  1. Silent Hill hmm? Well, I'm too scared to play those kinds of games (Except Resident Evil 2 and Eternal Darkness.. that was almost like an action/shooter game. still freaky at times though)

I can't say that I like the gameplay elements in Silent Hill though.. like most survival horror games, the gameplay itself usually isn't the selling point..

But the series IS spooky though.. lots of witches and summoning demons and such.

  2. In my opinion, this is a very nicely done folk music mix! There's a lot of guitar and light percussion and occasionally sounded like Irish folk!

This is obviously not your typical techno oriented mix, and the soundsamples are top notch!

Though other reviewers think the percussion was too low, I think it was perfect! Too much percussion would've made this something entirely different than was intended. Needless to say, the tones and the samples were outstanding in this mix!

    Recommended!

  3. In full context, this remix sounds quite funky and that must be what Beatdrop wanted to accomplish. At times sounding like something straight out of a videogame (in terms of simplistic melodies and scratchy effects of the music quality), sometimes sounding like a funky backdrop of a rap music (near the middle, there's a nice beat reminiscent of a cool little jazz/rap melody), and at times it started sounding ORCHESTRAL!

My only gripe is how the mix ends a bit abruptly, but that's only a little gripe.

I can't quite put a finger on categorizing this remix into a particular category like trance, rap-theme, pure techno and such, and that's the biggest compliment there is for this remix so far as I'm concerned.

Fun little mix to say the least!

  4. Wow. To be blunt, this is like what One Winged Angel theme was to the simplistic Sephiroth theme in FF7. It's like Jared turned a normal run-of-the-mill theme then turned it into a final-boss theme. It does indeed sound like a professional work.

The usage of the voice samples from FFX could have been used a bit more, but there's ample amount of them to remind us that this is a FFX remix and not an original orchestral work though there's some original tunes mixed in here.

Nothing too jaw dropping, but I'm VERY impressed that Jared even bothered tacking the challenge of remixing a music in FFX, which wasn't exactly melody-heavy (As the little vocal piece shows.. that's one of the most memorable melodies in FFX in my opinion.. that says a lot about memorability of FFX's music.)

    Impressive.

  5. I don't know if this counts, but the last level in Advance Wars is ruining me. Of course it doesn't help that I'm no good at this kind of game anyway...

The previous battle took me 72 days before I reigned victorious. And this one... damn. I'm looking up some strategies, but they're not making any sense to me at all. And this guy keeps swooping in and making all my little things blow up. I hate him. And yet, I cannot stop playing.

There is such sorrow in this world.

That's not that bad.. I'm pretty good at strategy games but it took me about 60 days to beat that one.. I just forsook strategy and let Sami (if you have Sami in the battle. probably did), send as many infantry up wards so they distracted the bombers and heavy tanks. You need to do a lot of baiting and not actual fighting.. of course, you need to fight when it comes down to it..

  6. Okay. This boss is a bit... odd.

I've been playing Mortal Kombat II for a while... quite a few years actually. I own quite a few versions of the game. The Genesis version, the Saturn version (shame about the voice samples, considering the graphics ARE the arcade version and the music is damn nice), the 32X version... and the version in question, the SNES version.

See, Shoa Kahn is a push over in every Sega version. A simple jump over him, and kick him in the back again and again and he goes down. Simple. But the SNES version of Shoa Kahn? Uuuuuuuhhhhhhhh... no.

I've tried the pattern of old on the Sega systems, but it's doesn't work... at all. I tried the old foot sweep trick, and that doesn't work. We all know his attacks'll kill your ass in three, maybe four attacks. So, you can't screw up too many times. Even blocking is a pointless venture as he atacks again before you're even done recovering from blocking the previous hit. Scorpions spear works from time to time, but after one, maybe two hits, Kahn blocks it constantly. I've had my ass handed to me so many times by the SNES version of Shoa Kahn, it's sad. Kintaro is a complete puss compared to Kahn.

