  1. Yoou need to make your drums a bit quiter. Just a bit. Then you need to make your strings a lot louder.

The mix does sound very conservative. Now thats fine for me, but I don't think the judges will approve. You need to make it a little more original, a little more.... you.

  2. ed]All mixers with works in progress, please place a copy of your current version on the "wip: oc remixes" forum here at OCR. That does not mean stop updating at our other site, but it is to be done, to collect feedback from the community.

Ehh... isn't that a little early? I mean, we haven't even had our first WIP deadline. We're still trying things out. Perhaps later on it would be a nice idea (not sure if it boosts the image of the project though), but too early to post mine anyway.

Besides, it's not really a invitation to post new WIPs at our forum if we know we have to post them at OCR's WIP forum aswell

I thought our WIP deadline was 19th November. You know, like how It says [WIPs by 11/19] in big letters in the title of this thread.

  3. ed]Uhh... the good part?(The xylophone, mostly) And, thats Sector X from Starfox 64, not sector X from the SNES one, OK? I'm looking forward to it. I don't know what your planning, but I know that if it's got Starwolf, it's gonna kick ass.
I kinda know what I'm doing. Ive found Ultamite Andross's theme, It seems a lot easier to get notes for than penultamite Andross's theme. I might use that instead, but I'm not sure. Anyone got any opinions on the subject?
By the way, music from Venom would count towards Andross's theme.

HAHAHAHAHA! Aha! ha! ahahahahahahah! hahaha! heh heh! no.

I'm currently trying my best not to end up writing a meledy for the whole bloody game, OK?

Also, a note to mixers on the project, that have not yet completed a WIP: "What'ja waitin' for? Get goin', ya lazy punks!". No, relax. I just want to remind everybody that procrastination is one of the worst habits possible. I realise I gave you a while, and some of you gave "no problems". Well, then, get moving!

No problem. I'm gonna do a lot of work with Sector X and Andross's theme today - I know exactly where I wan't to go with Starfox's theme, but these two really need some serious planning. With Andross's theme, its just the aranging - I'm not sure what instruments and samples I'm using yet, And with sector X its simply figuring out what bits to put where. Any particular parts of Sector X anyone want to hear in it?

  5. Pi_R_[]ed

Ok, I like the idea of the mixing Sector X in, but I can't really promise anything. Andross's theme has to be dominant for at least 50% of the mix, right? Well, I really wan't to put some starwolf in as well - I really wan't to start it with a certian bit from Starwolf theme, And I really wan't to end it with another bit. However, as Andross's theme doesn't exactly show a huge amount of variety, I could probably use a bit Sector X's theme in certian places just to give it a bit more.... variety, I suppose. Now I'm promising Anything, but I quite like this idea....

And As for the submitting the mix, I really think you should give it a try. There is still a lot of bosses that need themes remixed, And we should give you a chance, see what youre capable of. If you post a WIP, we can really give you a few pointers. I'm a bit of a remix n00b as well, remember :P

I still haven't got an MSN acount. I'm setting it up.... now!

EDIT - And Now Ive Got One! its just the-almighty-tallest@hotmail.co.uk

  6. What game are you using for reference? The N64? Hmm...yeah, the composers are doing this dramatic thing in three, trying to emulate a film score. A bit awkward to remix. Do you have MSN or something? I could help you out while you mix if you want.

Also, Andross' brain has a seperate theme, which might be easier to do. He's in the SNES version too, I think. (never beat that one...)

I don't have MSN just now, but Ive been meaning to get an acount for some time now. Just wait 'till tommorow, I'll probably have an account by then.

I know he's in the SNES version, but sadly he didn't have his own theme.

And I know his brain has a different theme, but I don't know what it is. I'm actually currently writing the music by ear. I'm just lucky that there are only 3 instruments - and 2 of them are drums, which I would completely revamp anyway. The other instrument Is just a synth with some crazy effects added on, and the actual notes are quite simple. Yeah, I should be OK.

But I will probably need tips for the remixing part, so I'll set up an acount for tommorow so I can ask you for advice.

