  1. Heavy atmospheric fare, about par for the course with zircon, though that's not a bad thing in the slightest.

I am a bit curious about such a quick turnaround in the posting though, considering how long tracks are lingering in the panel. Does zirc get some special "straight to the site" privileges or something?

djpretzel can "direct post" a mix at any time - an option reserved only for submissions which clearly demonstrate they meet the site standards for arrangement and production. The judges panel is swamped enough as is, so it would be a pain to have to spend time voting on songs that will be unanimously passed. (zircon often gets direct posted because he's one of those remixers that has a very strong grasp on the site standards. But plenty of others are DP'ed as well!)

In this particular instance, Dave posted our mix quickly for two reasons: 1) The remix project for bLiNd was completed, and considering Jordan's rapid progress it makes more sense to announce the community effort sooner rather than later. 2) Our OCR panel at Otakon is coming up Saturday, and the song is going to be previewed among several others in a demo medley of games/genres we have on the site.

Andy and I are both really glad to have been a part of this coming together for bLiNd. He has given this community SO much, and deserves every bit of that back. I know it sounds cheesy, but just when I thought I knew everything there was to know about the people around here... they come out and surprise you with something as awesome as this project. I think we all need that reminder sometimes. :>

  2. Douli's got a nice collection going. I think you can find the link to it in his sig.

Hmm, no linky. He's got stuff for removed ocremixes and his website, but I couldn't find the tans on either.

  3. Does anyone have archived all the previous finished versions of the various OCR-tan incarnations? I'd like to put together an image displaying a bunch of different ones, for Otakon.

  4. How long does the quarterfinals last?

Four days. Then semifinals are two days, and finals are ooooone 24 hour period.

Congrats, soc! And glad to see jewbei made it again this month. None of my songs (except the collab with Andy) got up there this time around, and the same thing happened to Audix and sgx. It does vary. But you can bet I'll still be voting to support you guys!

  5. That might work out REALLY good! Some of us are so close to finishing up, or at least I am. Can you please do that?

Ya, ya, ya! We're also making very rapid progress. Could *possibly* finish tonight, but most likely tomorrow. It would help to have the full weekend, since some of us had to work during the week. (And Jade asked for us, so it would stink to miss the cutoff!)

  6. Are you going to be horribly biased when judging the remixes btw? Like, checking who made it and whatnot?

It would be an unnecessary hassle to devise an anonymous submitting system, so I will know who made the remixes. But I'd never lean towards any particular artist because I know them, or know of them.

This is one reason that I said ALL entries will be considered for future releases. ^-^ Some heavy genre like metal, hip hop, or happy hardcore could theoretically win the contest based on the three criteria I cited, but may never be added to one of my albums because it doesn't fit in terms of style. A low key new age one, on the other hand, may be a better candidate for future releases, but not actually win if it isn't as well made. Make sense?

I will be picking my favorites based on the creativity, production, and musicality indicators. That being said, if I get a bunch of equally creative, polished submissions for the same song... I would probably lean towards the one that would be best suited for mutual promotion. Basically: if our genres are so vastly different that fans of either artist would skip over the news out of indifference - or disgust, haha! - that isn't exactly ideal. But they could still be just different enough to attract attention or curiosity... So NOBODY SHOULD BE DISCOURAGED from doing something in a genre they enjoy and excel with.

Also, since there's no limit to ammount of entries.. is it possible to win in more than one category?

It's certainly possible, but unlikely. I think there will be a large enough pool of awesome entries to avoid repeat winners.
