  1. Man this is absolutely amazing! Very beautiful track. I'm not sure if liked both your kick and snare. Try experimenting with another set (things that go well with Chillout style with snare having a little more reverb/delay).

Having said that, even if you don't change that, I'd still love it. excellent work!

  2. I'm finally done with this mix, and I kept Chrono Cross ending with some improvisation. I think I'm happy with how it sounds. Now, totally open for suggestions and feedback before handing over to judges. I can definitely use another pair of ears here because I've heard it so many times since yesterday and fearing I might be overlooking something.

Kuolema: Thanks for your comments man! Glad you liked it.

    Final Version: 'Flaming Hearts'

  3. Not sure if I overdid the fusion, but this is what I have as a wip2. I'd appreciate if someone can take a listen and let me know if it makes any sense or not. I just took bits and pieces from the sources to come up with my mix. I probably will get rid of Chrono Cross ending and will come up with something else. "Time's Scar" deserves an individual mix and not just tiny bits. You don't have to listen to sources if you don't want to. Just let me know if the fusion feels natural or disjointed. Is it fun to listen to?

Please note that the mix is not done yet. I have to add some synth arpeggios here and there and write proper ending which is missing from this wip atm. Also need to re-EQ.

  4. This is really close to the source. That being said, it does sound quite nice. The guitar playing is really solid.

Thanks! Although it does sound close to the source but I think not as much to go OCR non-compliant. Besides, this is what was playing in my mind. I am thinking of fusing it with another mix to extend it to a full song. Hopefully, I'll be able to come up with something worth submitting.

(btw, I updated it slightly (still calling it wip1) but since you liked the guitars, I thought of introducing some more... :))

  5. First thing, if you're not familiar with Elemental Master, check it out, not only it has some really awesome music but it also is not a bad game at all. It's on Sega Genesis btw.

Just started this mix and not even sure how I will manage to create a 4 minute mix out of this but I'll try. So far, it's just a minute long. Just a rough concept, I'd like to find out if you guys like this style. It is a bit unusual but should feel familiar at the same time :)

  6. I was really surprised to see this mix getting a NO. I think it can perfectly fit in not only in a slow paced Sonic level but can serve as an excellent RPG town music.

I'm not a fan of Sonic "3D Blast" music but the lead doesn't feel like too much of a lead (maybe because of too many repetitions). Maybe you'd want to introduce an original piece somewhere in between to break the repeating lead. I don't know; I love it as it is.

  7. So DjMystix's Lady in Black remix was accepted, which is awesome, but it sounds like it's going to be posted as a Bayonetta remix according to Larry. So through sheer technicality, OCR STILL isn't going to have After Burner on the game list. SO CLOSE. :(

    Thanks!

It was my fault. I asked them to decide for themselves which game they want to accept it for. The problem was, the remix (including the title) was written with Bayonetta in mind whereas the source tune is totally from After Burner. So a little bit of injustice done to the original track.

But then again, the judges review thread says "Bayonetta & After Burner". Not sure what they are going to do.

  8. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a sample of that "unh" sound effect that happens in the streets of rage boss tune. I tried to sample it myself but the music kept getting in the way. :S

I'm also working on a SoR mix which requires many sounds from the game. Here's what I do, run the game via emulator, open any audio editing tool (I use sound forge) and record the sample as you play it from the options screen. I'm not sure if that "unh" sound is available individually.

If I complete my sounds set, I will share it with you.

  9. Sweet God, my ears! Turn that sine wave down, please, it's very painful to listen to right now.

    ...

Fix the sine. I can give it a proper listen + critique after that, but I can't listen to this without risking my mixing ears, as it is :-|.

Your warnings sure were enough but I still wasn't prepared for this. The synth is "dangerous" at this time. You're also right about background instruments being too loud.

Also, why start the lead from the first beat of the measure? Maybe change it back to 3rd beat to make more sense, but that's up to you.

  10. I have a small suggestion, you have too many high frequency synths playing at the same time. Not a bad thing but it makes it a bit difficult to concentrate on the track. Why don't you replace some of them with something low? Plus it's very hard to grasp the "pattern" of the track as it currently sounds. Some of those glitches felt out of place/timing.

Also, even with so much stuff happening, I felt it wasn't able to provide any atmosphere. To solve this, either introduce some ambiance fx or introduce more low frequency stuff to fill in those quite places.

Plus you should've got a lot of suggestions from the evaluation, right? Better fix those first :D

    Best of luck!

  11. Personally I try to desecrate the source as much as possible in my remixes, so that the original can never be heard the same way by the listener again.

This applies to the track "02 - Shifting Islands" which leads me to these questions:

    1. On what criteria did you choose those 5 tracks that were posted on OCR frontpage?

    2. Why wasn't "Shifting Islands" one of those 5 tracks?

don't get me wrong, all those tracks were awesome but I just absolutely loved this one. If I ever remix a track from Sonic 1, I'll remix this mix.

    EDIT:

Just listened to it a millionth time. God I love it!!!
