Castlevania 3. Best OST on the NES. Make sure you get the japanese version as it had an extra soundchip that made the music sound better.
Honestly I think one or two of the songs sound better in the NES version than in Akumajou Densetsu because the percussion is slightly different and sometimes the extra channels swallow up the main theme of the song.
Almost all of them are deeper/richer in the VRC6 version, though. I'd recommend Madara for another good VRC6 soundtrack (and the SNES sequels have strong music, too.)
By the way, why has Zophar.net gone down several times lately?

Amazing, best CV3 remix around; as much as I like PowerGoat's collection, most of the game's songs weren't meant for guitar, let alone the long freestyles he goes on; the orchestra style here is perfect.
There are downbeat, upbeat, etc. parts that flow neatly between each other...love it.
Both the plain NES and VRC6 versions were great and this takes both of them to a different level.

Play the Japanese Castlevania 3 (Akumajou Densetsu.) Vastly better music (VRC6 chip,) slightly better graphics and gameplay.
Madara is a good Konami RPG that also has excellent VRC6 music, and is Japanese but has a translation hack (go to Aeon Genesis.) A little inconvenient in the gameplay department, though.
I want to see the Lagrange Point translation finished!

yeah that ain't real nes stuff, it barely sounds like it
go to virt.vgmix.com for real nes style remix stuff
you can listen to child molester michael jackson's thriller song remixed in vrc6 format--the kind thats in the japanese castlevania 3
holy shit I'm drunk and have trouble typing straight

Hm, cool stuff. Heard this?
I didn't until now; not too bad.
-
Did he now? Where can I find them? I was actually thinking about that the other day - someone should start a new kind of PRC where you remix "new" (SNES/Genesis and onwards) music into NSF's.

2A03 is AWESOME for chiptune remixes too, http://www.2a03.org/browse.php/2A03/archive/covers

Tragic Prince is just too good to be remixed...you can't add much depth to it, and changing style would kill it.
For those who need samples, ffshrine should do the trick...
-
I know someone made a couple guitar remixes of Bucky a while back, but it was probably either a lost WIP or a lost VGMix song.
Join the NSF revolution now! Ban all MP3's!Actually I loved how Virt made a couple nsf-style remixes of real songs a while back, including of Michael Jackson's (cough pedophile cough) Thriller in Konami VRC6 format.

I have the answer for you and it is thus: they are no different from you or I.
True, it was mostly facetious.
But there's a saying that celebrity deaths mostly come in twos/threes/etc.

And Kurt Vonnegut a few days ago...what is it with prominent politicians/political writers the last few days?

You don't like the ones on here, then I'd recommend googling BliNd's songs. Not much deviation from the originals but some nice new instruments (A Shot of Crisis is amazing both in its original and here.)
-
And so it goes.
Harrison Bergeron was nice story that hasn't been mentioned yet...really gave meaning to "some are more equal than others."

Here is an excellent set of Vulcan Venture (using that arcade name so as not to confuse it with the MSX sequel) remixes and other Konami stuff--foreign language but you should be able to pick out the MP3s...

http://k6a.dip.jp/oto/H-FCGRII-ST6.mp3 is probably my favorite among the Vulcan Venture ones.
The Castlevania 3 ones are awesome, too.
Interesting how they put a lot of songs into quasi-NES format.

Anyone up for mixing a few military beats from this game in a medley?
I like "Voice of Ark" (spc track 11,) "Move" (spc track 9,) Warning One (track 21,) and almost all the others.
It'd sound best with the infamous "hidden sample" if you can (provided it doesn't violate any copyrights to do so--seeing as it was originally borrowed from Fun^Da^Mental's "Dog Tribe.") Also, if there are any rules regarding dirty words please edit them out of that...however, it'd be cool to title a remix "C18 Is Watching You," LOL.
-
Honestly...it's a good game, as are most of Compile's other early shooters.
For its time it had good graphics (I liked the rippling galaxies and rotating base,) decent sounds, excellent gameplay.
-
I've listened to this song many times over the last 4 years, and it's still amazing.
BTW,
One has to wonder if any single one of the composers who worked on the soundtrack have visited us and laughed / cried / dropped their jaw in amazement that their NES chip tunage from days of yore had inspired this much homage. I guess we'll never know (unless like "Yuukichan's Papa" emailed us with proof of identity and some kind words of encouragement, but I'm not holding my breath ^^Wikipedia has since answered the proof of "Yuukichan's Papa's" identity question, LOL...

Nice song as always, Mazedude--thanks.
And I loved the game for its sheer silliness, even though the play was glitchy and all-around awful--why was it I always wanted to go eat some jellybeans after I gave up on playing it?

It's funny how the anti-videogame contingent blamed Doom for Columbine...they talked about how Harris named his sawed-off "Arlene" (after Arlene Sanders, who was not a named game character but actually the heroine of the Doom books, which every fan should read.) Since I had never heard about the books at the time, I was trying to figure out what the hell they were talking about.
But when you look at the whole picture, Harris and Klebold had much, much bigger problems that had little to nothing to do with games (i.e. the absolute inability to take a joke, and the inability to like other extracurricular activities.)

Actually, that was a port of Thunder Force AC... except they made things look and sound worse than the arcade game (and the Genesis game for that matter), replaced a couple levels over what the arcade game did, and mushed up the controls.
Basically, it wasn't worth mentioning
Oh ok, I'd never played AC but I noticed the Genesis similarities.
It's not that bad, definitely at least worth mentioning but not on the same level as the best early 16-bit shooters.

TF1- Sharp X1, Sharp MZ-1500, NEC PC-6001 mkII, and NEC PC-8801 mkII
TF1 Construction- Fujitsu FM-7 and NEC PC-9801
TF2- X68000 Sharp, Genesis, Saturn
TF3- Genesis, Saturn
TF AC- Arcade, Saturn
TF4- Genesis, Saturn
TF5- Saturn, PS1
Also, Thunder Force III also had a "port" for the SNES, Thunder Spirits. (Not a very accurate port; some of the graphics and sounds were improved, but the choice of level paths was eliminated, and some levels and music were butchered.)
-
But the SNES lagged, too.
Very true, a lot of people think ROM = no skip, but there was especially a good deal of lag every time a game had to swap samples and music out of the SPC700.
-
Meh...severely goes overkill on the atmosphere, and I liked how the original had longer and heavier percussion.
-
WOW, I like it, it sounds really heavy and dramatic already! Although it sounds NOTHING like the original until about 1:10, then it starts freestyling again at 2:15, which is all a good thing. I love how it builds up at the start. And it almost sounds like you have a little bit of Innocent Water/Sea right before the main theme.
Around 1:42-1:46, I would include the background bells in addition to the main ones. They gave the original song a lot more style at that point.
Cymbals are wayyyyyyyyy too loud at the end, and honestly almost all the other percussion should be toned down 10-20%.
You haven't done much of the quiet refrain part that comes after the bells in the original song.
But good work, SD3 has way too many good songs that haven't made the light of day with remixes (Evening Star is another of my unsung favorites.)
-
I like this latest version; it's a decent remix of an amazing song, but still needs some bass and maybe some drums or other strong percussion.
Also, not sure how much it matters but I've noticed most of the songs here have more creative titles, to the point that someone who's only passively familiar with the game or has only heard the .spc set might not be able tell where the song is from. I'd personally name a remix like this "Seeking the Goddess Statues" or "Minerva's Armor."
Happy Engagement, djpretzel!

I thought Abadoss' "At the End of All Things" was the best wedding-ish song on here, what with all the bells.
Anyway, congrats DJP, but POIDH...jk
