  1. Duane and Brando NSFW (if you're blasting it on your speakers). I love these guys. They do remixes (but for-profit, and with rap). And what they did (at least musically) with Dark Link is very nice.
  2. Lol. That damn owl. Speaking of which, I haven't seen this theme being remixed. Is it because it brings up horrible memories of his speeches? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8R0biN_OWk
  3. In my opinion, the best song from the hardest boss battle: I would LOVE to play around with this track myself, but I can't find sheet music or a midi for it anywhere plus, I dunno if I can do it justice. So if anyone would listen to it and try and see if they can play around with it (if you're talented enough to get the parts down by ear, that's awesome), that'd be great. But if you just listen to it, that'd be nice, too haha P.S. another one from that game that would be great to see remixed would be:
  4. Source: And I'm playing around with a jazz kit... It's... A little shaky so I'll try what you're saying (a chill cymbal-snare-bass combo). And I was surprised when I heard this guitar (it's a preloaded guitar patch) and... I actually love the tone. But in addition to the drums, I'm still going to have to pan things around (I was thinking guitar to the left a little, lead piano to the right, bass/harp/drums/everything else in the middle). Do you have any tips (aside from Zircon's sticky) on mastering and production?
  5. This does seem badass, and I get what you're saying (I'm picturing the Matrix shoot-em-up scene right after Neo passes his bag through the metal detector, and switching to a Jason Statham car chase). I'm not going to be the one who points out what's wrong in here (if anything), so I'll just point out what I like. For one, I really love the instruments you used (the guitar, drums, bass, and those erratic synth notes (around 1:16 - I don't know if that's where they start, that's just a good point of reference). Did you used downloaded soundfonts, or were they preloaded with your software (or did you go legit and actually record some/all)? If they were downloaded... Where'd you get em from? If I do run into the time, I'll get a video clip of an action scene and put this to it (like so many other videos on YouTube [example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYHYx7YNC-w]). But overall, I really liked that track, and I look forward to hearing the rest of your project if you go through with it.
  6. Okay, so I'll have to mess around with the panning and distributing parts evenly so they don't "fight" each other. A little trick for all of you - I did not put any drums in here. I just put an instrument in there (a soft bass + a ride cymbal) for rhythm. I'll put some [relatively] gentle drums in there later. This is obviously nowhere NEAR OCR quality (production, originality, instrument arrangements, etc). This is just one of many songs I'm playing around with to see what goes with what. I'm trying to teach myself all these things that make music, such as the veterans' OCR submissions, sound amazing. I've made several pancakes, enough for them to actually begin to taste like pancakes, but not pantheon, pancakes-of-the-gods-quality pancakes (if we're going with Rozovian's metaphor). But thank you, to EVERYONE. Also, the vets aren't making you look stupid, NE. I think I'm the glutton for punishment here haha
  7. I always loved this song when I was playing this game (Top Gear, SNES). It felt so badass. Now... It feels a little calmer in this arrangement. But it's relatively conservative... Thoughts?
  8. No, I know it's not really possible (unless you're on Malmsteen's level) to do those disgustingly fast, individually-picked chromatic runs. If I do actually remix this, I will go for that RodGab feel (I love them). But all these 3 songs were were just projects to test out reverb/mastering. It seems I need better soundfonts. Can anyone suggest any good acoustic/electric samples, please?
  9. I was about to ask for you to elaborate on that, but I saw your signature. But I get what you're saying, I need to change the note length and the attacks and the volumes of the notes and give it a human feel. How do you do that in Reason 4? How do you do slurred notes?
  10. So I've been messing around with reverb a bit and I put together several songs (very conservative, but they're nice, IMO). Playing Tetris For The Queen: a medley of Tetris songs played in an acoustic setting (it had a classical feel, IMO). All Mine: the Donkey Kong Country 2 mine BGM (not the Portishead song) No Pokemon, Only Guitars: a dual-guitar duel of the Trainer Battle (I should've put the Trainer Defeat music at the end, but... eh). So I may or may not put original content into these songs, but for now, they're just something to play around with while I'm trying to learn how to make my songs feel more "lifelike". Thoughts (on reverb, mastering, panning, all that stuff, not "oh, this isn't a remix, it's too original", or "it's too repetitive", please)?
  11. All right, I revamped it a lot. Changed the guitar, because, yeah, that was very out of place Added reverb (seems a little [too] grandiose... But at least it's better than it was before [iMO]) Changed that solo for the guitar Messed around with the intro and a bit of the end. Changed that panned too-good-to-be-true thing Thar ye go.
  12. 1. See, I just dove right into this. Sound reinforcement... Would you please elaborate? 2. Drums, like percussion creating a rhythm, or an actual drumkit [creating a rhythm]? 3. True, that was relatively abrupt. 4. No, it's all right. If it's not too much trouble, a tutorial of "sound, EQ, effects, etc." would do WONDERS.
