Yes, admittedly, it does sound terrible and I didn't really know what I was doing, but it was supposed to sound like those japanese futuristic mech games that overuse orchestra hits, or stuff that you would hear in an anime.
Bro, I WATCH anime. It sounds nothing like that.

Congrats on getting posted! On the actual remix, it's really nice and has a wonderful airy feel to it.
-
I forgot to mention, on the ratometer (value range 0-10) a song must have an average of at least 5 in facet quantity or else technically it does not qualify as facet containing.
...and the award for the most arbitrary rating system goes to!

"Wow, this is an amazing remix. The sound design is flawless, and the production values exceed professional levels. The source is handled beautifully and interpretively and this is an emotional ride that never stops to move you on a spiritual level. But there's no koto. NO."

Video game music can have lyrics. This thread doesn't even make any sense.
-
Also, in the next version, that snare doesn't have nearly enough punch for my tastes. I would look into that while you're revamping the patterns, too.
-
Yes, it clones a pattern and all MIDI data within, assigns it a number n+1, then you can alter that pattern to create a variation on the parent and stick it in the playlist so that you don't have, for example, the same drum loop playing again and again.
I guess if you read what I wrote a certain way it seems like I was suggesting it'll create music for you???
I find it hilarious how you automatically assume that everyone uses FL Studio. Not trying to diss or anything, it just amuses me. For the record, WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT IS AN FL STUDIO FEATURE. That said, it is a good feature, and I find myself using it often. Pattern based music isn't a problem unless you make it a problem. It's very easy to use minor variations and transitions to make things flow more naturally if you're willing to take the time to do so. Every measure doesn't have to be completely unique to make good music.

Someone wanted me to cover Zeal on an IRC channel I go to. A different person wanted a more relaxed song. I combined the two wishes and chopped at my backlog! Not really a remix of a cover, but worth posting anyways!

Daaaawwwww... I saw Tower of Heaven and immediately I thought of.
Dude, you too? I agree with pretty much everything else you said, too. The percussion section feels lacking to me, and I do like some of the chipstuff you have going on, but it's a weird blend from the whole atmospheric stuff and the chipstuff. Cool use of pianos in here!

Tough to say, because there are a lot of things that you want in a VST, but the closer you get to getting everything, the closer you get to the one thing that everyone hates - extreme lag. There's a lot you could want, so a "perfect" vst instrument doesn't really cut it for me.

Quartz Version!
CHANGELIST:
- For a change of pace - EQing!
- Finished the arrangement.
- Lots of small effects(verb/delay/etc)
- Beefed up the percussion(GASP!)
- Increased the bass's low-mids and peeked out into the mids a bit.
- Played with some volumes and stuff.
- For a change of pace - EQing!

This is actually pretty awesome looking, I'll give you that. Also, when I looked over this I read it as "Sci Fi Slash Series". Admittedly, I read too much fanfiction. I'd totally sign on-board, but I'm not nearly talented enough.

First, since I’m brand new to the forums. I’ll introduce myself.
I grew up playing video games as a kid, now that I’m older, I still find myself playing those same games back on the SNES, Genesis, NES and more. I have listened to OC remixes for several years and I have a great appreciation for video game music.
For a long time now I have really wanted to make some of my own remixes of some video game songs. Whenever I get an idea for a remix, I get out my digital camera and sing or beat-box the tune that I want to express. The problem is that I have no idea how to turn those songs recorded on my camera into professional remixes that I can submit to the site.
As far as equipment and instruments goes, I have a decent computer, Sony Vaio Quad Core (1.73 GHz). I have a piano at my house but that’s it. Now at my parent’s house (different house) they have, bass guitar, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, a keyboard and other equipment that I probably don’t know what it is or what it does. I have no formal training on the guitar or piano but I played cello in my school orchestra for 6 years. I have no music programs on my computer.
So basically, I have made some remixes, but they are in a very crude format, me just singing them on tape, only my voice. I want to bring these songs and ideas to life and turn them into high quality remixes that I can try to submit to OC remix. The songs are already there, I can hear them inside my head. I know exactly how I want them to sound but I do not know how to make them. I have tried reading tutorials on the net, but I am a beginner and have no idea where to start. If anyone would be kind enough to offer advice or help me get started I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
For example, here is a song I would like to make a remix for.
Super Mario Kart: Special Ending
Me singing the version of the song that I want to make.
Again thanks.
The single hardest thing musically is turning an idea from your head into reality. It takes a lot of practice. As for actually making professional quality remixes, you'll need better equipment and a DAW to record into if you want to record anything, or if you want to make electronica, a DAW and some synths. It would really help us if you told us what kind of style you're going for in the first-place, though.

