  1. ooooh! I love me some JFG! Always wanted to do some myself, but I'm afraid to touch it, since it sounds awesome in its original composition.

Anyway, great job so far. Love it! As far as arrangement goes, I can't tell that you deviated at all from the original, so no comments there. From a first listen, the crescendos between 1:45 and 2:15-ish were kind of awkward and unrealistic. They happened a little too quickly and died back down too much, almost like you tried to give every note an individual crescendo. This is just me, but I would maybe try to make that section a little more of a cohesive-overarching crescendo, with the volume gradually building. Don't take that too far, though- you DO want to give each short phrase a little bit of life, but just smooth it out a little.

Also, not sure what instrument it was (possibly low strings?), but it was pretty quiet in the intro; kind of overshadowed by the brass and percussion. Obviously it wasn't meant to steal the show, but I didn't even notice it until I listened again, and had to strain to hear it.

Otherwise, great stuff so far! I'm sure there are better ears than me to give more constructive feedback, but keep it up!

Thanks for the feedback! I smoothed out the area between 1:45 and 2:15, boosted the low strings, and boosted the high strings in the beginning (call & answer section). I also humanized the snare and raised the volume of 1:28-1:41.

  2. Hey there! Below you will find a reorchestration of the S.S. Anubis theme from the Nintendo 64 video game Jet Force Gemini. As a reorchestration, my version is just meant to show how the original song would have sounded had the composer(s) been able to record a real orchestra. The final version of this song will be part of an album that I'm not ready to unveil just yet.

I'm mainly looking for feedback concerning realism, mixing, EQ, etc., but feedback regarding arrangement is welcome, too. Thank you!

  3. Hey everyone! It's been a good while since I've been active on OCR threads, but I've gotten back into the swing of things and decided to give it another go.

This is a re-upload of an old take on the Corridors of Time theme from Chrono Trigger. I know it's been done again and again, but please have a listen.

A few notes: The last minute or so of the track is just stuff I was writing in an attempt to transition into the Memories of Green theme. The jury is out on if it stays and gets reworked, but I would like your opinion on the first 2:54.

    Thanks again guys!

I really like it! So much so that I downloaded it. A different take on a much-remixed theme.

  4. Dubstep really started growing on me, but it's harder than I thought to write. I thought to share this to show my first attempt at the genre. I will most likely gain more experience and try it again. Dubstep leaves plenty of room for creativity, but my mixing skills aren't quite there yet. Either way it was a fun little challenge. Let me know what you think! Any tips at all are truly appreciated .

I like it! I want to hear more!

  5. I would say there are some nice arrangement ideas and I think you did a good job on the instrumentation.

Since this is an orchestral remix my biggest complaint is that everything sounds a bit artificial, maybe it's the samples or the sequencing or both. The drums in particular sound very mechanical.

I would suggest to put this up for mod review to get some in-depth feedback.

    keep at it!

I agree: arrangement and instrumentation are excellent! A mechanical sound can usually be fixed by humanization (varying velocity and timing very very slightly). Some DAWs (like Reaper) have the ability to do this for you, but if yours doesn't you'll have to do it manually.

The only way I can see to improve this is to use better samples, but it's fine the way it is now. Arrangement and instrumentation can trump samples.

Definitely put this up for mod review.

  6. Just gonna add that working on your volume levels will make a huge difference. The balance and depth of the mix just feels off. It's rare that this happens, but everything is so quiet it takes away from the dynamics.

I've done what I can with the volume levels. I added more reverb to the choir and the weird distortion noise is gone. If there aren't any glaring problems, I'm going to release this version tonight on the MREO website.

  7. Alright, my first remix project! I've had plans for this track for a long time as it's probably my favorite in the game. Here's a link to the original
and here's a link to my remix https://www.dropbox.com/s/bdc9qan56xkfzbw/WaltzOfTheDroplets.wav

I haven't started to mix this yet, because I wanted to get material complete before starting mixing seriously. Because of that everything's kinda in the middle and cluttered. I'd like to hear people's opinions on the track so far and how I could improve the material still.

I'm surprised no one has commented yet. This is great stuff! The only arrangement comment I have is that that trombone blast (kinda sounds like a Reaper from the Mass Effect trilogy) was a little weird at first, but I think it fits the piece.

Keep up the excellent work! I'm looking forward to the mixed piece.

  8. Docking is an extremely powerful feature to customize Reaper with the important windows you use, in the locations you prefer them to be. Additionally it lets you access multiple windows from the same dock by switching back and forth.

Regarding the media explorer, how do I change which channel/VST is used to preview midi files? When I played around with the media explorer in one of my projects, it chose my 13th track's VST to play the midi files.

I love this thread, Argle! Everything you have discussed has been extremely useful. Thank you!

  9. Well, the sounds in general are high quality, but the articulations used haven't yet gotten the attention to detail they need to sound realistic.

The choir sounds pretty fake in the attack envelope and note connections until 0:30 where it's less exposed, though even after 0:30 I can still hear those attack and note connection issues. The strings as well, as they definitely need the keyswitching and MIDI CC you have available (I assume you're familiar with those?).

The mastering is OK, though it could be tighter in the low end by tightening up the sequencing on the double bass.

Thanks for the feedback, timaeus222! I smoothed out the male choir. It sounds much better, but now there's a clipping noise when the male choir changes notes at 0:23-0:25. Any idea how I get rid of that?

I've made some adjustments to the double bass and changed out the alto flute in favor of orchestral chimes.

  10. Hey there! Below you will find an orchestral arrangement of the title theme from Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. The final version of this arrangement will be posted on the Metroid Reorchestrated website.

I'm mainly looking for feedback concerning mixing, EQ, etc., but feedback regarding arrangement is welcome, too. Thank you!

Yeah this source has been done to death but yesterday I had this idea for a remix inspired by Yasunori Mitsuda's celtic-style works such as Creid and An Cinniuint.

I need to humanize the instruments a bit, and record live guitars and bass. There's almost no mixing done here except for the panning, but I thought this WIP turned out pretty good and wanted to share it :D

    Comments/critiques/feedback are welcome!

I dearly love Chrono Trigger so whenever I see a Chrono Trigger remix on this forum, I absolutely must check it out. And you didn't disappoint! This is quite excellent! My only suggestion is recording live guitar and violin.

  12. I've been using Reaper for two years now and I would love to learn tips and tricks.

As for topics, if you have EWQLSO or EWQLSC, channel routing information as well as general tips and tricks would be amazing. Another topic is what are your favorite customizations?

  13. Chrono Ark on Bandcamp - Free or Pay What You Want!

Chrono Ark is released now! I'm stupidly nervous about this so I'm going to drink some tea and chill out for a while. I really hope people enjoy the music and spread it around if you think it's good!

Why aren't more people commenting on this thread? This is amazing work! I haven't made it through all of the tracks, but the ones I did listen to (up through 31. Our Promise) impressed me enough to purchase the album. Listening to the album makes me want to play the game. Any chance that development will resume?

  14. I only have one suggestion: have the violin part (at 0:41) switch to a different instrument (flute/oboe, perhaps) around 1:10 and pan that instrument right. It feels unbalanced from 0:41 to 1:46 as it is now.

I really like what you have so far! I can't wait to hear where you take this mix!
