Getting sounds from games

Hi, I've been trying to find sounds from the dkc games but with no luck. Does anyone know how lets say Protricity

did to get the ghost rope sound into his Forest Birdcussion mix? or in his mechanical swamp mix? Thank you in advance

if all else fails you could record them yourself if you run the game in an emulator on the PC... you can disable individual channels of sound in the emulator so that the music will not mess up your recording etc