  13. "Oh, come on, now you're just spamming the forum." Nah. I forgot to post this one up - and to take the other one, the "dream" one - down. But this is, as you can probably tell, a Windmill Hut remix. Only now, it's mainly strings - cello, violin, harp, and guitars. And a piano. So, what do you think? It begins with original content, then progresses into the well-known theme and follows up and out. What do you think?
  14. "Hey, DJSoto13, why are you rushing out all these 'remixes'? They're pretty bare, yet you keep moving on." Eh. When I hit a creative wall on one song, I save it and move on to another song. After slowing down while working on the Orchestral Link to the Past one, I threw this together - a pretty conservative, yet nice-sounding (in my opinion) version of Gerudo Valley (Ocarina of Time). Too conservative for your tastes? I know it's not balanced THAT well (fades in/out, mastering, etc), I KNOW. This is just a rough draft.
  15. The reason this is called what it is is because this is something I threw together relatively quickly. After reviewing my finished product, it bears a striking resemblance (at least in my opinion) to this: Now, I wouldn't call it a remix... But here's something like "Hearts". http://tindeck.com/listen/oflz The reason I marked it finished is because it's a short sort of "single" version. I could expand it, put some more breaks, melodies, or something else into it, but... What's here is here. Enjoy. P.S. - I thought about naming it with a synonym of hearts (like Corazones) but that would probably be misleading (you'd expect a Spanish sort of feel to it, huh?) I should stop rambling.
  16. So I put together a different take on it (mostly string based). It's "Strings of the Windmill" (see Tindeck banner in my signature). Obviously, it's very rough, but what do you think? ALSO - how can I delete old threads and "change" them from WIP-Finished-ModReview? Thanks
  17. Yeah, as I thought, it's still pretty rough (even though there's been a WIP and Finished thread on this already). And the dream thing - it was what came to me when I uploaded it to Tindeck (it was a little better of a title than "DJSoto13 - Song of Storms"). I don't know where I'd take this - should I take the guitars out and make it a more orchestral-themed one? Maybe keep the guitars in for a rhythm part, but switch to orchestral percussion... Anyways thanks for your advice, guys
  18. Hello, OCRemix Mod(s)! I'm DJSoto13 and this is my first attempt at remixing a song. What I've prepared is an ethereal-themed take on Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's "Windmill Hut" (a.k.a. the Song of Storms). The reason I call it a dream is because that's what it reminded me of - the panning audio, the spacey piano, the toybox-like instrument - and although it does contrast with the other part of the song - the drums and the guitars - it still seems like spending a night dreaming in the Kakariko windmill. But I ramble. Hopefully I get some helpful advice from you, and happy listening! P.S. - can you help me with mastering? I feel a little uneasy about the whole thing (it might be evident in the song), but I'm trying to get a more professional, open, and warm sound. Thanks Source: Remix: http://tindeck.com/listen/xbxv
  19. Right, so I've revised it to the point where there is some original content in there, the transitions are a little more fluid, the sounds are more balanced (although I'm still trying to get a more "live", concert-hall feel (suggestions for this?), but overall, it's made some progress.
  20. So... I think this is pretty evolved. Last thoughts? Oh, and how do I "change" my thread from WIP-Finished-Mod Review? Do I just create a new thread, or... What? Too lazy, didn't read: my finished song is in my signature. I think you can figure out which one it is lol and if you couldn't tell the source song... Song of Storms from Ocarina of Time.
  21. That's beautiful, even if it is a WIP I've been wondering why there aren't that many Pokemon remixes... ANYWAY, the arrangement is really well done - the intro is touching, then it dips down and back up into what could be a powerful, fiery piano number (what I'd do - might just be my style speaking - I'd build intensity with that section, then drop back down into a reprise of the beginning. But that's just me). ANYWAY, the S.S. Anne theme is a really overlooked piece of music (in my opinion), and I look forward to seeing how this turns out
  22. UJS, uh... check your volume settings? I've played it in Reason, WMP, and Tindeck, and it's all good for me. And thanks. But this is just the basic structure of it, that's why I looped the themes twice, abruptly transitioned, and stayed close to the source. I'll add original stuff and more layers later, I just wanted to post it and see what people thought. I originally had the dark world dungeon theme in there, but... It felt out of place
  23. This is a Link To The Past orchestral "journey" I threw together. This has the Dark World Overworld theme, the Death Mountain theme, the Ganon theme, and the Boss Defeat-Crystal Get theme. My 2nd attempt at remixing... What do you think? Too abrupt, too long, too... what? Link is in my sig.
  24. Yeah, that's kind of what I was worried about. I was also worried about that second distorted guitar solo (right before the dual-guitar main melody reprise at the end) where the other guitar comes in for a bar or two... but thanks
  25. OKAY. I believe I took care of the volume issue. I definitely got rid of the popping (except for one damn pop early on). But I changed the beginning and ends a little bit (made it into a sort of amateur canon), and extended the solos at the end. Do you think it's too much? I think so at one point during the overdrive guitar solo, but... What do you think of the 4th (and hopefully final) version?
