  1. Well, I haven't been on to play some CS since Starcraft 2 came out, but I do still want to get on for some games with people from here (and on the OCR server). Unfortunately, I am moving this weekend and the company I'm going with for internet decided they can't give me any until August 10th. So I will have no internet connection with which to play with anyone for at least that long, and to top it off I may start working some wierd hours soon so I don't know when I'll get to play. I'll try to get on when I can once I do have internet, and can hopefully join in for any scheduled events after that.
  2. I may be able to play for a bit later tonight. Probably be on around 8:30 or 9:00 EST if anyone else can make it on.
  3. Thank god. I really wondered if I was just crazy about pretty much every weapon feeling off since the update. On the downside I'll probably have to relearn the weapons all over again. On the upside, I might get my ability to headshot with the AK back. And it's kind of short notice, but is anyone up for a game tonight at about 9:00 EST? I'll be on then either way and at least hang out in the server for a bit to see if anyone shows.
  4. I assume he's talking about the sort of trackball where it's larger and you move it with your thumb rather than the kind with it on the bottom of the mouse. I've actually heard people say it's accurate, and a lot faster once you get used to it.
  5. Were I an admin Derrit I would have insta-banned them personally since I have no patience for that crap. I actually tried to vote ban but everyone else was vote kicking. I was kind of surprised the vote didn't go through to be honest. Don't take this as me showing any interest in being an admin though. I don't have the time required to do it well (and once I start my regular hours at my new job I may not be able to play much at all).
  6. Had a couple of hackers show up tonight: {HU} Brownies and Swisha something or other. The latter left not long after I did so I'm not sure of his full screen name and I'm not 100% sure he was hacking as I didn't get to spec him at all. Brownies was definitely hacking though. I didn't message Powerlord or any other admin since we could vote kick if needed and both seemed to stop once people started to try and votekick, but it was still pretty annoying. I'm just wondering if we should make some of the CS regulars admins or just rely on messaging those who don't frequent the server if needed? The former would probably be easiest for the admins who don't frequent the CS server, but I figured I'd ask for thoughts on it.
  7. I'd be installing if the Steam servers weren't being dicks. Anyway, I'll be up for some organized play once they decide to let me download the game.
  8. As usual, anything is fundamentally flawed if atmuh wants to over simplify it. Payload: Defense can just spam one spot. CP: Defense can just spam one spot. Of course if all you do in either case is spam one point then you're a moron and will lose. Clearing the defense so you can push the cart is every bit as important as clearing the defensive line so you can cap the point in a CP map, and the defense obviously can't just devote all of their attention on one spot and hope to win.
  9. Back in those days though, a 300+ ping was actually playable (unless you were trying to snipe in TFC anyway). It wasn't until people started getting these damn high speed connections that that really changed. Anyway, I didn't get on last night because I went to see Inception. I may be able to play tonight (can't promise though). If not then I'll be on throughout the week, and especially if we set up another event ahead of time.
  10. I blame that on it being late at the time, me having to get up earlier for a new job and my wife tossing and turning through the night lately. I was pretty beat by the time that game started, so big surprise I forgot I was T after being CT the last game. What's embarrassing is how long I persisted in trying to knife you. The first couple of times you didn't die I thought it might be my terrible knifing skills combined with lag. That doesn't excuse my almost chasing you back to spawn trying to kill you though.
  11. Yeah, I learned the not panicking thing a long time ago, though that went out the window a few times when you were right in front of me and I didn't have time for more careful aim. Sometimes when someone you know could pop you in the head with one good shot is right in front of you you just have to spray and pray. I did get pretty good with the deagle a long time ago though, and sharpened my skills a bit more since the engine update. For a while after the update the hit registration felt so off that I couldn't kill with anything else. You were still putting me to shame though. And I remembered something that I should have added earlier as well with regards to landing a lot of bullets but not getting the kill Derrit. Just remember that you're still landing the shots which is half the battle. You just need to get used to aiming and the spray patterns of the guns you use (like learning to aim around the neck or top of the chest with the AK since it kicks pretty much straight up after the first shot). And always remember that as much as it sucks to do 96 in 6 or something like that, I've done 5 damage in one shot with the AWP once. Had I not seen it myself I never would have thought it possible. Apparently I hit the person in their baby toe or something.
  12. I can't be totally sure why you're missing the kills. Could be you need to practice, but sometimes the hit registration is less than stellar. Best advice I can give is to remember to burst fire and try not to move too much when firing. Myself and a lot of people tend to stop for a fraction of a second as we fire so it's a little more accurate (at least for the first few shots). Also try to stick to the few good weapons in the game and learn them pretty well. Most people use the M4, AK, AWP, P90, and deagle. Other weapons can be used quite successfully like the Sig, MP5 and Aug, but the others are generally more used for good reason. Other than that, you might want to find a decent gun game server and play a few games a week. It let's you cycle to a new weapon each time you kill someone so you can get used to the recoil and spray pattern and all of that. I couldn't really play worth crap until I started playing gun games a lot. Then within a couple of weeks I was winning a few here and there and was playing regular CS a lot better.
