The People's Remix Competition 338 PRCv13-26 Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! Welcome to the last round of this season. Again this is a free round: no restriction, everything is allowed, also remixing multiple sources in one song. It is even allowed to continue working on a WIP, as long as most of the work is done during this round. It is not allowed to post a song which you did in the past. The only restriction is that most of the time (> 50%) spend on the song is during the upcoming two weeks. Even MIDI rips are allowed, but probably you won't get a first place with that. Based on the poll of the last round, I decided to drop the rule that you have to post the song to ThaSauce. You can upload the song anywhere you want, but I must have a download link. So if you use SoundCloud, don't forget to allow downloads, otherwise your song does not count as an entry or bonus mix. I will still use ThaSauce as a possible place to submit songs. I've made another poll about the setup of the contest for this round. Thanks for the reply. PRC338 is a free round. I don't think it's a good idea to alternate between game and single source this way, it's confusing and if implemented I would prefer a setting that the mixers can choose to pick a source or game. Selecting a game might be a bit against the goal of PRC: remixing unknown sources (or at least sources without an Ocremix), I need to think how this selection should happen if I go for it. But the setting you present (winner of PRC X selects the source for PRC X+2) has some advantages. One of them is that the remix stage of the next round can start before the last round has ended (even during the voting stage) since the source of the next round is already chosen. It also gives people more time to vote and select a source since they don't get to decide the source for the next round but for the round after that. For me it's also much easier since I have lots of time to prepare the next round. I've considered to implement this in the past but never did it. A disadvantage is that winners have to wait longer before 'their source' is remixed. They can win two rounds in a row and after that they cannot win the next two rounds (except if I drop the limitation that winners can't enter; of course they can always do bonus mixes). I might do this if not many people are against it (if I do, the winner of PRC338 selects a source for PRC340, the winner of PRC339 selects the source for PRC341 etc.). I don't know anything about IRC so I cannot say much about that. It might be interesting. But that only works if there's a good number of people who's interested to tune in at a specific time. Especially when rounds need extensions it might be difficult to plan it.

However, after extending it, both Supercoolmike and DJ Mokram managed to get a song in and it was DJ Mokram who submitted the most popular song. 8 People voted for this round, a very good number of voters. Good to see three songs at the end. I was sick in the last days (don't worry it doesn't have anything to do with the low number of entries in the last rounds), so I wasn't able to 'officially' start the voting stage, but of course everyone knows how to vote. If my double vote will result in a tie, the song who gots the most points without my vote will win. Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it a lot. I'm not stopping PRC yet; only if the upcoming 10 rounds have 10 extensions and <= 10 songs with only 10 votes and 5 default wins by myself I might consider it. I also don't want to stop remixing unknown sources and start remixing the Ice Cap theme for the 29658th time, since that will be the end of PRC and the start of the BRC (Bundeslang's Remix Competition). We already had someting in the past called the Popular Track Music Competition (only 1 round was done, Terra's Theme). Some interesting comments are made already, like the point about the length of the contest. Another interesting discussion might be: should PRC and MnP have similar deadlines (so that people can choose between or do both) or have different deadlines so that there's always a possibility to work on a song for one of the contests. I might change the schedule a bit so that deadlines are not at the same date (MnP has a bit longer remixing stage and takes 3 weeks in total on average). I take this all into account when I set up the poll for the next round.

Thanks for the replies. PlanarianHugger is telling the truth, many rounds end with only 1 song and 1 or 0 votes. Thanks again for entering, without your participation several rounds might not have ended with a winner. DJ Mokram is right, promoting the contest more might help to get more participants. The ThaSauce community is old and having to sign up for that might be an obstacle. For me, organising the contest this way doesn't take a lot of time (+- 30 minutes per round, without voting and making songs). That's the reason why I'm still doing it, if it takes more time I cannot do it. I don't always have the time to actively promote the contest via Facebook or other social media platforms. I'll make a poll about the contest in the next round. Depending on the outcome of that poll and the number of songs in the upcoming rounds I may take action. I don't want to change to many things since PRC must remain PRC and not change in a different contest. Possible options: - Stop forcing to use ThaSauce, let people upload the song where they want. I still can open the ThaSauce page as a possible place to have songs uploaded. Voting at this site (public voting). - Make the rounds longer (1 month, like DOD) - Let winners select a game instead of a specific source. - Use sources from the request forum. - Remove the limitation that sources may not have a song at Ocremix. - Don't extend when the deadline is over. Updated my PRC sites with the latest rounds. Also edited the ThaSauce pages in such a way that the results are correct (the scores might not be correct, but the songs are in the right order). As mentioned before, the winner will select the source for PRC337. PRC338 will be the traditional anniversary round, this year it will again be a free round (with no limitations). The winner of PRC337 will select the source for PRC339. The winners of PRC338 and PRC339 both may pick a source for PRC340. Hopefully the coming rounds will get more love as the latest ones, PRC331 was the last round with 3+ songs, PRC323 (if I'm correct) was the last round which ended on the originally planned deadline with more than 2 songs). I might consider changing the contest a bit, but I'm not sure yet.

Still no regular songs (thanks for submitting the bonus PlanarianHugger), this means that next round starts in a couple of minutes. I'll select a source myself. I try to make a mix of this source later (and I will submit it). Hopefully next round will get more love. We're almost ending this season, next round is almost the last regular one since PRC338 is the additional anniversary round.
