same old dog, same old tricks.

  2. i get paid friday, so if anyone has an available 4pack slot i'd like to get in on it... admittedly grudgingly since we already KNOW the game in and out (excepting the new boss and unique-common infected). the thought of new campaigns really tickles me and i'd love to play them when they're fresh for everyone.

  3. odin made me and jon (languish) play demigod earlier this year. it was kinda OK except that it was horribly imbalanced, and you could zoom out to infinity and see the whole map. also, only 8 characters to choose from????? totally sucked.

  4. there is a LOT of physics going on, so there is definite slowdown when destroying buildings, and i noticed a little in the Oasis sector where there is a lot of foliage on the ground, but i'm also using middle-range settings (1024x768, shadows/shafts off, medium models and textures). i've heard that on most up-to-date rigs there is little or no slowdown whatsoever though so you can keep that in mind too. Of course, the game WAS designed for console.

PS don't think of this as a pc only topic :V

PPS Gollgagh i'm not certain but he may be referring to the steam special with prepurchasing RFG coming with RF1 and 2 for free? Oddly enough both RF and RF2 pages still have the message but the RFG page doesn't :V

  5. totally sucks that geomod 2 doesn't support destroying terrain, but i feel that restricting destruction to buildings only helped to keep the focus on combat and guerrilla strategy. if you could just tunnel underneath a high priority target and destroy the ground underneath the foundations you'd still destroy the buildings, but it wouldn't necessarily be in line with the original design specs... although it WOULD be nice to reshape some of those mountains, particularly when the EDF has a convoy running inside a canyon :V

  6. sup guys, bought the game through steam shortly after it was available for prepurchase, and i was wondering if anyone else picked up the game for the PC. I wouldn't mind getting some multiplayer games in some time, but i don't feel too comfortable pubbing. Although it's available on steam, it actually uses the games for windows live for DRM and matchmaking.

Some of the reviews have said that the PC port is even better than the initial console launch, Reactor Zero have done a GREAT job and surpassed my expectations by far (considering how abysmal the port of Saints Row 2 was in comparison, but IIRC that was ported by a different company). They even added in some new graphical effects (sunlight shafts and i think some sort of dynamic shadowing) and apparently the game supports ridiculous screen resolutions. Of course, i've got a lower-mid range rig so I get some slowdown in the thick of destruction at moderate settings, but generally the game performs well. Also, there is already a modding community assembling and although Volition won't release any tools or support modding, it at least gives a nod to the community by allowing them to use the RF website forums to assemble, so hopefully there will be some cool fan content in the future. My only hope for the game is supporting the PC version with DLC (either PC exclusive or ports of anything they make for the consoles-- the first two DLC packs were included for free and there are a couple of pc exclusive mp maps iirc).

also the soundtrack is available on the itunes (i THINK) and amazon mp3 stores. i'm holding off with hopes that there will be an actual CD release, but if not i'll probably pick up the digital download to support virt's career. the music is really good, although it is very easy to ignore the music when the action is really intense. But when it sneaks up on you, it's like BAM!

  7. darkcecil13 and i have an open spot or two for people who don't care if they sleep on the floor or timeshare the bed/s or something, reserved for four nights, thursday-through-sunday, checking out on monday. talk with me on irc or something if you want to work something out.

ps vilecat the rooms are actually assigned on a first-come first-serve basis, so basically if you get in early you can request a double bed at registration and they'll switch you up at no cost. that's how i've done it the past two years anyway, i doubt they'd change to spite you :V

edit: talked with yosho, he's taken the spot with his uncle (those of you who play heroes of newerth know honest) as a tentative possible fourth (and final) spot, tbd at a later date.

  8. i just wanted to mention that while a few of us may sit idle with the game running (usually tensei), the easiest way to set up a game is through IRC (either in #ocremix or #ocrhon on irc.enterthegame.com), second easiest would be talking through steam, feel free to add me and poke me there because most of the time i'm at my computer i'm either already playing HoN or i'm playing TF2.

on another note, we just had a great 4v4, the matchup was pretty balanced until lategame when i started to actually be useful and stop feeding bardic and baha :)

edit: oops yep i completely got the two games mixed up!

  9. I'm not 100% certain but i think we can still do SD with all heroes turned off. it may not be as fun to do it while there are still heroes being introduced and are not all completely balanced though. Hopefully as launch nears we'll see some actual changes to address some of issues with the definitely overpowered heroes (the ones that zircon has been placing in his God tier).

also is anyone any good with valkyrie? i've had major trouble using her because her stun is really hard to hit with?

  10. yeah i'm absolutely retarded. i think what we'll need to do is have a third party play 'cameraman' and stream the video from their computer through something like VLC to tensei and brushfire, as well as record the stream so we could sync up the commentary with the camera work. alternatively we could record the camerawork before hand but it would take away from some of the spontaneity of a "live recording."

  11. i seem to recall anosou torturer and celly behemoth for my first five or six matches. everyone else sorta had a revolving door of picks

also it seems that the sql server that stores all of the login information is being hammered right now, can't log into the beta site or in game. :\

edit: oh, it seems there is planned downtime at 10 am central for an hour. thxu tensei for the infoz :)

  12. hey guys, brushfire agreed to cast with tensei if we had videos recorded of the replays. i'd rather one of you two do the recording so that the commentary remains funky fresh and the results aren't spoiled for everyone, but i might be able to figure something out soon enough. the only issue afterward would be streaming the video to both guys for recording and reacting to one another but we can cross that hurdle sooner or later.

also the second tournament should NOT be run by me, i'm terrible at managing my time... but i suppose i could do it :V
