What is the correct pronunciaton of Marle's name from Chrono Trigger?

I had always assumed it was "Marl" with a silent 'e'.

Recently I've had reason to think it over more thoroughly, and given that sounds particularly odd, I was wondering if "Marle" is just a bad translation, indicating the Japanese "Mare" or "Marre" since there isn't technically an "L" in Japanese. Now if it were Marre, that would become something like "Mary" in English.

There's also "Marlay" or possibily "Marli" if you assume the "E" is not silent.

So, I was curious if there's an official stated pronunciation, or if not, what the purveying thought is on that.
