  1. It's fairly clear from your post that you have no comprehension of what the comic is about. First of all, the story goes that all the supervillains in the world killed the heroes in the 1980s. Secondly, this is not even a plot point in the movie.

Next, Wanted the comic is a sort of satire that pokes fun at the stereotypes of the superhero comic book. The movie? Not so much; action flick.

Third, the whole point of the comic was the end: you and me and all the other comic book readers out there are living in a world where supervillains exist, but heroes only live in comic books and our imaginations because that's what the villains want us to think.

Next time perhaps you could look a little deeper at what the author is trying to get across with his work. I fear for you if you ever read Watchmen.

Okay, sorry for not taking notes, I guess I should from now on. As far as the end... I had better things to do that read it. Like fap to Martha Stewart.

  2. Haha, guys being poor has its advantages. No car, and getting a summer job in florida is about as easy as rubbing your belly and dividing by zero in your head at the same time, so I ended up with a job 10 miles from where I live. I bike there, regardless of weather, five days a week. So, 100 miles of biking a week.

@dragon avenger: You'll know how I feel. Hey, dont do a dry run, just wing it the day of work, if you make a wrong turn, youll get an adrenaline rush from being late.

On top of that I run a mile three days a week. I cant be bothered to get a gym membership, so its pushups and situps for me, 3 sets of 15 pushups and 3 sets of 25 situps 3 times a week.

    My goals:

-be able to run 2 miles in under 12 minutes

-do 45 pushups without collapsing. On a side note, they must be full pushups, arms fully extended, and chest on the ground. This is hard, trust me.

-do 60 situps in a minute.

Actually these aren't just my goals, they're the Army ROTC's as well. A $120,000 scholarship depends on me being able to do this by the end of the summer. At any rate, I've got my work cut out for me.

So that said, does anyone have suggestions? They're welcome, as a lot depends on this.

  3. For me, I enjoy replaying a number of single player games...

    Zelda: Ocarina of Time

    Zelda: Link's Awakening

    Metal Gear Solid

    Several Final Fantasies

    Super Mario World

...As well as a number of multiplayer games with friends.

    Secret of Mana

    Street Fighter II Turbo

    Super Mario Kart

Edit: Oh, games you can beat in one day. Well, most of those can be completed in a relatively short amount of time.

Your list is, word for word, exactly what games I play over and over, with the exception of MGS. Odd, isnt it?

  4. One thing I've been reading from various professional game designers via Game Developer magazine, Edge, etc is if you're going into programming get a computer science degree. It'll teach you more and it's basically the same thing as game programming. So far not many game design specific schools have the programming aspect cut out with the exception of maybe DigiPen. Regardless it'd probably be best to get into an actual computer science class.

Oh yeah and any ads from Collins College, Westwood, UAT, etc are generally bullshit and crappily done. I've heard a lot of things about Collins screwing people out of money and such from the guys I work with. So just do your research carefully when picking a school.

Sweet, Software Engineering and Computer Science are basically the same thing. Actually with adding another semester I could get both majors. Obviously fate guided my hand as I arbitrarily selected a major.

  5. Uh, kinda. Have you seen The Prestige? With all the flashbacks?

I agree that movie is great but thats only because Hugh Jackman played as Wolverine. Ive seen it 4 times and still fail to grasp what the hell happened at the end. I dont know, maybe its because of my nasty habit of watching movies while doing calculus homework. But I digress. Hey when switching from real time to flashback, give us an indicator, okay? Like in mangas, when the background goes black. Or maybe a little rubber ducky in the lower left hand corner. I just hate watching a flashback and figuring out that its not the present after two minutes of vague confusion.

By the way, don't take my advice.

  6. 36 years old, in love with a kickass girlfriend

Currently in the military serving in Iraq

Hobbies: sports, Zen, martial arts, computers, music

You're going to have to update your biography now.

    Congratulations, man!

Ill be in the Army four years from now, so no telling what world war we'll be on by then =P.

    Good luck!

    EDIT:

Thanks for all the replies, everyone.

LOL - try blacks with Germans (she's German)!!

I know a really nasty joke regarding this, but... Im gonna go ahead and not say it.

Hey Jago, your name is Stephen King, I bet you get a lot of stupid cmments about that.

  7. Yeah, he pretty much gets it right on Oblivion... or at least on the vanilla out-of-the-box game. It's really the user-created mods that saved both Morrowind and Oblivion.

Actually, I remember how I discovered the modding scene for Morrowind. The first thing I did when I got off the boat was enter the nearest store to buy a hat... only to discover that there are no hats in Morrowind!!

Your right with that one. I played it on Xbox 360, but my roomate modded the crap out of his game. I remember he had this mod that made everyone naked, and even added jiggle physics. I was like what!!!

He had a sephiroth mod as well, complete with the masamune. crazy stuff.

  8. Who I know: My brother was recently promoted to a senior graphic artist position at EA. His current project is Dead Space. A good friend of mine is the Nintendo editor at Games Radar. I also work with a product manager at Yahoo! Games.

My brother spent a lot of time designing Quake levels and the like from the ground up before he was a professional graphic artist. He ended up using stuff like that as his portfolio, which got him hired at Outrage.

Shame on you, zircon! You and I both know many people who make game music professionally. It's not the primary source of income for all of those musicians, but it's still doable. Sure the competition is nuts, but "don't even try" is lousy advice. Everything else you said is good stuff though. (Seriously people, really know your shit before you try doing it professionally.)

For programmers: learn C++ like the back of your hand. Keep in mind that game programming is the most complex, difficult programming out there. Physics, AI, 3d libraries... you've got your work cut out for you. But if you're good at it, you shouldn't have any problems finding employment (so long as you're willing to relocate :D).

