I mentioned Theatrhythm in our last mixpost writeup, and apparently Xaleph heard me from the distance. :-P Originally created as part of the hubbub surrounding DarkeSword's inaugural Game Set Mash!! compo, we have a psytrance feast from chef Xaleph: a main course of FF6 along with a heaping helping of FF8! Xaleph made this to get his music played by even MORE club DJs, while *I* can't even get "Toyota Disco" played by one, jeez:

"I wrote this for a bonus track for the GSM competition. I played around with it and it was a pretty neat mashup combination. I turned the "Terra" theme into a diminished chord and took some of "Under Her Control" and created a rhythm from that. Beaker voice quotes, so they're public domain.

After seeing how some mixes used "The Muu Dream Machine", and talking to some of the DJs, they were asking for a lead-in or an outro to easily mix it. As a result, I tried to focus more on club-based/progressive psytrance, which is why it ends in a simple beat (so it can be mixed in). Although I wrote this in a week, I did end up going back and making minor modifications. We need more "Terra" mixes anyways, so I figured this would help."

We ALWAYS want more "Terra"; it used to be at the tippy top of OCR's most ReMixed themes list, and Xaleph's bumped it back up to tied for 2nd place! (It's a contest you see, various source themes locked in mortal combat to determine which one's the most inspirational to the community. OK, FINE... let's be serious again.) This does take some very transformative turns with "Terra" in places, so it had judge Chimpazilla wanting to sanity check the source tune references. But once we sussed that out in Xaleph's favor, she was easily on the YES side of the ledger:

"Ooooooooooooo. This is some truly excellent psytrance! Tons of variation in writing, sounds, energy, beat, vibe, transitions, breakdowns and drops. Mixing and mastering are top notch. The arrangement of the two themes is seamless and creative. [...] Super easy pass from me. Really nicely done track, I'm digging it."

Xaleph's musicianship and production was never in question, so we judges were all collectively impressed by his dynamic writing, including prophetik music:

"filtro intro is great. sounds so good. and the initial hit sounds great too. i believe, if i'm not mistaken, that the synth work at 0:43 is the terra theme in a diminished chord instead of minor, with the last part inverted. it's essentially the same elements that show up at 1:12, but with a vertically inverted element.

the shift at 1:38 is great, tons of extra energy from the 16th patterns here. the section at 2:17 is cleverly done.

there's a bit of a break at 2:32 and it's back into a new beat at 2:35 for a bit before some sfx bring us through to a big break section with some rich pads and synced leads at 3:23. 4:23 brings us to the last major section, mostly Terra-heavy, and then it's done with some kicks. [...]

this is excellent. [...] superb job."

Are we in some sort of streak for Final Fantasy club music?!? Sad to say, but no, no, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Our next ReMix is DECIDEDLY different, so the club is closing up for now. But of course, YOU can keep the FF club jams going -- just loop Xaleph's scintillating psytrance here along with Pixel Pirates' FF7 mix, some FFmusic Dj, and how about some bLiNd FF4, sure, and keep it jumpin' all night long! :-)

Where is the "they're impulsive, and unpredictable" clip from? It's familiar but I can't work it out.

I'm not sure if it was V2 or V3 - it was one of them.

The underlying Quad beat of this is incredibly groovy. I may or may not have danced to this.
