.ass file and Matroska video

I just finished downloading some videos but the subtitles are in Japanese. The torrent came with a WinRAR file full of English subs. I extracted the files, but I don't know what to do with them. The videos still only have an on/off option for the Jap subtitles.

So, what do I do with these .ass files so that I can watch these videos with English subtitles? Thanks.

Any media player worth its salt (like Media Player Classic hint hint) will load subtitle files automatically if they share the same filename as the target video file (excepting the extension)

so you should have

VIDEO_1.mkv

and

VIDEO_1.ass

for it to work
