  1. Reminds me of a folk singer/songwriter I know in Florida named David Milam. Really good stuff. Reminds me of one of my favorite songs of his.

Of all the awesome types of song that are overlooked, folk songs have to be one of the most incredibly understated. I love the line "the distance multiplies in rhythm with the debt"...it holds so much imagery in so few words.

Great job, DJP. This is one song that won't easily be forgotten.

  2. Tru dat. Of course, we need to narrow the list dramatically...so the project leader (for right now, you) needs to get some outside input, and come up with a resolute list of bosses. I'd suggest you keep it under 35, but over 25...don't wanna kick out some good contenders. Your call, though.

Also, if you don't mind me saying, I wouldn't start a "poll" necessarily...that would lead to a LOT of votes for one guy (or group of baddies), and a bunch would be left in the dark. I suggest you come up with your list, and then ask people to rank the bosses in order of memorability, assigning a number value to each rank (a la PRC). Then tally up the points and come up with a listing.

I sure hope this thing takes off. It's a great idea, and a lot of good ideas around here never go anywhere. Let's hope you don't fall prey to the same fate.

  3. You know what this mix needs? Less synth, more acoustic guitar. You should team up with someone like Geoffrey Taucer or something and have him do some improv, backing guitar. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated...just some good ol' fashioned pickin' n strummin', another layer to help keep the pulse pumping.

Of course, that may not fit into your idea of the mix, but it certainly worked for Death on the Snowfield, so...take that as you will.

  4. I noticed how a lot of people said they don't like the vocals. I have to agree. I wouldn't even listen to the rest of the song once the vocals kicked in (especially the chorus - ugh) until I read about the song getting better afterwards.

Which it does. 4:00 on kicks some serious ass. I don't even mind the male-only lyrics too much, but once the chorus picks up, I'm sorry, it truly is game over for me. Once again, 4:00 on rocks hard, but...meh.

  5. Hmm...how about you have a theme, like, traveling through the years of memorable bosses?

For instance, the first of the bosses to be introduced to videogames (Bowser/Ganon) would have the first track, then the next (Mother Brain/Ridley), then the next, more and more into the future, until the most recent boss theme is the last one. That would also sort of go with the theme of "Crescendo to Chaos"...a gradual rise from the low end to the high end (timeline-wise).

Or, you could do the same thing, only with the indelibility of the bosses...lesser ones (King Dedede, K.Rool, etc.) go first, and then the bigger baddies come last (Magus, Sephiroth, Bowser, etc.). Of course, their ranks as memorable bosses would have to be voted on before a track order is assigned, but that's another matter.

Of the two, I like the first one better. Seems more like a "journey through gaming" sort of idea. And that would also help narrow down the options of bosses...take one or two from each year (unless a bunch of really really good ones came out all at once) until you have a refined list of kickass baddies. A plethora, even.

    Just an idea.

  6. Damn. CS was just about to be the most-torrented project yet in about 2 more weeks, and now I have this sucker to contend with. Oh, fudgesickle.

J/K you guys. I hope this thing really, really takes off. Cause, you know, it's all for OCR, right?

Seriously, though, don't try and trump CS. You'll regret it.:roll:

  7. Ooh...a remix of the SotC title theme. With a nice progression as well. Seems like a winner.

Aside from the lack of material, however. Even for something that's supposed to be chill and laid-back, this is bare-bones as all get-out. Of course, you already know that, so...I won't berate you on that aspect. Since the arrangement is nice (and cohesive, more importantly), I guess the only issue is the title...

    (any slash marks mean either/or)

    "Assassin in the Snow/Wind"

    "Into/Inside the Hourglass"

    "Whisper of the Shadow"

    "(Under/Beneath) The Ancients' Shadow"

    Ehh, just some ideas.

  8. How about a remixer selects the boss he/she wants to tackle, and then selects the version of their music that they remix? I'm sure that would be more remixer-friendly, don't you?

Also, how about something simpler, like "Crescendo to Chaos"? Too many C's going on.

  9. I am INTENTLY waiting upon this project. Sorry that I wasn't able to have my piece in here, but I'm sure TheDeath will be able to do it better justice than I.

    Here's to a surely-memorable project.

BTW, Hale-Bopp's new song, dare I say it, trumps Summertime. Blasphemy, I know.

