Meteo Xavier
I got something weird in my email today and I didn't know if anyone else knew what it might be. Email reads as follows: "Hi Meteo Xavoer, ScarlettPrestonciP3SX has requested to follow you on Playlist.com. We need to confirm that you want ScarlettPrestonciP3SX to follow you on playlist.com. To confirm this follower request, click the link below: http://www.playlist.com/user/10859665/connections/confirm! Thanks! — The Playlist.com Team This message was intended for Meteo Xavoer. Want to control which emails you receive from playlist.com? Go to: http://www.playlist.com/user/10859665/edit! Check out our latest featured playlists at Playlist.com: http://www.playlist.com/features Check up on our blog: http://www.playlist.com/siteblog Follow us on Twitter: http://twitter.com/projectplaylist Fan us on Facebook: http://facebook.com/playlistdotcom Friend us on MySpace: http://myspace.com/playlist". My name is misspelled twice, neither Meteo Xavoer nor this user appears on Google, the user is recognized as the same handle as "do-not-reply@support.projectplaylist.net" and I'm pretty sure I've never signed up for an account on playlist.com or projectplaylist.com. Does anyone else have an idea what this might be?
Moseph
Well ... spam?
Meteo Xavier
It's not spam I've ever seen.
Moseph
If they're a new startup, they may be selectively spamming musicians who have publicly listed names/email addresses in order to get more members.
Zipp
I concur. And, because this message is too short... I concur again.
Sinewav
They probably went around looking for artist names and entered them into a list manually so they could copypasta it into the spam later. Your's likely just got typo'd.
Meteo Xavier
That seems pretty reasonable an explanation. I still don't want to click the link, but that makes more sense.
Nabeel Ansari
That seems pretty reasonable an explanation. I still don't want to click the link, but that makes more sense. The link just takes you to a page where they ask you to log in or register on playlist.com. It's not even worth clicking.
