  1. No see.. the problem here is that you are talking about a specific synth/specific effect but are trying to generalize it. Keyboard tracking doesn't do the same thing on every synth, etc. What keyboard tracking means, is that on some synths, certain effects/envelopes/etc can be keyboard tracked. This means that the higher up on the keyboard you go, the more pronounced these effects/envelopes/etc will be (sometimes its reversed etc). Saying "Don't ever use keyboard tracking on synth bass because it sounds bad" isn't useful advice because its not something that is consistent between synths. You need to isolate what the keyboard tracking is actually doing in the synth you're using as an example and use that as the statement.

    Again just to stress.

    - Keyboard Tracking DOES apply a different amount of certain effects/envelopes depending on what keys you are pressing on the keyboard.

    - Keyboard Tracking does NOT control the same effects/envelops on different synths. Each synth is different. While some might control the same effects/envelopes, it is not general enough to specify as a general statement

I'm looking to know if you guys know if any of this is incompatible, or if you guys know any better setups/deals that I should be looking at.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :D

  4. Yeah I get that. My problem is that both of you guys were like "LOLZ these metal songs have panning in them! you are wrong!!" when he wasn't saying that metal songs dont have panning.

Regardless, lets just let it die :P

Advice is: Throw it in mono to resolve any phasing/arrangement issues before you apply panning and stereo effects.

You can take the advice, or not take it.

End of Discussion. Resume thread plz.

  5. holy crap people in here are dumb. Nowhere does Ghetto say that rock/metal whatever is released in mono and doesn't have stereo effects. He specifically points out that lots of tracks of this genre DO have stereo effects and panning, yet if it is done properly, it will still sound good in mono (Sure the average home user doesn't listen to stuff in mono, but some radio stations play music in mono, some clubs play music in mono, etc. It does have a place).

The one point he is trying to make is "Throw it in to mono and resolve arrangement/phasing issues before adding panning and stereo effects".

You guys can't just take that piece of advice for what it is, advice, and either use it or don't. Most of you guys are completely twisting what he is trying to say, and making counter points on something he never even said in the first place.

Either way, it sounds like good advice to me, and I will experiment with it next time I do my mixing/mastering.

  6. NO! You are completely wrong. I don't understand where you are getting your information but it is wrong. I don't even believe this.

Sure the card might output sound to your speakers better than a default card will, but again, thats your card coloring the sound. It has no effect on what you do in your daw.

I give up. Wherever you're getting your information from, just stop.

  7. all I'm going to say is that... your audio interface has NO EFFECT on electronic music that is rendered in an audio program. If you were recording real instruments, it would matter, but when you make electronic music in a DAW, its just binary data. Your soundcard/audio interface has NO PART in the rendering of the music. It might.. but not to the extent you think it does.

  8. If your sound card is not an audio interface ment for audio/music producuing editing with shitty A/D converters, your music will ALL WAYS sound muddy, so go buy a proper interface....

    NO!! JUST NO! UGH!!!

I know lots of people with shitty as hell sound systems, but can still mix and master like a champ because they understand their setup and how the sound comes out of their speakers/etc.

You need to know how your setup colors sound, and how to mix/master properly. Take the advice of the other guys as well.

  9. win xp, if you wana run games, then win 7

Did you not read his post at all? Did you COMPLETELY miss the part where he said "i'm in the process of building an offline-only windows-based pc solely for music creation". You know... the FIRST LINE!

anyways, I don't really have any experience with xp x64, but I'd personally suggest w7. Its where things are headed, and it probably makes more sense to go with the flow. Ive been using w7 x64 for a while now, and its been pretty good for me, and hopefully the stuff that doesn't work on w7 now, will get patched down the road.

  10. No, you're making it look like Reason is better than FL Studio by clearly "forgetting" that FL can do the same thing.

*rage* lol wow how can somebody be so uninformed. I put that specific line in the post SPECIFICALLY to not have this argument. Learn to read.

  11. Who said you can't do that in FL? Now you're just making stuff up. :P

Ugh, if you would have actually read my post I distinctly said "I'm just comparing the 2 options that were brought up".

And I'll stop now so this doesn't turn in to a "which program is better" debate. We all like the shit we use. End of story.

  12. Ive used both daws extensively, and I find that most of the reason that people don't like reasons is because they dont know how to use it effectively enough. Ive learned how to use both, and when you know what you are doing, FL's is no faster than reasons.

Lets take an example of this one delete function.

Lets say you have a bunch of notes in fl that you want to delete. You have to traverse your mouse over each and every one while holding the right mouse key. Or.. you can draw a big box around all the notes you want to delete (big sweeping box motion vs controlled point to point motion) and hit a button. I'm just comparing the 2 methods that were brought up.
