Using electronics in foreign countries

For spring Break, I am going to China. Terra Cotta soldiers and the great wall only hold my tiny attention span for so much time. My friends claims when he went to China, he was able to successfully use a U.S. N64 without it exploding or whatnot. So is the urban legend true?

I'd be more worried about it getting stolen than it frying due to substandard power generation.

You just have to make sure that you know what the voltage rating is over there. Each country has it standardized, but not necessarily with one another. For example, most American electronics can be used in Japan because of the similar voltage rating and vice versa. Personally, I think that you will need either a step-down or step-up transformer and also an adapter for your plug as well. I've never been to China before, I can't give you any more details.
