mickomoo
I want to write orchestral music and occasionally maybe big band style music. Is there a package versatile enough to offer both. Or should I focus on getting two really good sets. I'm currently looking into EWQL and Kontakt sax and brass but honestly if there are any more economical alternatives I'd like to look into them
dannthr
Economics aside, Broadway Big Band is probably the quitessential Big Band Set. Do Classical/Cinematic articulations cross-over with Big Band? Somewhat, but not really. Sample-Modeling's The Trumpet, The Trombone, and the Sax Brothers are great for both Jazz/Big Band and Orchestral work, but they're really unusually flexible as far as libraries go. Lesser offerings include Vir2 Mojo: Horns, Screaming Trumpets, First Call Horns, Kontakt's Sax and Brass, etc, etc...
Tensei
+1 for Sample modeling stuff. I've had people mistake The Trumpet for a live instrument several times before.
