Blake
You know what I'm talking about. Beats to any modern movie soundtrack involving a terrorist, Metal Gear Solid, or Hans Zimmer's stuff in The Rock. Try 3:46 of Reuben Kee's first MGS mix. Exactly what instruments form the higher end of those beats? I know the lower end is just a bunch of bass drum hits, but are the top instruments snares, shakers, or what? zircon
Nowadays, I would just get Stylus RMX. It's got tons of processed loops that are just what you would want for this sort of thing. Hi hats, synth blips, shakers, tambourines, electronically generated percussion, all sorts of stuff can contribute to the sound you're talking about. Cerrax
I would guess its some kind of processed hat. I've done a few songs with processed hi hats that have acheived a sound much like the one you are talking about. Bass drum and toms provide the booming accents while a simple 16 beat hi hat vigorously keeps the pace up.