  13. Great run of games tonight with everyone. Server even got pretty full for a bit there, but I had to go after Office so I can go to sleep in preparation for getting up and going to the gym at 9 tomorrow. I know I haven't played on the server a lot, but I do think some of the guys here are getting better. I seemed to be on the receiving end of some nice Derrit kills in particular. Also, I need to practice with the deagle more so I can be like DarkSim. I'm pretty good with it, but it's kind of like comparing the guy who donates to charities at Christmas to Jesus.
  14. Didn't have the time to get on for very long tonight, and when I did I didn't even notice there were people playing on the OCR server. I was pretty tired when I started up CS so I must have mistaken the low player count for a zero. The server was still at the bottom of my server list (I sort by player count) because through some fluke every server in my favourites had people playing. I will do my best to get some play time in at 9:30 tomorrow though, and I encourage everyone else to do the same.
  15. I think you guys must get on later than I usually do because the server is always empty when I am looking to play. I'm definitely still interested in having the server, and I'll make more of an effort to get on when the servers empty in the hopes some people show up. Sadly I don't have many people in my friends list who play CS:S frequently if at all, so I'd have a hard time getting even one other person in there to try and kick start it. EDIT: Just wondering if we have stats on the server, and if not how hard it would be to get it up and running? As sad as it is, stats may increase server traffic if they're not there. I've seen some servers effectively die in a matter of days because they removed stats and most of the regulars moved on. I'd be just as happy without stats as with myself, but they do tend to appeal the people who play CS a lot.
  16. True enough. It's certainly not a perfect anti-spy solution, but that's still a lot of firepower you could potentially direct at disguised spies now, hopefully before they get behind you.
  17. Seems to me that a sentry you can aim is a sentry that can spy check.
  18. It'd probably help that if the rounds were shorter. I don't think I know of any other servers that use 5 minute rounds. 2:30-3:00 is usually more than sufficient, and helps motivate the attacking team to get their asses in gear rather than have both teams sit around (not that that's been a huge problem on the server from what I've seen).
  19. I'm also against turning on all talk permanently. I didn't mind turning it on last night since the number of players was pretty low before I left and there were some newer players on, but when a server gets full and it's actually useful to have team chat I'd rather it be default. Is there some way to turn all talk on for everyone who's dead though? I think that would be a nice compromise, especially since rounds are set at five minutes and can last for a good chunk of that sometimes.
  20. I haven't played on every map on that list but I did check out most of them on my own to refresh my memory. The only ones I outright don't want to see on there are port, nuke and to a lesser extent cbble. The first two are just plain terrible, and I don't like how large and open cbble is for the most part, though if enough people wanted to keep it I wouldn't really complain. I'm also up in the air on havana. I kind of like the map, and will even admit that the random paths is kind of interesting, but it also bothers me to have a map with a random layout in the rotation, especially since it could just confuse newer players. I know the first time I played it a few days ago it took me a few rounds to realize what was going on. At first I just thought there were two different CT spawns or something.
  21. Sadly I haven't seen anyone on for the last couple of days. I won't be able to get on tonight I think, but if we could at least get a few people on for a few nights this week we might be able to get a regular player base going. I think it's a little tough to get going on the CS server where there's some overlap with the TF2 servers player base and busy hours. Who wants to go to an empty CS server instead of a busy TF2 server? Especially if you're still new to CS. Not really sure what the best solution is there. I'm not the biggest Aztec fan but it's not terrible so I say leave it on there for now. Haven't checked out Inferno in a while so maybe I will and I'm blanking on Italy right now. I think the castle map you're thinking of might be named cbble as impossible to pronounce as that is. I agree though, it should go. Far too big for my liking and not very much fun.
  22. Ban either flashes or smokes (or even worse, both) and you'll have a hard time with the AWP. Frankly, I've taken out enough AWP users with other weapons that I don't mind them. I don't even think it's as hard to deal with as some think it is, but if everyone really wants it banned then so be it. But do not ban any of the grenades. Doing so would be one of the worst ideas I could think of. Yeah, no one likes to get flashed and die because of it, but they're in the game for a reason. While we're at it, maybe we should talk map list for the server. Part of the reason there's never anyone on could be because it's new, and also because there are some unpopular maps on there. Some that should definitely stay just off the top of my head are Dust, Dust2, and Office. I'll have to go and look at some of the other stock maps to remember which are terrible though it's been so long since I played on them.
  23. Yeah I wouldn't change much on the server now, unless you can set it to give full money every round. Deathmatch and other such gametypes are all mods anyway, many of which obviously haven't been working since the update.
  24. Had some fun times on the server tonight. I was glad I got to play something other then Dust2, ironically followed by Dust2. I play that map a lot. I thought most people were doing pretty well too, even those who were obviously pretty new. CS:S has a steep learning curve.
  25. Haha... I'm sorry, I've just played too much CS:S to expect anything resembling teamwork from it. About the best you get is a handful of guys happening to find themselves in the same area and shooting at anyone they can see. It's not often you'll see teams actually deliberately work together. It becomes especially obvious when 95% of the CT team goes to one bombsite and completely ignores the other. At most I'd say put a buy limit on it so only a couple of people can get it. But then I play on servers where there is no limit and it's the dominant weapon so I'm used to dealing with it. Most new players would get mowed down if the people using it are any good.
