Arab/Middle Eastern music?

I've been branching out of my usual genres/styles/language(s) lately and stumbled upon Tarkan. Some of his work has a Middle Eastern style that reminds me of the "classical" Egyptian music I grew up with (the organic instruments, rhythms, syncopation, and raw emotion perhaps stemming from the fact that I do not speak Arabic or, in Tarkan's case, Turkish) and some of his work mixes these qualities with a more Western and synthesized sound (which I like).

Anyway, just wondering if anybody here has found any interesting and contemporary Arab/Middle Eastern artists/bands that they like. Let's try to stay more modern than Umm Kalthum, Abdel Halim Hafiz, Farid al-Atrash, etc (though if you're not familiar with them, you could totally brush up on your 20th century Arab music history).
