Chaos in a Can
I've been trying to find/make a specific sound for quite some time, and my failure is probably due to the fact that I have no idea how to describe it. It's kind of like an airy pipe or gong with a lot of reverb. The sound I'm looking for can be heard at the very beginning of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Xg4FkuzFyQ or at about 3:45 in Disco Dan's Riptide OC ReMix. Does anyone know where I can find or how I can make this effect?
Yoozer
1. Take a microphone 2. Take two steel tubes 3. Start to record 4. Bang the tubes against eachother 5. Play back at half the speed or less 6. Add reverb The Korg M1 has this in its list of samples and it's called "Pole".
zircon
Pole doesn't sound quite like that (there is a scraping sound attached) but there are plenty of metal sounds like this in various percussion sample libraries.
abg
If you have Image-Line's "Ogun" (metallic synth vst) it can create similar sounds. The presets "Bellish 5", "Bellish 8", "Bellish 9" and "Bowl" sound a bit similar to the sounds you're describing. Just make sure to layer 'em with lots of reverb.
