This mix was inspired by a Street Fighter II month at the Dwelling of Duels. Rather than do one of the common themes covered by many, I chose to take the 18 second intro and try to turn it into a lengthy and enjoyable remix experience. To do this I had to add a lot of my own new melodies that fit well with the original, all while reinjecting familiar parts of the original back in so you don't lose the theme.

Only 2:22, but so oh sweet. It is pretty conservative for the first 0:27 and the uses of that section thereafter, but a new backing guitar part helps differentiate it. But what I love is how he adapts the chords to a minor key and solos like a crazy person over it, referencing the melody occasionally. Very cool stuff, that Chris makes sound easy. I suppose someone might think that the new and source elements are too separated, but I think there's just enough peanut butter in the chocolate and vice versa, so to speak.

The song is a little soft and it might have been better with the backing instruments brought up, but I feel fine passing this. If y'all agree this is passable as is, I can e-mail Chris afterward to see if he is willing to make any tweaks.

Clean and crisp production, but it is a little quiet. I wouldn't object to it being brought up a bit. Good humanization on the drums, and a good sound balance.

Arrangement is definitely on the short side, but there is some good personalization with the backing parts, and a completely blistering solo. Nice guitar tone, and great technique make this a really nice track to loop while driving. Harmonies were solid, and tight. I'm down with this one. :-)

You'll have an easier time bumping up the level if you compress those drums. right now they sound real thin. Also, more bass. wtf. I know metal doesn't draw a lot of attention to the bass, but I barely hear it, and I'm not even completely sure it's not just the rhythm guitar.

NO, Resub

compress drums, bring up bass.

I think this is a pretty sick performance and a great remix in general, but I agree that Vig makes good points in that the drums lack proper power. That could easily be fixed though. The bass is a little quiet, but I'd be fine with just the drums being boosted if that's all we got.

I guess I'll take the initiative and go ahead and see if Chris can boost the drums and maybe a little of the bass.

I'm pretty much a YES for now anyway, but I would like more beef on the drums.

*EDIT*

Just emailed Chris about boosting the drums and bass. We'll see what he says. Let's hold until then.
