Hello, my name is Alex (Nacho) and I created the site GamerSoundtracks.com. Years back I bought the domain and I wanted to create an all inclusive site for video game music. I thought it would be great if you could have everything, from remixes/covers, to MIDI's, to Piano Sheet Music, to guitar/bass tabs to videos, etc. When I first launched it, I was just an amateur with HTML. It became a very long process to add updates to the site and figured there was a better way to do things. At the time I only had MIDI's on the site, so I figured I'd shut down and start looking into programming. That's when I learned about PHP. So I then began the process of teaching myself PHP. Of course, life took different twists and turns along the way. I met an amazing woman (who is now my fiance) that occupied lots of my time and Gamersoundtracks.com was put on the back burner. However, I kept grinding away and grinding away and I finally was able to complete the site. The site is designed to be multi-dimensional. I know that you guys are the cream of the crop when it comes to remixes, but I wanted to let those who couldn't make it a chance to submit on my site and get some sort of confidence going forward. I also wanted those who do creative covers a chance to submit as well. On top of that, I wanted to host MIDI files, so people have the option to submit their MIDI files for specific games. I also wanted to host sheet music so people can learn how to play these songs they came to love. Users can submit piano sheet music, along with guitar/bass tabs. The last submission users can do is submit videos. This is especially useful for bands and artists who want to show past performances of themselves playing live. The site is such a mixture of things that I hope can become a good resource for those who love video game music. As a band or artist, you can sign up and promote yourself by posting tour/performance dates. Even if you are just a listener, you can create a profile. There are profile questions everyone can answer that can give others an in depth look at who they are. I also created a messaging system so you can communicate with one another without having to give out your email address. So in a way, it's a bit of a social networking site as well. I'm looking to evolve the site over time but first things first is I need content. So I need people to sign up and submit submit submit! I'm not looking to compete with this site or others, I just want to create another community for people who love video game music! I hope I was able to answer your question, I put a lot of hard work into this site and I'm very excited about it. I hope you guys can visit and participate. Thank you for putting a link to my site on here, I really appreciate it!

CHIPP, I appreciate the feedback! I was curious how people would feel about the swing of the song. I come from a rock band background, so repetitiveness is what I'm more used to & it can be a hard habit to break. The fact that the song is pretty repetitive to begin with and the fact I'm only using 4 instruments will make it a challenge, but I'll see what I can come up with. I also do love trippy effects & mellow rhythms & such, but you may be right, I may use too much of it. I'm trying to stay away from making this project too much of a "rock" genre (because I sometimes I do that, LOL), but I don't want to sacrifice the flow of the song either. When I got done writing it, it wasn't a song I was 100% comfortable with, but I thought I'd share it & see if others felt it was the same way. Since I see I'm not the only one, I'll have to see what I can come up with. I don't think there is ever that perfect song because everyone has a different taste on music, but I agree work needs to be done. I'm hoping to get more feedback so I have more to work with, but you're giving me some good ideas. They're in my head, but when I sit down with the guitar I'm having a hard time getting them out, so I'll just need to use some patience. Thanks again man, I appreciate the constructive criticism!

For me, I didn't think the bass was loud enough. I even turned the bass on my speakers all the way up and it was difficult to hear. This song needs the "umph" from the bass & it's not getting it. I'm having difficulty with the drums too. The kick drum starting on 1:02 is rough & almost sounds like it's clipping. The snare is ok but I'm not digging the toms. The toms are lacking a good clean sound, & even if you want those exact tom sounds in your song, they sound too fake, even for this song. I really think if you found better drum samples or found a way to mix & polish the current ones up that would help significantly. Add that with a louder bass, and you have yourself a pretty good song!

They are pretty picky when it comes to accepting music, but it never hurts to try. Nevertheless, I'd be interested in listening to it regardless. If you don't mind posting a link, I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to hear!

I thought it was pretty good. Very original. I was just about to give a critique about what happens after 2:37, but I just read not to pay attention to it, LOL. So up until that point, everything sounds good to me!

Hey, practice makes perfect. I always play with a click track so I can stay on time with the song, even if there are no drums. Keep playing & keep practicing and eventually you'll start to put it together. My best recommendation is to learn different styles or find your own style before doing remixes. I had been playing in a band for years before I started doing things on my own. That experience was invaluable because it allows you get more creative, whether it is funk, rock, jazz, etc. Eventually you'll get curious about how chords work & before you know it, you'll be an advanced player! If you really did just get a guitar and already learned how to play that, then you are doing nicely. Keep on working at, you're off to a good start!