    ~.C.S.~

  10. Well, if you can't post WIPs or anything, at least give us a CLUE as to how the project is faring...and not just "coming along", either. Something solid, like, 24/30 planned tracks have WIPS, so-and-so are completed, etc. Just, like, completion percentages and stuff. I don't even need to know artists or source tunes, just progress, cause this is a bit ridiculous, having an OCR Site Project from which OCR as a community is totally isolated.

    Please?

    ~.C.S.~

  11. You guys are pretty close to the end, so...don't know if it's been decided or not, but what's the proposed OCR sub-domain addy? I checked the last few pages of the thread and didn't see it.

I dunno...the third name looks the best to me, but I was just throwing some stuff out. Ignore me if so desired.

  12. *sorry for posting bad thread.* so was their ever plans to do a cross section of this? cause it seriously seems half assed to do only one game in a series.

Chrono Symphonic focuses only on Chrono Trigger.

Site Projects work on a game by game basis. Someone (or a group of people) come up with an idea for a project, and foster interest and participation by remixers, artists, and fans.

In other words, if you want a Chrono Cross project, you should try to organize it yourself.

I would, but I have no musical talent other than my turntables.

Who said you needed musical talent?

Well, you at least need to be known and respected in the community for people to follow you... Stick around, grey; maybe sometime. :P

Interesting you say that, because when I started the project, NO ONE knew who I was. The only thing I had to my name was the TBMC (Theme-Based Mixing Contest) which lasted all of 4 posts and was called a shameless rip on the OVGMC (which I helped zircon organize, but nevermind that...). Everyone except for the remixers just thought I was some dumb*ss trying to make a name for myself (which was half-right...I'll let you decide which half).

So, as long as you can grab their attention, pay no mind to your postcount, or their discourse about your project. If you want it, go and get it. I did.

  13. I loved it. I haven't played the games (yet...) but this movie may have changed my mind and inspired me. Aside from the incredibly creepy and stylistic feel of the movie (that part with Pyramid Head on the church steps will prolly give me nightmares) the storyline, which I gather was altered quite a bit, was definitely one of the better parts of the movie. As were the INCREDIBLE graphics.

    SPOILERS

I am a little confused by the end though...don't quite understand what happened with Rose and Sharon. Best guess is that they're still stuck in the "other world" almost of Silent Hill, even after having left, but they might also be implying that both of them are dead and are just spirits. I dunno, I'll have to research it.

    END SPOILERS

Overall, I'd say it's worth seeing at least once, if just for the genre fix. Good watch.

  14. Thanks for the nice comments, everyone. As for the less-favorable comments lingering out there, you can't please all of the people all of the time. I hope you'll listen to it again without listening for what's wrong, and just enjoy everything that went right.

As for Zas's issue...the same thing happened with mv and Russell Cox. They didn't get to me in time, so I took what they had said in the past and fluffed it up. Now that we have the chance to correct it (since they're paying attention now), we will. I'm sort of indisposed ATM Zas, but tell StarZander what to fix and he'll do it as soon as he can. And if I remember correctly, on the last dozen or so pages of the other thread, you said that Battle with Magus was in there. So that's why I put it in.

Compyfox, please stop trying to make everyone aware of the imperfections in the site. Just be happy it's released, instead of upset that StarZander couldn't be here to release on time. You broke so many deadlines yourself, it's essentially the pot calling the kettle black. It'll get fixed eventually.

As for everyone else, please continue to share your thoughts. I appreciate all the enthusiasm.

  15. OFFICIAL WEBSITE: http://chrono.ocremix.org

    OFFICIAL TORRENT: http://bt.ocremix.org/files/Chrono_Symphonic.torrent

Welcome to the official feedback thread of the OverClocked Remix Site Project, Chrono Symphonic. You may have heard of the project before; then again, you may have stumbled here by some other road. So let me give you a little synopsis, and tell you what this project is all about.

Chrono Symphonic is a project a long time in the making. Starting from the autumn days of October 2004, and ending in the wintry days of January 2006, it’s been a labor of love for everybody that has been a part of it. Initially designed to be the soundtrack for the long-desired Chrono Trigger movie (no, the movie doesn’t exist and probably never will), it encompasses 18 different artists' takes on the way such a film should sound in an orchestral setting, and many more on how it should look and feel. Never has such an abundance of talent been thrown into such a powerful calling, and never has the game Chrono Trigger, which many of us grew up playing, known so much love.

