Okay I haven't read other comments until now but I really want to say that the sudden off note at 1:10 (again at 2:39) is genius! Do not ever get rid of it (pretty please)! It was this part that blew me away since I wasn't expecting it
-
Absolutely amazing! This is going to by on my list of top 10 OCR mixes once completed/posted.
-
Woah woah, tell us more about this!
Well, not really some long paragraphs but very nice compliments from their twitter accounts
-
Thank you everyone for the lovely comments. I totally forgot about updating this thread (sorry about that). The mix has been submitted some time ago. We are super happy with the feedback we got so far; we also got some great feedback from Konami, Kojima/Suda51.
oh, and Happy New Year everyone! Here's hoping Desmond finds the grand temple, gets the last piece of eden and stop the templers/doomsday before Dec. 21, 2012

Amazing, gorgeous, fantastic! Beautiful guitar work and love that excellent bass which feel like carrying the whole mix throughout. Great work! Man I could really use those guitar skills in my mixes!
-
Im afraid to ask why XD
What worries me even more is that the pace of posting mixes (from the TO BE POSTED list) is even slower (Well I know the answer to that already: With a new album, special entry jumping in between more frequently etc.)
-
Are you on about actually intentionally cameoing it, or just taking inspiration from that rhythm/chord sequence? Because in a way I don't think you can avoid the latter, everyone does it.
I almost, always try to come up with new styles but just once, I actually wanted to do Ice Cap mix with just about everything taken from "Smooth Criminal" as inspiration. Don't think it'll be accepted though
-
The Best Is Yet To Come is one of my favorite songs of all time. I too wish for someone to do a piano version of it O__O
mine too. I'm trying to come up with something but not piano, a full vocal track:
-
"The Best Is Yet To Come" is one of my favorite videogame tracks of all time. In my last mix, I tried so hard to include it but it did't make sense. So now I'm back with another MGS mix but this time, including bits of Assassin's Creed as well. Once again, this is going to be a full blown vocal tracks but for now, you'll have to deal with crappy samples and ripped vocals from source:
Rough Draft:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3443029/My%20Remixes/WIP/MGS_Draft.mp3
- The bad choir sample at 00:30 is just a placeholder and will be replaced by real vocals
- "The Best Is Yet To Come" needs to be recorded by a vocalist
- Most instruments are placeholders at the moment, including drums. I just wanted to get the idea out so I can collect thoughts.
I always thought that a slightly changed chord pattern can really boost the emotions of this track so I've added a lot of new chords here. Let's see if I can find someone to sing this one as well so I can complete it.

wow! incredible mix! One of the best orchestral arrangements on the site!
-
Awezome!!! I always wanted to remix GIJOE (NES). This mix is friggin epic! Excellent work!
-
This is great work! Once again, I'm not a fan of metal (and Halo) but I loved it! The strings really pull your heart out. The guitars sounded awesome! Overall, it has a very epic feel. Highly enjoyable

I'm all done with this mix and just have finished uploading the music video:
'Innocent Deception':
Hope you enjoy the video It's mostly aimed at people who are familiar with the story. Whenever I remember Snake Eater's story, it just breaks my heart. I don't think any game in my entire life has been able to have such an impact on me.
I'm going to submit it soon too

Thanks for the previous answer. Another question (two actually):
1. Is it acceptable to use a non-videogame song's background stuff (drums, bass etc.) as a backdrop for a videogame arrangement? e.g. using rhythm/pattern of "Smooth Criminal" as a style for Ice Cap remix? (By "use", I mean arrange the style not just sample it)
2. Is it acceptable to include non-videogame songs as part of a videogame mix? (maybe a verse or two)

Nice work! The guitar needs a bit of a reverb to be more convincing. Also, once everything starts, it gets difficult to keep up with rhythm. I think there are a few things that has too much reverb in there, causing the beats to sound timed-out (I know it isn't). Maybe also adjust velocity of a few layers (sounds overpowering atm)
Overall, it sounds great. looking forward to next update

Thank you so so much for the awesome comments! The track is finally finished and ready to be shipped to the panel.

Claire certainly has well exceeded all the expectations I had for this track. I am inclined to say that her vocals made this track 100 times better than I could possibly achieve on my own. What an amazing voice work!
I better book you for future tracks before you start getting requests left and right and I never get my turn again
-
oh hell yes! I was just listening to Koudelka soundtrack a few days back. I actually like the regular battle music and wasn't a big fan of the boss battles. (Man what an amazing story Koudelka had!)
I like the track, am sooooo tired now to focus (3:00 AM here) so can't provide detailed feedback. I like the approach and think it sounds very nice. no immediately noticeable complains though
I really want to see some Koudelka mixes posted on OCR!

Quick question: does this game have traditional controls?
I generally enjoyed Skyward Sword (not the best Zelda in my personal opinion, but a good entry in the franchise all the same), but I'm just as happy to never play a motion controlled game again if I can avoid it. I want to get Xenoblade partially because I know it to be a solid game and partially to show Nintendo that it has fans who want this type of content and will actually shell out the cash for it if they make it available without importing it. If it has traditional controls, that makes it infinitely more appealing.
Oh yes, it supports the classic controller. and I totally, totally recommend it becuase it looks like the game was designed for classic controller use. With motion controls, you can't adjust the camera freely/easily.
seriously guys, DO NOT play this game without classic controller (good thing you brought up the question)

Thank you everyone for the lovely comments! Claire has completed her vocals part and has been very creative with improvisation and also added some background vocal elements as well.
WIP5 (Claire's vocals):
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3443029/My%20Remixes/WIP/SnakeEater_wip5.mp3
I was blown away with the quality, power, range and beauty of her voice so I shared it immediately. What's left is to add a few layers to fill in some vocal gaps and final mixing of the track. Hope you guys like it. I personally love Claire's vocals!
and yes I am aware that it is originally from Policenauts but since we're doing an MGS only remix, I didn't put it as a source.
-
Great news indeed. This game deserves all the attention/praises. IMO, it's the absolute best JRPG ever made! (provided you subtract the nostalgia element attached to FFVI, VII, CHRONO etc.). The only complain I have is the battle system, just not as great as I was expecting; but very enjoyable.
From the trailer, it looks like they haven't re-recorded dialogs for American release..... then why the hell they waited for so long!!!???
-
Not marking it as finished yet but the whole arrangement is done and only waiting for vocals and final mixing.
Here's the final arrangement (still includes Cynthia Harrell's vocals ripped from the source):
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3443029/My%20Remixes/WIP/SnakeEater_wip3.mp3
I've fixed what I could and adjusted everything I wanted. So its all open for comments/suggestions/feedback etc. until we get a vocalist to do her part. I especially would like to find out if ending makes sense..... or not.
EDIT:
Claire Yaxley has agreed to provide her vocals for this. I think she has the perfect voice (and range) for this track
-
I'm surprised no one worked on such a great source. Anyway, I have something going on but still in need of a vocalist:
-
Thanks guys! Glad you enjoyed it so far I now have an almost finished track. I still have to add a few more layers and do a final mixing once I have some vocals to work with. The key change at 3:36 needs some more convincing transition but that too, depends on how the vocals will sound during that part. The ending also needs a bit of a work too.
WIP2 (Almost finished):

Any complains/suggestions/comments arrangement wise? I hope I can find someone soon to complete this track!

EDIT: Found someone
Hey there!
I'm actively looking for someone who can work with me on my new track and record "her" vocals for "Snake Eater" from MGS3 (as close to the original as possible):
Here's a rough draft of the mix I'm working on:
