, and I'm very happy with how it came out! I think there's alot of cool sounds I can get out of this program, once I have a better feel for it. http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/419382 Feedback always appreciated!!
  5. Just an amendment- I've also uploaded the track to youtube with a little stop motion video, so you can find it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSKVcuU-EEQ
  6. Hi all, I've just put up a theme I put together for an independent game coming soon. Can anyone guess what the game might be about? Also, there are some hidden references in there to a much older game title, anyone think they can guess it? Hint: it's in the timpani/strings at 1:17-1:20 and in the very first 10 seconds. I'll post more info on the game as the website goes up and gameplay footage comes out. Feedback always appreciated! http://www.jaredcowing.com/title1.mp3
  7. Hi all, I recently put up a new track and thought I'd share it here to see if I could get any impressions. It came from playing a ton of Fable II a few weeks ago, which put alot of bright fantasy imagery in my mind that I had to get out of my system. I imagined an explorer making his home in an uncharted land in the chilly north. Feedback/impressions are always welcome. http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/396537
  8. Hi all, I've posted music here before but I thought I'd post an introduction as I have a website now that I can point people to. My name is Jared, I'm a composer who loves video game music and never passes up an opportunity to write some! I currently attend graduate classes while doing music/sound editing on the side, always looking for new people to talk to about game music. You can check out my website here: www.jaredcowing.com Any feedback on the website (it's new so there are some kinks to work out!) and on the music itself would be much appreciated! I check this site periodically and can also be reached by email at JaredCowing@gmail.com By the way, is everyone aware of the video games live concert coming up on PBS sometime in July? My good friend will be in it as Flute Link, be sure to check it out, it sounds like it will be awesome!
  9. Thanks for the impressions, it really helps me gauge how well the piece works for people/how well it fits the style I tried to write it in! The piece (or a portion of it) has been moved to my new site which I just put up, you can hear it under 'Puzzle' at www.jaredcowing.com along with many many other clips! Feedback on the music and the site itself would be much appreciated, thanks!
  10. Hi everyone, hope your new years went well! I have a new original I recently wrote, it's written in a puzzle-game sort of style, pretty tense in many places like you're racing against a clock while trying to get all the pieces in a row or whatever the objective is. Feedback is always very much appreciated, I hope you like it! http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/299071
  11. Hello again to all on this board, I just recently finished a new track and thought I'd share it here since I've gotten some good feedback from here. Here's my description as posted on newgrounds: "Far to the west, nestled in a high and chilly mountain, a young soul summits the peak to look out at the ocean beyond. All along the horizon are scattered many strange and foreign islands filled with mysterious and exotic cultures. He resolves that today will be the day that he sets out, his new skiff now finished and seaworthy. Down to the shore he eagerly bounds and then out he sets, the wind to his back and many tales ahead to be told under the warm sun and an ever clear blue sky..." Feedback always appreciated! Here's the link: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/280700
  12. Thanks, all very good advice, especially with the EQ, that is something I need to work on. Thanks for listening!
  13. Hi all, I recently finished a new 6 minute track which spans quite a few styles and tempi in several sections, from jazz to pop to ambient, I imagine a character exploring a city, each street bringing a new feel and color. I thought I'd share the link on this board and see if I can get anyone's feedback on exactly what genre this might fit under. Feedback always welcome! http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/275032
  14. Here's another original I just did up, feedback always appreciated! http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/259750
  15. Here's a new original I recently completed, it very much sounds like game trailer music so I thought I'd post it here. Starts slow and reverent then picks up and grows before dying away again. Feedback much appreciated! http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/250500