Basically, this is a project aimed at re-imagining Chrono Trigger the way it was imagined in its creators’ heads…a tale of love, and triumph, and struggling for the good of others while leaving your own inhibitions and fears behind. It’s the tale you’ve waited forever to hear…and now, you’re able to hear it.

Welcome to Chrono Symphonic, and enjoy your stay.

P.S. A special thanks goes to: StarZander for creating the Chrono Symphonic website; Compyfox for mastering the finished music; ZeaLitY and the Chrono Compendium for advertising and showing great faith in the project; Eon_Blue for his wonderful album art; pixietricks for being more than just a performer in almost all respects of the project; DarkeSword for his more-than-a-musician contributions to the project; Evilhead for translating the English lyrics into Japanese; VGDJ and Liontamer for super-pimping the project; DJP and the entire OCReMix community for listening and making this a worthwhile endeavor; and Yasunori Mitsuda, Nobuo Uematsu, Noriko Matsueda, and Squaresoft for producing a game and a soundtrack that have wrought many great things in the lives of its audience. Thanks.

  16. Awesome, SZ. Sorry about the puking and all...as Compy always says, "Murphy's Law", so...

PM/e-mail me back what times you're available today, when you have the site finished, and then I might be able to coordinate with DJP. And then...who knows.

Also, try and be on either AIM or IRC today. We'll get it working.

    ~.C.S.~

  17. Yeah, sorry again guys...StarZander didn't show up. Without the project website online, there can't be a release. And it's hard to work with six timezones between us, so...yeah. Again, sorry. Nothing to do but wait. And sleep, too. Sleep is always good.

    Good night, everyone. Thread unlocked.

    ~.C.S.~

  18. Unfortunately, considering that I won't have internet access the entire time the next few days (I'm currently at a Jameson Inn using a wireless connection, on my way to New York), I probably won't be able to announce the release previous to it happening. So the best I can tell you guys, and the best you're going to get, is that it SHOULD be the next two days, the 2nd or the 3rd. I have to wait until I, DJP, and SZ are all available at once, and then it will come out. Trust me, I want NOTHING more than to do this quickly. But we're gonna do it right too.

And also, Compy and I are mentally and emotionally done with people complaining or asking for something different than what they're getting. You're not paying for the privilege of hearing this, and you're not the ones that are sacrificing time and energy and other important aspects of your busy lives for doing this. And just because it's a Fan Project doesn't mean that you, the fans, have any say in how it happens. ISO is the release format of the Special Edition, that's that. I appreciate everyone that isn't badmouthing the decision, but to you others...please wrap it up.

And now back to other business...thanks to DarkeSword for deciding to keep the thread up and running during the SE release. Just wanted to say that.

    ~.C.S.~

  19. I believe of all the posts made when I was gone, DarkeSword's was the best. Thank you for doing that.

All you people have to do is wait. I have to pack up everything I own, drive 20 hours to New York, and still find time to release the thing. StarZander has to get the script running properly on the site, and make the website proper because IT'S THE OFFICIAL RELEASE AND IT NEEDS AN OFFICIAL SITE. And DJP needs to operate remotely as well, and we all three need to coordinate our efforts.

So as DS put it, stop whining. Larry's words from before still live on..."nobody will remember the delay, only the project itself." It won't kill/maim/injure/insult/hurt you to wait. So wait.

    ~.C.S.~

  20. Crap.

    From StarZander (the website guy):

I'm extremely sorry, but I can't make it. It's too little time. I made the script for the random link first, but then it didn't work properly. It opened the song in the browser instead of downloading it, and I couldn't change it no matter what I did. So I started encoding something else, more simple, but then I ran out of time. If I had known that the deadline for the website was New Years Eve, then things might have been different, but you never told me about that. I've been stressing all morning to get it all to work, but I just ran out of time. I have to hurry now, to catch my train. I will finish the website when I get back, on sunday, and then e-mail you. You will have to let everyone know the bad news, unfortunately. Blame me if you want, but I just ran out of time.

Well, you'll hear from me again in a few days, and sorry again for ruining the whole thing. I tried, atleast.

    New releasedate: January 2nd, 2006.

Sorry, guys. It'll have to be a few days late. Unfortunately. AGAIN.

    Argh.

    ~.C.S.~