I've beaten the game, but in truth, I've yet to find a reliable way to consistantly beat Shoa Kahn in the SNES version. Not a fair fight... at all.

Kintaro? 8O I personally thought Kintaro was the toughest mutha I've ever fought in an SNES fighting game..

There's a sorta-reliable trick to defeating Shao Kahn in MK2.

    What you do is..

-In the beginning of the fight, backflip to the far left corner (or far right if you are using the 2nd player controls).

-Once you're in the corner, immediately crouch-block.

    -Let Shao Kahn shoulder-charge you

-Uppercut him as fast as you can.

If for any reason you get pulled out of the corner, you simply need to go there again then uppercut Shao Kahn until he's finished. Just remember the crouch-block though. That's imperative.

Unless of course, Shao does one of his kick/punch combos on you.. then you're screwed. No matter what you do :?

Spoken like a true Iron Chef! 8)

  8. Well, speaking of this remix as an atmospheric music, it gets its job done. It's slightly moody, and there are no notes or sounds that makes it sound abrupt in any way.

I personally liked how it had many melodies from Chrono Cross, and that's the highlight of this remix for me. Other than that, this music is not intend to rock. This is a music best played as a background feature, NOT an entertaining listen. However, for being atmospheric, it gets the job done. Pretty good listen as long as you are not looking for something exciting.

  9. Wow! This is a nice remix of one particularly spooky Doom 2 level! In fact, when I first heard the tunes, it reminded me of the Cyberdemons and the imps!

This remix sound pretty mean and it has enough variety to keep me from getting bored! Awesome remix! This is a yet another great Doom remix here in OCR.. from Mazedude no less!

  10. For what it does in being slow and having mellow sounds, it does its job greatly. In fact, I thought this particular OCRemix sounded a LOT like a FF7 instrumental piece.. And it truly sounds like something that could be in a soundtrack of an actual game!

Besides that though, I think it moves a bit too slowly for my tastes... But if anybody's looking for atmospheric music, it's not so bad. Those wanting fast paced sounds and something risque and innovative could be disappointed, but this remix is not for those tastes.

For what it does, it's a pretty good remix!

  11. Well, this mix was definitely original, but for some reasons it sounded too muddled.. First off, I think it's GREAT that an OCR remix finally has a song throughout instead of random, short vocals.

But throughout the vocal parts, there's too many instruments that are actually louder than the vocal and that helps make the tunes sound muddled and confusing. I think it would've been better if all those other sounds were in the INTERLUDES and not in the vocals themselves..

Otherwise, this is a very fun mix... but it sorta gave me a headache because those other instruments were so muddled with the vocals...

  12. Wow.. just wow. Just when I thought nobody remembers the awesome Twinkle Circuit music from Sonic Adventure 1, Darkesword justs pops out of nowhere and makes an awesome remix of it!

I don't know why you think the overlapping sounds are such a big deal djpretzel, since the transition was relatively quick and the notes sounded sorta similar between the two different music pieces.

To me, this is probably the best remix I've ever heard in OCR yet. Not because it's technically the best or the most ambitious, but it's so easy to listen to thanks to its light hearted melodies! And it's a great take on one of an overlooked game music I love! Thank you Darkesword! you made my day!

  13. Concering the Cyberdemon, sure, you can get them to fight other things, but the worst one is the one in the second secret level of Doom2. You finish off a bunch of nazis, thinking everything is all right, then you open a door and right behind it is a cyberdemon. One of those "HOLY FUCK" moments.

That secret level ROCKED. I loved it when one of those big headed, pink demons rushed out and mowed down a squad of nazis.... That made my day....

  14. The cyberdemon from Doom. Sorry kiddies but he ownz you.

    cybr1.gif

Oh and that one level In Doom II where both the cyberdemon and spid1.gif fight you at once.

