  1. I like Shy Guy Falls the most so far (music, atmosphere, track flow) and Yoshi's Valley the least (feels so different from the original, I barely recognize it)

Oh shoot forgot about Shy Guy Falls. I haven't played any of them more than a handful of times, but it's definitely a blast.

  2. This game is the bees knees.

150cc is whack though. Breezed through 50 and 100 but 150 just gets crazy, especially with multiple players.

And that MUSIC, oh that music. I seriously need the OST.

Also, what are everyones favourite tracks so far? I'm a big fan of Mount Wario, and the Electrodrome is super slick. Some reviews complained about the selection of classic tracks but I quite enjoyed them personally.

  3. If you haven't picked up Mario Kart 8 yet, Toys R Us has a deal going through tomorrow that will get you 40% off a second game. Throw in the free download (Wii U party for me, since the other options equal my library...), and you're looking at 3 games for under $100.

Yeah one of my local game shops had a similar deal (50% off though!) so I picked up Donkey Kong as well. Throw in Pikmin 3 and bam I just got 3 games for the price of 1.5, its a good day.

  4. A guy I met at MAGFest just started a Kickstarter for his game Combat Core:

Its a 4 player 3D fighting game that looks pretty cool. I approached him about making music for it, and he said he would want me to get paid before I wrote a soundtrack for him. So hey, if he reaches his goal and gets an audio budget I may have myself a composing gig :P If anyone is interested, check it out.

  5. I'm picking it up on Friday as well, so gosh dang excited. I keep getting the Dolphin Shoals music stuck in my head. I'm down for an OCR tournament at some point.

Oh also I thought I posted it before but its not in the first post, so my WiiU ID thinger is AmphibiousFrog if anyone wishes to add me.

  6. Here I come / Rougher than the rest of them

The best of them / Tougher than leather You can call me Knuckles / Unlike Sonic, I don't chuckle

    I'd rather flex my mucsles

I think it's more than enough :3 that tune's a guilty pleasure of mine :3

I love all the Knuckles raps, don't care what anyone says. Kick the Rock is my ringtone on my phone :P

  7. There are plenty of classification systems out there that use the honor system. I'm sure I've been asked my skill level for various things both online and on random forms in life. Not everyone in the world will be honorable, but we don't live in a perfect world.

I like the idea but I get that it would take some time and effort to code. I wouldn't be opposed to the list containing 3 levels of each instrument though like David said, honestly. It wouldn't be that big of a deal to scroll through, and for collaborations it would be nice to have at least SOME indication of what people think their skill levels are, even if they may not be 100% accurate. It'd be more accurate than just saying that I play the Trumpet without any indication at all. I'm all for it personally.

  8. So, not a huge deal but Soundiron has a small sale on Iron Pack 3:

$2.99 instead of $4.99 :P Its cheap even at full price, and it sounds like it has some decent percussion sounds. You can never have enough percussion.

*EDIT - Also a sale on their "Metal Bundle", which has a bunch of things but I haven't really looked into it. Might be worth a look though!

  9. Update!

    https://app.box.com/s/3o469xr4mhysnv0dufwy

So, I've touched up some things, as per the suggestions in this thread. Here's what I've done:

    - Kick and Snare on their own mixer channels.

    - Improved the snare sound, I think it sounds better and more snappy now.

    - Brought out the kick more.

    - Brought down the bass instrument just a hair.

    - Attempted to add a bit of bass and mid presence throughout.

    - Altered the attack of the fake FM brass slightly.

    - Keyboard has slightly more presence.

    - "Tinny" lead around 0:41 has unison voices added with some slight detune and very minor tweaks.

    - Overall EQ tweaks to tone down the higher frequencies.

I didn't go through to de-quantize the drums, I'm not sure if I will. While part of me does want to get some more realism out of this, I'm pretty happy with how it sounds overall. Moving forward I'll definitely consider how to get a more realistic sound for a style like this, but I'm about ready to wrap this track up and press on. Though I just subbed a mix so I'll have to wait a few weeks to sub this anyways, so please feel free to let me know of any more touch ups I could do!

Thanks again to everyone, you've all been extremely helpful.

  10. Casiopea -- chill Japanese fusion

T-SQUARE -- a little more upbeat than Casiopea

Mezzoforte -- nice, accessible contemporary jazz

-- nicer, even more accessible contemporary jazz

-- yummy fusion with lots of electric piano

Jean-Luc Ponty -- electric violinist, very fun to listen to, lots of synth work

-- very 70s brass-based jazz with a little synth work; very easy to listen to, has a really great vibe to it that I love

-- greatest pop band ever? most androgynous bassist ever?

-- highly creative, highly prolific, sort of uplifting clean-guitar fusion

-- fun, funky jams, lots of synth work and electric piano biz

-- needs no explanation, it's Chick fuckin' Corea

Return to Forever -- see above, except that it's a little less accessible and more "progressive" in its harmonies and rhythm

Herbie Hancock -- the man himself; here's some funky Rhodes jams

Well I guess I know how I'm spending MY day now. I've heard of some of these but daaaaaaaang that's awesome.

Yeah jazz! I can't think of much to add here, some of my favourites have already been mentioned. One group I can think of is the Modern Jazz Quartet. They've got a vibraphone, which I can never get enough of myself:

Also here's a random dude jamming on a Fender Rhodes, super smooth:

  11. I hope this gets done, man, because I actually really liked it. Jazz Fusion is very fun to listen to when it's all polished and stuff, so I think this'll be a hit. =)

Haha no worries, I WILL work on it in the near future. I just had a hard drive crash on my music (only the OS though, luckily none of my important content was lost) plus I have a recital later this week to prepare for. I'll be able to devote much more time to music after that.
