  1. I never intend to fail to submit, so SOMETHING will come out of my computer whether it's worth a third of a damn or not, but the last few days have been exceedingly unwilling to let me have any time at my desk.

I have to go pass out now, and when I do get up I have phone calls to make, but rest assured a file that contains some sounds at least vaguely reminiscent of Locke and Lenna's themes will be up before the deadline.

  2. Don't let me alone

    You not alone! I promise!

I just want to try to squeeze more time out of my days to do this because [QUALITATIVE REMARKS REDACTED], but I promise I have what I consider "enough" to submit already done. I will submit tonight or tomorrow before leaving for work, depending on how late I'm up.

I'm not particularly good at any of this yet, and time pressure on top of that just makes it worse. I don't just want to submit an entry. If I can help it, I want to submit a good entry.

  3. Well 3 days to go and only 1 submission, albeit the FF crystal clash compo is definitely overshadowing this round, so it's sort of inevitable. I think I'll do up a quickie so that Chernabogue won't feel so lonely :P

Don't let that be an excuse to sit back tho, if you have the time and inclination ;)

Don't worry, I'm planning on submitting. I haven't done it yet because I keep telling myself I'll find the time to [QUALITATIVE DESCRIPTORS REDACTED], but whether I find that time or not I will be submitting what I have.

  4. It's automated based on whatever parameters vBulletin uses to flag potential stuff. I check through them every few hours and approve the non-spam. I don't quite get its selection process either, but just be patient. :-)

Further analysis shows it actually only seems to happen when I post from some other physical location (need more locations tested). This post, made from my home desktop, will probably go through no problem. Huh.

To stay on topic, the Quest for Gold theme mentioned is almost definitely not allowed, and the super short theme I mentioned (while probably allowed) would be hard to squeeze enough out of while still being recognizable as the source and is probably a bad idea. Sad day.

  5. You mean this? (2:30) http://youtu.be/U60ad2wRYII?t=2m30s

If so, that's a slow remix of the Duck Tales TV show theme song and is thus ineligible per OCR general rules.

    May have meant this

but that is an awfully short source. The remastered version
is a little more substantial, but starts to borrow from the show's main theme.

Err... nevermind. I'm incapable of adding a colonized statement to a title in my head and assumed that was the name of the TRACK, which sounded different on that port.

[Also, I can't edit my other post because it hasn't been "approved" yet? Izzis a feature of being an un-established presence, having all my posts scrutinized until I hit some respectability limit (like 30 days or 100 posts or whatever)? I get it if that's the case, cutting down on spam and all, but I don't see this mentioned in the posting guide... bleh. It's not a discussion for this thread.]

  6. And to clear up any worries about not "being good enough" or anything like that, don't worry about that. This isn't about winning and it's not about making the perfect song. At its core this competition is about learning, and practicing. It's unusual to finish a whole mix in a week, and all the polish involved, but this competition can help you start learning your own mental shorthand that could help you out a lot in the long run.

My worry isn't that I'm "not good enough". I'm not, but that's okay because more music is never the wrong answer and everybody starts somewhere and blah blah blah. My problem is that I don't want to take anybody's pick from them and then wind up producing garbage or not finishing in time.

I'd feel super bad if somebody's favorite theme got snatched from them and then not even done justice. So I'm kinda sitting around waiting until near the end so I can pick the least picked.

  7. Oh man does this sound fun... but I'm way too new to the game to even do any individual themes proper justice, let alone two at a time. For multiple possible combinations. Every two weeks (assuming I live past the first round). Yeah, not gonna go well.

Normally that wouldn't be a problem because more music is never bad and I'd just do it anyway, but since themes get claimed... I don't want to take anybody's favorites away from them.

Hrm... what's the least popular character theme of the entire numbered series...

  8. Voting over - qualitative remark ban lifted

Well then. A little sad to see zero points, but I can't exactly blame the people. All else aside, you can barely hear mine when compared with the others!

EQ/compression is super important and I don't yet have a good grasp on how to make the final product audible without just cranking the gain and clipping everywhere. And before anybody chimes in with a link to a tutorial or something, I've read a few already. Conceptually, I get it. I'm just having difficulty making the tools I have work. Maybe I'll have it figured out in time for the next thing I try to do.

  9. Ooh... this sounds perfect for me. I'm just now faffing about enough with music to pretend I can remix instead of being forever listening, but a competition specifically designed to stay conservative so I don't have to stretch my not-yet-existent arrangement muscles too far?

I like it! A perfect place to debut my negative skills and snag second-to-last place.

  10. Introductions? Well, let's see...

I like video games. I also like the music therein. Recently, I decided there was no good reason for me not to get my hands dirty and play with the music myself.

Even more recently, I learned that I need to learn a lot before I can do that with any degree of success. In due time, I will gather the courage to post some of my slop and hopefully improve in the process. We'll see.