D00D. EZ FIGHT. RUN AROUND IN A CIRCLE UNTIL THE SPIDER MASTERMIND HITS THE CYBER DEMON! THEN THEY WILL DUKE IT OUT. then it takes about 3 rockets to kill off the victor

3 rockets? WTF! FAR MORE... CyberDemon is far more superior to Spider Mastermind, so to finish him off, lots of rockets are needed... And especially when there are lots of enemies around, Spider Mastermind's lifespan decreases faster since minigun is an efficient way to make other baddies angry.

That's level 20 btw. But that isn't even a difficult level in the end. The most difficult ones, when playing the levels the one & only way (Ultra violence starting off with only the pistol and without saving) are probably levels 23 and 29. Or that's how I remember it.

anyway, theCore, if you think Cybbies are difficult (which they aren't, they are just so goddamn long-lasting), try my level, in which you get to telefrag some Cybbies:

    http://www.sunpoint.net/~jogilius/Pentagon.zip

Telefragging cybbies was indeed the original idea when I started building that level, but the level grew more complex, and is in UV very difficult, but very much possible. I think I've played it through twice on uv without cheating. Doom Mega-mayhem...

yea 23 and 29. BUT DUDE! IT TAKES ONLY ABOUT 3 ROCKETS AFTER THE SPIDER MASTERMIND AND THE CYBERDEMON GO AT IT. THE SPIDER MASTA USUALLY LOSES BUT THE CYBERDEMON ENDS UP TAKING ALOT DAMAGE. THEN AFTER THAT LIL SCUFFLE WITH THEM, FIRE 3-5 WELL AIMED ROCKETS. TAKE THAT YOU :D

You guys ever played those Doom mods that let you fight 10 Cyberdemons in ONE GIANT ROOM?

My GOD that was scary! You go into this octagonal room thinking that normal demons would come out, but NO. TEN CYBERDEMONS!

The fun part is when cyberdemons shoot eachother and they go on a war, but one rocket would waste you anyway... Man that was fun...

  15. OMG... no one here has dealt with the insanity that is Justice from Guilty Gear or the final form of I-No on GGX2, have they? >.o Absolute humilitation.

Also, Uber Soldat from RtCW is another one of my non-faves. ^.^

    ~Fyreseel

Well, I agree that Justice and I-no were pretty tough, but those guys are LOWER TIER compared to the King of Fighters bosses.

I dare anybody to say that Igniz is an easy boss. I DARE YOU :?

  16. I must say, this remix is quite unique for sounding quite serene for once! Instead of those ridiculous jungle remixes, this one sounds relaxing. I liked how the music doesn't stray too far from the original music, and this is a yet another great Mario 64 mix! Somewhat repetitive, but I don't mind because it has a GREAT piano instrumental throughout! Solid work!

  17. I dont know his name but he was that Floating orb gear guy that was in the shield generator cave next to Barts home town. (i frogot the town name.)

You mean Shakhan? Yeah, he was a bastard. The only way I was finally able to beat him was by going into infinity mode, beating on him, then healing and defending while going into infinity mode with a different character, beating on him... And so on.

I still haven't beaten the final boss for Xenogears. I need money to make my gears un-crappy, and I rather loathe running around and randomly battling for no reason other than battling. So, yeah.

I think the ONLY battle that actually gave me problems is the final fight with Ramsus (before he joins your crew... ironically, after that insane fight, he decides to join you... whatever...)

Deus was so easy for me.... all you need to do is simply level up with all the gears and just leave it to Xenogears to do their special moves (of course, you need to defend a few times to charge the moves up)

  18. A well defined, no-nonsense remix.

Very likeable, but it doesn't shoot for the stars as it sounds like what a remix should: adding a few notes to the old ones. So in terms of creativity, this remix scores very low.... Besides, I also liked the original theme MUCH better as it sounded more gothic and dark. This remix should please anybody looking for an upbeat Metroid theme fix.