I actually listened to the mix before reading all the comments, and from the beginning I was thinking "oh neat, eilios is playing with the frequency filter, he is gonna open it up any minute and the mix is going to kick into full gear." But that moment never came - right now it sounds like all the elements from the intro have highs and mids completely killed. Normally, that kind of sound builds anticipation towards those frequencies being slowly filtered in, but after listening to the mix in its entirety, I don't think that was your intention.
This is actually a really amazing idea that kills two birds with one stone and I totally know how to make this a reality. Thanks for the idea. I'm aware that I need to work on my production, it's a constant effort, and helpful tips like this are what make it a reality! I might do the hi-hat skipping, too.

And while we're at it, let's double post for science!
Jade Version!
CHAGELIST(yeah I know I made that typo and IT'S NOT CHAGING):
-
EVEN MORE EQING
- Added another original chillout section.
- More percussion beefing!
- Chaged my name in this update to "EILIOS, LORD OF THE INFINITE."
Sorry for the really late update, but I've had a busy non-musical creative schedule, what with Unregistered and SD and all of that cool stuff.
-
EVEN MORE EQING
-
The drums don't punch through enough, and the bass is a little bit too repetitive and not enough, though. Rozovian is right about the constant changing of instrumentation for variation. That said, though, compared to my newb mixes, this is a huge step up. You have a lot of potential, keep at it!

Check the site for local retailers. I advise against the boxed copy, though. Download version is cleaner.
-
Tetris Blast.

I love the dynamics on this. The lyrics are nice, and the instrumentation is fantastic. The vocals are overpowered at times. Overall, I can't wait for a later version.
-
Thanks! Speaking of "next version"...
CHAGELIST:
- Beefed up percussion a little.
- Minor changes to synths(added warm short reverb to some synths)
- Added small percussion fills(Not that many, this is house, after all, though)
-
EQs EVERYWHERE
Really, this version focused a lot more on mastering, but it's still a good update!
- Beefed up percussion a little.
-
-
You know all sound in the world is sine waves, right?
True in additive synthesis, not so much in others.
As for the whole "synths aren't beautiful" thing, to each their own. I'm not going to get into the whole "what's real music" debate because to be honest nobody wants this here, but evolving synth pads are absolutely gorgeous to listen to for me.
-
Daft Punk one (there's nothing wrong with using a sample you made yourself.)
The sample was from a song called "Cola Bottle Baby". Daft Punk had no relation to it's creation.
-
Some of you might've gotten an earlier version of this on IRC via ocrwip. Arrangement wise, this probably won't be that different, I just changed some of the synths and mixing of this.
That said, though, here's Jewel of the Night, an electro house remix of Jewel Man's theme.
Emerald Version <--Version 0.5137(Now on box.net!)
Quartz Version. <-- Version 0.5(Actually finished, arrangement wise!)
Jade Version<-- Version 0.49¯(Totally not finished, but close to it!)
Onyx Version<-- Version 0.45(still Unfinished)
Sapphire Version<-- Version 0.4(Unfinished, kinda cuts off...)

I am highly confused by this. Earlier, you said that it was supposed to sound like your mech game or anime. My comment was that I've heard many anime soundtracks and rarely ever does it sound like that.