Can I trade families with you? My dads a neurosurgeon, it will be fair.

  9. For example, some of you may have heard of "A=440". This basically means that a click or similar drum sound will generate an A note when played at a tempo of 440. I think that's what he's getting at anyway.

I've experienced something similar, and possibly related. Sometimes when I'm listening to music (live or recorded), but not necessarily paying immediate attention to it... it will sound like the song skips a beat. Like a CD skipping, but it's almost always exactly 1 beat regardless of tempo. Am I going crazy or is this normal?

In my professional opinion, you are going crazy.

Lucky for you I dont have a profession so you have nothing to worry about.

On a tangent, I hope that doing studies like these will allow us to engineer a song that is extremely forgetable. Wouldnt that be awesome? A series of pitches that the human brain has the most trouble storing and recalling. Also a license plate of the same nature would be cool.

  10. I'm a QA tester for THQ out in Phoenix. I was originally on assignment through Acro, an outsourcing type of firm, and recently got hired for a permanent QA position. About damn time as I've been there for a year and four months. However it's thus far been my favorite job. There is also a QA Test Lead position open and I'm applying for that. A cool thing is that we are in the same building as Rainbow Studios, they're in the floor below us so we generally get their titles and interact with the developers far more than usual.

I went to school for 'Multimedia' which basically boils down to that I didn't know what I wanted to do at the time. I thought I wanted game design but then realized that it's not what I really wanted, it's harder to get into it and it's extremely specific which would decrease my chances for any other sort of work should that fall through. I started focusing more on animation, which in retrospect I wish I focused on that earlier and went to a more art centric school. I do have strong art skills that I'm trying to improve more and more. I know modelling, basic textures and basic rigs as well as animating in Max and Maya. I also do some character animations for a MMO, Infernal Worlds from Forever Interactive.

One thing that I would suggest to artists wanting to break in, having strong traditional skills would help tremendously. I've noticed on a lot of job postings that companies generally want a traditional art background. Granted if you have a demo reel that knocks their socks off and can do the work in a timely fashion then it won't be much of a concern. The good thing about the game industry is that it's growing which means more job opportunities, you just need the skills for them.

One day I hope to do is own my own company, preferably remain independent but whatever. Right now it's in the back of my mind and I'd like to gain more industry experience before I make that plunge. I know it would more than likely end in failure, it'd still be a fun endeavor to do.

What is QA testing? Sorry, too lazy to google.

I read the comic recently, and I remember thinking what a disgusing novel it was, and hoping God, I hope they dont make a movie out of this. And here it is.

The comic was based off the Idea of a Fraternity of Supervillains, who destroyed the last superhero in some time in the 1960, and now rules the world. Theres this kid, the bastard offspring of the worlds geatest badass, who was killed while making a gay porno, whose life sucks and then he gets his inheritance: membership in the fraternity and a life of doing whatever the fuck he wants. And he does this the rest of the comic. Theres some bull about the supervillains killing each other but it was all in all retarded.

The movie, however, has made the supervillains assassins and added an all star crew, a basic formula for sucess. Im going to see this shit, if for nothing more than seeing Angelina Jolie naked again. =P

  12. Is there really that much of a melody in the original? As far as I remember it was really just the chords.

Anyway, I've made some changes to the second half, dropping the synth bass for some interplay between piano and 'bass violin'. Slipped in a sonata of awakening reference while I was at it.

    viuw

The oath to order is what I want. Youll find that it fits nicely with what youve got going on.

    To jog your memory:oathtoorder.jpg

EDIT: Your piano is still wombly. I could record live samples, Ive inherited an amazing grand that sounds great, but the best microphone i have is on my mp3 player. It would still sound better than what youve got, thats how out of place yourpiano sounds right now.

  13. Damn, my favorite track from the game finally remixed. Very good use of those clock samples.

The song gets annoyingly silent around the second quarter though. Also theres a lack of melody... well, everywhere. It sounds damn good, but I want the melody in full bravado, not a bunch of chord progressions and a... wombly...piano line.

Still damn good, tho. I'll follow this untilit gets submitted.

  14. I believe part of the problem comes from the lyrics themselves. They're not bad or anything, but the Japanese style of writing doesn't always come across well when it's translated into English. It's the same when translating English into Japanese... something just seems to get lost. The end result can be hard for some Americans to get into lyrically. It's doubly so when the group's songs get translated, and they turn out to be dripping with lovey-dovey romantic commentary. Some folks just don't want to mosh to how a girl looking into a boy's eyes causes her to melt into a pool of hearts that fill the air with the sweet scent of love as she floats on a passion that's like thousand giddy school yard girls... ya know?

Edit: Of course, that's another thing some folks can't get past... the stereotype that Japanese songs are all mushy and love drenched. That simple idea can keep people from even trying the music, whether it's translated or not. Then if they do try listening to a song, and they hear one thing that sounds even remotely mushy to them, it's over. Generalizations take over, the music's ditched.

To prove this, I'll show you something interesting. The following was translated from English to Japanese and then back to English using babel fish.

But time flows like a river, and history repeats itself.

But time flows like the river, history repeats that itself.

    Something more complex:

Democracy contains many pretentious peanuts, and is therefore eclectic in its vacuousness.

Therefore democracy many includes the peanut which you are affected, with vacuousness it is eclectic.

    So, yeah.

  15. OMFG!!!!!!!!!!! I just saw all but the last 20 minutes of it!!!!!! how gay is that. I had to go to work at 2 and I didnt want to get fired so i left early. It was right at the part where that asshole army guy who is not william hurt was saying Im pissed of and ready for round 3.
