  1. Hey guys, its been a while since I've worked on anything. So this is a mix of the Vennicio theme, Starlight Valley theme and menu song from Dark Cloud 2. The idea for this song was to use the source materials to make something very retro and nostalgic. At the moment, I'm more concerned about composition, rather than mixing. So please let me know what I can do about the arrangement, form and instrument choice. The drums set is a bit unconventional, I sampled them from two old entry level yamaha keyboards gathering dust in my family's garage. One of them is a Portasound (basically a toy), but I can't remember what the other one is. Its one of those really crappy Yamaha keyboards your old high school has, you know the one I wanted to get more of the track done first, but inspiration has run dry for a while (probably from listening to the damn thing too many times) Veniccio - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEq5fUZOO68 Starlight Valley - Menu - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWmBUt3zc2Y Here's my version so far: Free MP3 download: Veniccio.mp3
  2. Oh, well that makes me sad. I sort of thought that I used the samples creatively rather than just chucking a drum beat over the original. Ah well.
  3. Thanks for all your advice Monobrow! I will try to address every one of those points! Actually the piano melody has been sampled from the original recording of the song. I've chopped it up and tried to give the impression that it has been sampled from an old vinyl so it is intentionally lo-fi. Is this even legal for a OC Remix submission?
  4. Ok so i've worked on this a little more, added some new stuff in. Still would like an opinion on what ive got so far. I'm planning to replace some parts in the verses with solos, but I havent got my keyboard with me at the moment. Heres the link http://tindeck.com/listen/gpyf Thanks in advance
  5. Hey guys I was working on this song a while ago and then when I came back to it the file was corrupted So anyway I decided to start again with a new concept where I would use altered samples from the original song. I'm not sure if what i'm doing is allowed by OC remix standards, so if anyone has any advice about that i'd really like to hear it before I go ahead with this song. I only started this yesterday but I don't want to go further until I am sure that sampling this amount of source material is OK. Thanks guys. Also any other feedback is welcome Here is the original And here is mine http://tindeck.com/listen/jnnb
  6. Well here is a short sample of what i'm working on. http://tindeck.com/listen/ydtp and here is the original Does it pass or is it too much?
  7. Hahhah sorry I should have been clearer before. I'm not just going to put a drum track over it, i've sort of mixed the sample down by putting it through a vinyl sim and added other stuff. Its not really the main attraction of the song. Its just a little repetitive sample. I know exactly what you mean about the newbies adding drum tracks I just thought maybe it would conflict with copyright or something
  8. Hello, I am allowed to use snipits of the original song in an OC remix submission? Or is that illegal? I want to chop up the melody and play it with new rhythms and stuff. Thank you
  9. Also, for the few Dark Cloud fans out there, do you think there any other Dark Cloud songs that would mix well into this song?
  10. Thanks for all your help guys! I'm kinda of at a dead end at the moment and I really need some help on finishing off the song. I put this slow piano bit in and I really like it, but I dont know how to bring the slow section back into the main section. I tried bringing the song into a breakbeat but I think it sounds retarded As soon as a figure this bit out, i'm sure I can finish the song in the near future and concentrate on polishing and tweaking. Heres the update http://tindeck.com/listen/iveh
  11. Hey guys I've worked on the song a bit more, tried to play around with the EQ like you guys suggested. I think its a bit less muddy but still needs more work. Anyway I finished the solo section and really wanted some feedback on that. Also did a section where I had a shot at chopping up the melody. I think i'd like some advice on the form of the song, im not sure its going in a way the keeps the listener engaged... Heres the link to the updated version http://tindeck.com/listen/dqoz
  12. Thats pretty awesome, this would be the first TWEETY mix to make it on right? This is probably an out there suggestion but maybe hardcore screams would be cool if they were used as backup vocals on some of the build up parts, just enough to power up the main vocals a bit. Anyway great work, listening to this really made my day
  13. Hey people of OC, I just started a remix of the Lunatic Wisdom Lab song from Dark Cloud 2 (or Dark Chronicle). This is my first attempt at arranging game music and I'd really like some feedback on what I have so far. So I thought i'd try a sort of funk version of the theme, added a walking bass and made it more upbeat. Theres a part where theres only a bassline and drums, i plan to record a solo in there. Its only about maybe one third into the song, i would really just like to know if im heading in the right direction with this. Dont be afraid to tell me its shit, I know it is at the moment but i need all the help I can get to improve Heres the Original And heres mine http://tindeck.com/listen/wyvk Thanks
