  1. Tonight's episode of RFG will feature music from indie games including Zircon's "Return All Robots" and David Saulesco's "Eternal Daughter", as well as music from AnoSou's "THE ANSWER - Armored Core Tribute Album" and more! I'm listening to the playlist now and it's really really good, so tune in at 7PM Eastern tonight :D

We've also got some gooood news about MAGFest! It looks like I'll be joining Josh Whelchel and Danny Baranowsky on the "Indie Games 101" panel! Be sure to check it out on Saturday at 6PM. If you can't make it to MAGFest, video footage of all the panels and concerts will be added to MAGFest's youtube channel.

  2. Hey all. I was lurking on Reddit earlier when I saw a post for a Final Fantasy VI remix album which had recently been released. Sean Schafianski's Final Fantasy VI Garritan is a collection of 51 orchestral remasterings of music from FFVI. Schafianski did a pretty darn good job updating the tracks, and it's free to boot so I figured I'd pass the links on to you guys. The album is available via MegaUpload here or by FileDropper here. Schafianski also has a Youtube channel if you want to check that out.

As far as my favorite tracks, "Dark World" has pretty solid instrumentation and an excellent soundscape, and "Forever Rachel" is poignant and touching. There's plenty to like about Schafianski's remasterings, and I'd encourage you guys to check them out.

  3. I picked this up just because it was so cheap -- I'm hoping that it will make for a good netbook game.

Will definitely run on a netbook. For 1.50 USD this is an utter bargain. Had many hours of fun with the original, and I'd definitely suggest you give it a try.

  4. Hey all! Random (aka Mega Ran), the rapper behind "Mega Ran 9" and "Forever Famicom", is releasing his "Final Fantasy 7" album on January 31st. His music does justice to the subject material and he has a way of connecting with gamers on a deep level. He really is one of the most talented, thought-provoking VGM artists out there, and I wanted to share the upcoming album with you guys.

The album page has the first single, "Aerith", available now (stream for free, pay what you want to download). If this track is any indication of what is to come, then we should all be really excited. Here's looking forward to 1/31/11!

  5. After the podcast portion of this week's RFG, we're going to have an official "Super Metroid Remastered" listening party! Tenchux has been dutifully releasing (via Youtube) one song from his new album every day for the past two weeks, and this Wednesday will be your first opportunity to download the whole album in MP3 form! Join us in the 8BitX Chat around 8:15 PM Eastern this Wednesday, December 15th to discuss the album.

As part of the album release, we at 8BitX are also holding a charity drive benefitting Child's Play. Tenchux is still a good ways away from his goal of $1,000, so if you're in a giving mood please hit up the donation site. Every little bit counts!

  6. Wow, I really loved the buildup in the intro, and the swift transition around 0:30 seconds. Really an attention grabber. Also enjoyed the wide range of samples featured in the arrangement, really kept me on my toes. The vocal bit and the whistling might not have been the strongest part of the mix, but they were certainly unique and enjoyable.

  7. The drums at the beginning were interesting, and I was eager to see what they were setting up. It felt like an intro to a chase scene from a 70's spy movie. I liked the synths as well, and they sound very unique. Would have liked it a bit more if you had done something more with the mix (some soloing, or taking the source in another direction). I just felt like the mix ended before it really took me anywhere.
