  1. Interesting rhythm in the bass at :27. One could hear it as a sort of syncopation, *but* as it's never really developed or heard again it seems out of place. The electric piano has something similar at :45, but in general I believe that rhythm would need to be further developed in order to really fit in well with the rest of the piece. Because right now it's something that many listeners would (understandably) hear as a mistake- and for all I know it is one.

0:37 - The echo/reverb highlights some juicy dissonances in the guitar and piano. Nice modern harmonies. In general however, I find the heavy reverb out of place for the genre.

Piece really takes off at 2:07 with some nice solo work. Interesting timbres with the bari/muted trumpet pairings as well.

I have a few minor quibbles, but overall I feel this is a pretty well done arrangement.

    YES

  2. Groovy little piece. Wonderful ska-esque guitar sound and the organ solo really rocks.

But...while shortness in and of itelf isn't bad, this particular piece feels very undeveloped. Developing the rhythms and melodies of this mix might have produced a much more satisfying sound, as is, it just feels a tad incomplete.

  3. If anyone thinks that music theory is about what kind of music is right or wrong, then that person doesn't know much theory.

Heh, judging from the reviews I was prepared to hear some sort of polytonal piece- but nothing of the sort. This is a very fun, upbeat and extremely well-sequenced...god that slap bass is incredible...piece.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed more of your work, I've enjoyed your mixes for quite some time now. Keep up the good work.

  4. I remember listening to this one awhile back on Mazedude's site and wondering if he was going to submit it to oc. I really like this, nice atmosphere and superb composition.

And check out his original stuff. I have alot of respect for Mazedude after hearing his 12-tone funk piece, anyone who can make 12-tone music sound so darn groovy is alright in my book. 8)

  5. That would be rather nice. Multisampled vowels and consonants for voice parts and then maybe for solo voices too. Although that would probably be way out of my price range and have annoyingly large samples spread out over a several CDs. Sorta like these new strings sample sets that are starting to come out. Good lord they're expensive. I'll just have to stick with what I've got I suppose.

But Sam Horns on the other hand look like a great buy.
