  1. Spore's soundtrack is also going to be procedural.

In a very interesting WMMNA article detailing one of Eno's recent lectures, it is noted that Will Wright and co. "wanted sound that is just as procedural as the game itself," preferring to avoid any looping tunes that change with each level. Eno is already working on a program called "The Shuffer," which will use sampled bits and pieces to craft Spore's soundtrack, without ever creating "the same composition twice within a lifetime."

Not that I need any more reason for getting this game, but this is a pretty sweet feature and I hope future games can use this to remove the infectiousness many soundtracks get.

  2. Question...On Animal Crossing I sometimes have seen balloons carrying gift boxes under them floating in the sky. Can you shoot 'em down somehow? Or are they just there to be there?

You gotta move near the top of the map before using a sling shot, too.

  3. Savage would be a good example. While one person is building a base, collecting resources and making upgrades a la WarCraft 3, all the other people on your team are on the ground trying to get money for themselves or invading the other persons base in an FPS fashion.

  4. Welll, I do have a $10-off thing for GameStop, so that would bring it down to $30.

My other thought was to get Animal Crossing: Wild World, so I can have something to use the WiFi we have at home.

Mario Kart might be worth a shot for you. You can play online with friends or random people. Only problem is that you gotta learn to snake in order to win most races. Theres a lot to do with single player. Missions are fun and the grade system adds a fair amount to the replay value if you're into that stuff.

I also picked up Tetris DS which I like a lot. Theres a few different game modes that are pretty fun, but I play it a lot just for normal Tetris and the occasional Head-to-Head with a CPU or random online opponent. I think you can temp download Tetris on up to 15 other people. Maybe wait until this gets cheaper.

I like Animal crossing too. One of those games you play an hour a day, every day. I find that when I get distracted with other things, though, that it's easy to ignore.

  5. IMO, Mario Kart 64 *0.5 > Mario Kart Double Dash * 2.0.. MKDD just didn't have enough to it, it felt like.

MK64 was unintentionally awesome for the crazy stuff you could do with the physics, like launching over walls you weren't supposed to, etc etc.

  6. Convolution =/= Intelligence. This is a casual forum, not an english paper.

Heres what you said without the pointless B.S.

Definition (link):5. an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected.

People who shorten "Nintendo GameCube" to "GCN", refer to the "Wii" as "Nintendo Wii," which is longer. You expect them to leave it shortened, when they do the contrary. Thats Irony!

I also liked how you decided to jump in on the discussion just so you could stroke your ego.

Time to go watch some low-brow T.V.

  7. I only remember there being, like... 3 purple rupees in OoT. TP definately had a rupee overload. Also, there WERE a lot of places to bomb stuff, but almost all of them were just rocks that gave rupees... Maybe one of the main reasons for the rupee overload was so Zelda's Wii launch wasn't too overbearing or difficult for newcomers? The Wii is probably attracting a bunch of new people after all.

    On completely different note.

Are there any plans on adding new content to TP later? I know Probably not, but theres a handful of places that bug the hell out of me because they look like there should be something, such as the round "well" in the Kakariko Graveyard with metal plates on top (which is theoretically near where hookshot cave was in OoT), unattainable areas in Death Mountain that look like structured paths, and Fado's House. This could also be explained as removed beta stuff, which makes me just as sad.

Edit: On a short google search, apparently George Harrison (Senior VP of Nintendo) and Reggie mentioned something about downloadable content.

  8. So I keep hearing that Excitetruck really is worth a buy - should I go for it?

My bro has been playing it since launch inbetween Zelda and now Elebits, but loves it. Theres a decent amount of unlockable stuff and crazy stuff to figure out on the different courses. Hes not a big racing game guy either, except maybe Road Rash and Mario Kart. Not sure how big racing fans take to it though.

  9. Blah on my temperamental wireless router. For some reason I periodically lose a connection. I lost a connection while updating my Wii and its stuck at the update screen even though I got my router kicked back into place. I don't wanna hurt anything by turning the Wii off =|.

  10. Australian and UK Wii owners, maybe the rest of Europe...

    ATTENTION!

You have have weather channel now! GO UPDATE.

Us US guys don't get it until later :(

    In under 2 days.

I'm still waiting to try the internet channel and the supposed mp3 channel.

  11. Anyone using this? I've never been big on using google's stuff like Gmail or anything, but I've thought about getting an account because a ton of stores right now are offering 20+ dollars off some orders over $50 (Like Gears of War for @ $40 after shipping). It also sounds like next year sometime they'll stop adding fees.

    What do you kids think?

  12. As a californian, who is much closer to japan than most americans,

I am i cali too, but what does this have to do with anything

also take that crap out of your sig

apparently we are more japanese than we think, arek

Isn't the center of population in Missouri somewhere? If so, then where I am in Iowa is closer to Japan than most Americans. Food for thought.

  13. Stumped on a heart piece...

Fortune teller shows me a room with about 16 of the small spiders with larger white abdomen (butt part) and about five spiders with one eye that walk about like tarantulas (red with blue abdomen). The room is roundish with yellow bricks, kind of castle/dungeon like. There are openings on the left and right side of the room I could hop up into, with torches above each. In center, theres a staircase with a divider. It looks like Arbiter's ground, but I know its not in there.

Sorry for the excruciating detail, I'm just stumped as hell. =|

It's in the Temple of Time. Was my last heart piece, too. What you need is the Rod of Dominion to move one of the statue pots at the back of the left ridge onto a button located at the bottom of the slope where it'll drop. Then you need to toss another statue pot to the ridge on the other side and do the same thing there, then the chest you need will show up.

I thought it was the Arbiter's Grounds too, but then I looked around some more. :)

Yup, that was it. I apparently forgot to get the compass, so when I ran back, I assumed I just got all the chests. Thanks!
