Hy Bound
HEy guys, so i just bought a profire 610 audio-interface/preamp. The problem is, i just found out i have a billion USB ports, but no firewire port... I also don't have a spare PCI slot, so adding in a card with firewire is out of the question. Anyone know another solution to this?
AMT
Nope, as far as I know there's no way to get Firewire to work over USB. Even if you did, it would be a huge bottleneck and incredibly slow. Adding a PCI card is the easiest option, but outside of that, getting a different motherboard with Firewire is going to be your only other option. Nabeel Ansari
Well that was a purchase fail... You could remove something that you don't need that's cloggin up a PCI slot, but other than that it's either new mobo or no go.

PrototypeRaptor
WTF! how can i not have a firewire port... god firewire is the worst thing ever - you won't need it till you don't have it, and when you get it, it won't work when you need it. /bad experiences rant go with usb, man, go with usb... I personally like firewire. Less CPU overhead and more expandable. That said it is finicky. If you have a desktop it's no big deal, you can just by a card with a TI chipset in it and you are good. Laptops you are more or less screwed unless you get a Macbook or a 'pro audio' laptop. Anyways OP, take a look at the Fast Track Ultra 8R.