  7. I think it needs to get 3 more yes's than it does no's. I'm not particularly sure about the system either.

You have to get either 4x YES or 3x NO. If it's real close (3x NO, 3x YES or something like that) they'll wait for more judges to give their opinions.

Oh. Cool. Now I undesrtand. Yeah, I'm happy with that system.

Oh yeah, and just in case anyone can give me a few pointers, I'm kinda having a little trouble with andross's theme. Its just the music isn't exactly.... well, music. Don't get me wrong, I know the percussion pretty well and can do a lot of things with it, Its just the Synths are a bit mental... meh, I'm sure I'll figure something out.

Anyway, does anyone want to a few questions?

    - Why do the Torrents have FLAC files? What are they for?

Theyre a high-bitrate, seemingly high-quality type of music file. You need to get a codec to play them. I think theyre a waste of space, personally, one FLAC song can end up taking up more space than a whole album thats in MP3. You should state in the rules of this project that all entires must be in MP3, including WIPs

    - Can anyone provide their services to master tracks, with better quality samples, and mad expensive programs not all of us have? (Don't answer if you already did)

    I could.

    - How many judges need to OK a track for it to get through? 'Cause I was thinking, what if, instead of deciding ourselves, or leaving it up to the regualr judge amount, what if ALL judges needed to OK a track? Because I know that Summoning of Spirits is using the judges to decide what gets on (Thanks, pu). But, what if, instead of the norm, we used ALL of the judges, and needed a full, (if not missing one) to give a "yes"? It would ensure track quality, and make sure anything we might miss gets caught.

I think it needs to get 3 more yes's than it does no's. I'm not particularly sure about the system either.

Despite not entirely knowing what the current system is, I'm happy with it. I know you wan't to ensure quality, but if we have to wait for every single judge to give us an YES, well, that could take ages. Judges might not have access to thier computer for weeks. We have to remember: Judges are people to. So in short I'm happy with the current system.

Things are pretty wild up there right now, but if anyone else wants to step forward, even if they aren't making a track themselves, feel free to. Much appreciated.

I can play drums live if need be.

And as for the sig thing, It sounds sweet. My sig should have both Starwolf and Andross in it somewhere, though. I have decided to use sprinklings of the Starwolf theme in places, but keep the Andross theme as the main theme. It will probably start with a little bit of starwolf, then go into a breakdown section, then play the andross stuff, then have a bit more Starwolf in the bridge and at the end. Seriously, Its going to rule.

Ooooh... drums. That may come in pretty handy. Are you good at orchestral/march kinda stuff? Perhaps I'll call you in for some help somehwere along the line.

And of course it's going to rule... this whole project is! :P

I can. i can do anything, I suppose. Funk, Metal, Orchestral, Marching Band, Waltzes, Hip-Hop, Pop, Indie, Christrian Rap .... anything.

I'd love to have a go at a remix for Battle with Starwolf (from Starfox) If no-one else is intrested.

Sadly... Andross's theme MUST be dominant. While, yes, I agree that Starwolf's theme kicks total ass, the project does revolve around FINAL bosses (I guess TGMP is an exception). So, if you do this, the most of Starwolf's theme can be is 49% of the whole thing.

Dang.... that changes everything. Its a shame, because I had just started work on Starwolf's theme. Not to worry, though, I suppose I can use the Starwolf theme somewhere in the mix, and If I don't, I'll just submit to the site in the style of a normal remix.

Well, I better get working on Andross's theme.

  12. That lazer thing in the sky fortress zone in Sonic 2. These little spinny spiky discs came out, and you had to jump on them, then wait till the lazer stopped, then hit it and run before it shot, well, lazer at you. And then you had to fight the first Metalix straight after it, using only the rings you had from the battle with the lazer (which was usually none. Well, for me anyway).

And that last Collosi in 'Shadow Of The Collosus' was a total bitch as well. Seriously, It took me 2 hours to beat that boss.

    Oh, and

the last part of sonic 2 was pretty hard when you played as knuckles becuz he couldn't jump high enough to hit dr.robontic

... Knuckles was in Sonic 2? And you could play as him?

If you opened the top of the cartridge for 'Sonic and Knuckles' and put 'Sonic 2' in the slot thing, you could play Sonic 2 as knuckles.
