  1. Hello! I've made this tonight, and although it's not a remix but just a quartet/orchestral cover, I thought I would share it here with the very few souls who know of this amazing Genesis/MegaDrive game, "Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun". My cover: http://xavierdang.com/dump2011/Xavier_mv_Dang_-_D&DWoTES_-_City_Theme_(cover).mp3 The original track:
  2. Version 0.3 (03/16) · things that have changed since 0.2: ··· added new part and embellished previous ending part (still not finished) ··· added siney synth and voice staccatos as well as middle-eastern strings ··· enhanced some minor mixing/production aspects · things to add/improve: ··· more use of the stereo field (arpeggios/pad work/etc) (from SnappleMan) ··· might look into the smoother bass path again (from FunkyEntropy) ··· strings need to stand out more, might change the library for the higher string melody. ··· need to variate the percussion more in the second run, it is using the same sequence than the first part ··· start building either a climax or relaxation part to slowly reach the ending, there are still a few sections of the original tune i can exploit anyway. Thanks for listening and please let me know what you think/what coul dbe changed.
  3. Thank you! I've been in love with this theme forever, I have endless amounts of WIPs in all kinds of styles for this track but nothing ever gets done. I think I'm at where I want to be with this one though and I have good ideas for what to add next Let's hope they transform into reality ^^ Merci beaucoup, j'adore ces 2 bandes-sons donc c'est un beau compliment. Sinon le morceau est loin d'être fini, au niveau de la durée finale j'espère avoir au moins le double et la fin est vide/abrupte sur ce mp3 car c'est encore en chantier pour l'instant Thanks! The glitch is happening because I rendered the WAV file when some bitcrushed/retriggered things were still being played in the back I think, it'll be an easy fix Et oui en effet ^^
  4. Version 0.2 notes: · I actually have another version in which I followed FunkyEntropy's advice on having a smoother bass with longer attack, but for some reason doing that absolutely screwed up the mixing/production aspect of the track, I'll have to look into it again later but it was definitely an interesting approach as well, sounded radically different. · things that have changed since 0.1: ··· percussion has been varied a bit more. ··· added a bitcrushed drum pattern. ··· some additional bass hits for some transitions · things to add/improve: ··· more use of the stereo field (arpeggios/pad work/etc) (from SnappleMan) ··· might look into the smoother bass path again (from FunkyEntropy) ··· explore more glitch/experimental things, the track flows pretty conventionally right now which makes for a nice mood but things could be spiced up ··· include the rest of the track in a different manner. Thanks for listening and always interested to hear more opinions, this has a long way to go before completion anyway
  5. Aww thanks Darangen! Damn there's a name I haven't seen in ages, glad to see you're around and I hope all is well Funny thing is that now I'm contemplating a Mass Effect 2 remix.. Maybe that's why I haven't submitted in 6 years, I have my musical mind going in too many places and never settling down
  6. Thanks a lot everyone for the many kind replies! FunkyEntropy you make a valid point, I will definitely try to alter the attack/sound of the bass in my next WIP because I'm also unsure if it's the best choice for it. Anyway no new WIP for a couple of days since I have mastering to finish on an OCR project track and also some short clips to make for a TV show Thanks again, will update this fo 'sho!
  7. Hey guys, Always been a fan of this track and I have so many different WIPs/styles for it haha, anyway I have started this tonight, this is just 2 hours of work so I'll call it version 0.1 since it's just a start made in approx. 1h30 but I'm curious to hear if people like the style and mood for this. I will update this thread regularly, and yeah the beat doesn't change for now, I just pasted it all over the place as placeholder Style is ambient/glitch. 8. If you couldn't tell by now I'm obsessed with all things Castlevania. This is another GameBoy Advance demo I had done in 2001 using old GBA rules (4 channels PCM/WAV + 4 channels PSG/GameBoy), except I enhanced and lengthened it today. It's oldskool Castlevania-inspired, as in distinct melodies and arpeggio fun. Hope you enjoy it! http://8bc.org/music/mv/Temperance+(GBA+-+%22Castlevania%22+style)/
  9. Original composition using samples from the games "Super Castlevania IV" & "Dracula X: Rondo of Blood" on the Super NES (© Konami). I've been having great fun lately making game-ish tracks using SPC/SNES samples, I hope you will enjoy it! (please "like" it on 8bc if you happen to have an account there! ) http://8bc.org/music/mv/Belmont%27s+Return+%28SNES+-+%22Castlevania%22+style%29/
  10. Contra III has a fantastic soundtrack and only the masterful would dare trying their hand at arranging it. This is masterful.
  11. Thanks a lot! Hopefully I will have time for a new WIP of this (possibly finished version!) this weekend. Cheers!
  12. Thank you very much! Making faux SNES tunes is a lot of fun, I think I'll make more, if you like retro stuff don't hesitate to listen to my other stuff on that site. Cheers!
  13. This is a composition made in Impulse Tracker using samples and taking inspiration from the game "Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen" (© Enix). Hope you like it! This was made in 2009 and I post produced it a bit just now so that it sounds authentic. http://8bc.org/music/mv/Mercenaries+%28SNES+-+%22Ogre+Battle%22+style%29/
  14. Hello all, I haven't submitted an OCReMiX since 2005 (argh!) so I'm working on several ideas at the moment. One of them is a remix from that particulartheme from Dune, which has one of the best FM soundtracks ever in my opinion. The original can be heard here: The latest WIP is here: http://www.xavierdang.com/dump2010/mv_-_dune_remix_alpha02.mp3 Style is ambient/glitch IDM. It is maybe a bit too conventional right now, so I might edit things already present. Also I have to work on more interesting glitch effect on the drums and reduce the decay on most drum hits that glitch. Anyway feel free to comment and critique, thanks for your time!
