Lunahorum
I was browsing through the presets of a synth I downloaded and it has the following acronyms on the presets and I was wondering if I could have some help figuring them out. arp - arpeggio totc - ? (it comes at the end of the preset name) tc - ? (again at end of name) mc - ? (again at end of name) va - ? (again at end of name) dj - ? (again at end of name) atm - atmosphere atmo - atmosphere bas - bass gate - gated sequence kbd - ?keyboard? key - ? organ maybe? led - ?lead or solo tone? pad - pad same as atmosphere I think rym - ?rythm? What's the difference between this and gate? sfx - sound effects syn - ?synthesizer? This isn't very important at all and is not a big deal. I was just curious and couldn't find the answer in the guidebook or google.
zircon
TOTC = TOTCProductions, a guy that makes synth presets. In other words, it's just the name of the designer. TC = Tim Conrardy, another preset designer. VA = Virtual Analog, probably refers to standard subtractive-style sounds. However, could be a preset designer. DJ/MC = Probably preset designers. KBD/KEY = Keyboard (generally refers to stuff that you can play like a keyboard instrument, eg. higher polyphony) SYN = Synthesizer (not a very helpful designation, but probably refers to generally synthy sounds) RYM = Rhythm, could represent a patch that is played percussively, eg. a tom, bongo, snare, etc. Alternatively, a rhythmic sequence of some kind. Yoozer
tc - ? (again at end of name) mc - ? (again at end of name) va - ? (again at end of name) dj - ? (again at end of name) Name of the designer. This habit was started on the Virus and Waldorf Q IIRC. kbd - ?keyboard? key - ? organ maybe? Also piano, rhodes, other EPs. rym - ?rythm? What's the difference between this and gate? First guess would be that rhythm would be (synthetic) percussive in timbre, while gate only means that it's gated. syn - ?synthesizer? Synthetic or Sync (the latter referring to oscillator sync) Synth presets may also contain puns on existing instruments (Whirly, Roads), alternative names (Suitcase 73, Full Stops, Operators), the name of famous songs (Knife Edge (ELP)), artist names (Micro-X has a combi called "gnivil si erraJ") or puns on that (Sleepless (Faithless' "Insomnia") on the Roland XP series).