  15. Oh the insane nostalgia.. I loved the original track (especially the Genesis version!) and this arrangement/performance is godlike, in a style rarely tackled on the site. Infinite claps to the artists! Easily becoming one of my fav remixes on the website; my only nitpick is that I'd love to hear a longer clavinet (I think?) solo/long & fast run à la Herbie Hancock but otherwise this is perfection
  16. Greetings all! I have recently updated my pro website and thought I'd share one of the new demos for it. ··· http://www.xavierdang.com/promomp3/Xavier_Dang_-_Mecha_Medusa.mp3 This one right here is called "Mecha Medusa", it's a techno track with orchestral elements, kinda reminiscent of the music style found in recent shoot'em'ups (especially Gradius V). The track is an enhanced/finished version of my entry for #thasauce's OneHourCompo094 (finished 1st/24), it is now longer and also features humorous sound design at the beginning... Beware if your speakers volume is loud prior to playing this, as this is mixed rather aggressively (the style begs for it!) Let me know what you think and do not hesitate to check out the other stuff on my website, thanks for your time!
  17. Fun stuff, very nicely done/produced, and the appearance of all those themes was cleverly laid out. KREDITZ!
  18. Thanks a bunch guys! By the way, Hillside is now available for download at my website ( www.xavierdang.com ), as well as all other tracks that were on Kongregate. Geoffrey, I'll definitely keep your offer in mind!
  19. Some of you might be familiar with the Jon Butler Trio, but if you aren't, hopefully these video will make you want to investigate further These are two concert versions of John Butler's track "Ocean", played solo on a 11-string guitar in different moods/techniques/places. The first one feels intimate while the second one is more grandiose, but one thing is sure, both are jaw-dropping I still can't get over the beauty of the track, the quality of both interpretations (and there are many more, he almost never plays the same one live) & the most insane performance & emotion. Hope you'll enjoy them! Watch in High Quality & with high volume! All the best, Xavier
  20. Hello all! I am back once again with a new track, called "Ai no Uta" (愛の歌), which means "Song of Love". This track was composed this month in several small sessions during a relatively complex emotional/sentimental period. I chose to name the track in Japanese, after a few of my "beta" listeners pointed that the mood would work well for a "lovers" theme in an innocent anime of sorts. I thought that was a pretty fit description. So think love, sunny hills, innocence & true happiness! There is no MP3 download yet, but I promise that all music I've released lately will be available for downloading at my upcoming website! (hopefully debuting at the start of August) “Ai no Uta ( 愛の歌 )” : http://www.kongregate.com/collabs/sounds/Xavier_Dang/ai-no-uta?sort=by_rating_this_week The track is on the Kongregate website, and it is free for anyone to listen. However, if you could gently take the time to register and rate it (possibly 5 stars, but that is up to you;), I would definitely appreciate it as I am also engaged in a music contest organized by them, the registering process is fast, it is a spam-free website and all e-mail notifications can be turned off in the account settings. It is also a popular nest of incredibly fun free flash games, so do not hesitate if you like those. Thank you very much for listening/reading & eventually commenting/rating, I will probably post an epic piece this weekend if I can find the strength to compose/produce it in time! P.S.: For those of you who like what I create & have a Facebook account, please feel free to join my fan page over at: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Xavier-mv-Dang/95099072731 I will update this about once or twice a week with new music, video game soundtrack announcements & website release. I'd appreciate your support as well! This second half of the year is going to be very active for me, musically & professionally-wise, I'm giving my all into it!
  21. Hey man You probably can't play it because you don't use the latest flash player or have installed Flash CS meanwhile. It will be available as a download on my website soon, I just keep them non-downloadable for now so that people will visit the site once it's up ;D I just have to fix technical details on it before it goes live though (hopefully before August) If you have Facebook, you can listen to it on my fan page over at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Xavier-mv-Dang/95099072731 Hope you're doing good! Thanks for the interest
  22. Enjoying it so far, good work everyone! "Smiling Hilltop for Four Hands" by Long Dao is fantastic, really enjoyed this one most. Edit: damn "Somewhere to Hide" is incredible too! and Fallen Dragoon! and..! Yeah I'll write a bigger review when I'll be done listening to them all Great stuff!
  23. Hello again all! Here's another demo track that will go on my upcoming website, this one is called "Shamshir Dance". It was designed for a video game setting similar to Prince of Persia and features several BGM situations. The MP3 of this will be available on my brand new website later, which I hope will be released this month (I am so extremely busy that it is hard to finish even though I have the design from my web designer). I think the track is good demo material and so far the response has been positive, but I'll let you be the judge: http://www.kongregate.com/collabs/sounds/Xavier_Dang/shamshir-dance The track is on the Kongregate website, and it is free for anyone to listen. If you vote, please vote before Thursday as the weekly rotation is going to be over soon (aye I posted late for this one). I will be releasing a quiet track for the next rotation, and hopefully I will have something really huge and epic for the final week, but I definitely need to find time for this one! Thanks for reading, and hopefully listening, commenting or rating With love, Xavier
  24. Hello all! I'm really excited to share a new demo with you, called "Hillside", which is a celtic-flavored RPG track, it was composed & produced by yours truly in several days, and I got the help of a live violinist on this one called Jason "Midee" Zaffary, who is popular for some awesome remixes alongside mister Prozax. The MP3 of this will be available on my brand new website later, which I hope will be released this month (I am so extremely busy that it is hard to finish even though I have the design from my web designer). I am particularly happy with this one and I hope that you will like it, I would love to hear your comments. http://www.kongregate.com/collabs/sounds/Xavier_Dang/hillside The track is on the Kongregate website, and it is free for anyone to listen. Thanks for reading, and hopefully listening, commenting or rating With love, Xavier