I really enjoyed it! I thought it was really well done. You ask if it's even Jazz, but quite honestly, does it really matter? I've always been a firm believer that if it sounds good, then keep it how it is. What separates great musicians from good musicians is the ability to fuse styles & come up with completely new ones. The only critique is that it doesn't sound like there is really an end, it just repeats from the start. But besides that, it's a job well done!

First and foremost, this is part of a project I'm working on, so please read this thread to understand what I am trying accomplish & to understand my musical background: http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=12402 I'm looking for feedback to this current Final Fantasy VI song, Opening Theme. Please keep in mind that all the guitar, bass & drum sounds with what Fruity Loops had to offer, and that all instruments will be recorded live. I'm not looking for feedback on the quality of sound, looking for feedback on how it was written. Is there a guitar part that should be changed? Is there a bass line you don't like? A segway that could be better? Please let me know. The file can be downloaded here: Opening Theme MP3 If you have ideas that cannot be expressed into words, download the Fruity Loops file & make those changes & send back to me: Opening Theme FL I appreciate all your feedback. Look forward to hearing back from you!

I'm new here and confused where to put this, so I apologize if I put this post in the wrong thread. I checked the "Album Project Guidelines" and 1) I'm not interested in this being an official OCR album & 2) I couldn't start a thread in that forum, so I thought this would be the best place to start. Let me first introduce myself. My name is Alex "Nacho" Martinez. I got the nickname "Nacho" from being in a band 7 years ago and it has stuck with me ever since. I've been playing the bass for 10 years and have picked up rhythm guitar over that time. My background is mainly focused around rock, with many of my influences coming from 311, Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Primus, Incubus, Smashing Pumpkins, Sublime & the Deftones. I've been wanting to re-create this album (Final Fantasy VI) with my own style for awhile but haven't had the time and/or resources until recently. I plan on having the main rhythm section on every song being: * 7 String Electric Guitar, standard tuning (B-E-A-D-G-B-E) * 5 String Electric Bass, standard tuning (B-E-A-D-G) * Regular Drum Kit The twist will be that the lead on the songs will be played on a 5 string bass, but I will remove the 2 lower strings and replace them with higher strings that are found on a 7 string bass, with the final tuning being (A-D-G-C-F). I will handle the bass sections. I have drummers & guitarists on hand willing to participate as well. I have a friend with massive amounts of recording equipment, so recording all live instruments will not be an issue. I plan on using almost every minute as I can on a full CD (80 minutes), with the main songs being tackled: * Opening Theme * Battle Medley (Combination of Battle Theme, the Decisive Battle & the Fierce Battle) * The whole Opera scene with FULL vocals [i have killer vocalists willing to record] (Overture, Aria Di Mezzo Caraterre, the Wedding Waltz, Duel, Grand Finale?) * Dancing Mad * Ending Theme (Yes, I plan on tackling this whole song) Whatever space is left, I will fill up with other songs, such as Mystery Train, Dark World, Epitaph, Slam Shuffle, Mt. Koltz, Kids Run Through the City Corner, etc. What I Would Need From You 1) Percussion. I'd need good drum beats & ideas. I'm not very good at coming up with creative beats AT ALL. I've got creative drummers to handle any spots where we can't come up with something, but I'd like to hear a good "assembled" version of a song before starting the recording process. 2) Help with Writing. While I enjoy coming up with remixes on my own, I know that these songs could be a bit better with some help. I would initially put together the song, and then if you had any input to make that base part of it better, I would welcome those suggestions. 3) Adding Little Sounds. If it sounds good, I want you to add it. Want to add strings? Add it. Want to add acoustic guitar? Add it. Think piano would be a nice touch in a certain area? Add it. As long as the base of the song is intact, I would want you to add any little sounds to improve it as a whole. How The Process Would Work 1) I will create the song using Sibelius & then transfer MIDI over to Fruity Loops 7. Using Fruity Loops, I will create the drums, bass, lead bass & guitar sounds using what they have. Now I know they don't have the greatest sound, but if you can imagine what it'll sound like with live instruments, then it'll suffice. 2) I will send the song to you for your process (percussion, writing & sounds). We will continue to exchange until the song is complete. 3) Once all songs are completed, I will go into the recording studio. I will record all the parts, mix & then send back to you. 4) At which you will add all the little sounds from the "assembled" songs to the recorded songs. Send back to me and... 5) I will master & complete! It'll be a long project, but I have no doubt it could be pretty good at the end. I'm not looking for someone to be able to handle all the songs, so you'd be able to pick and choose. However, if you'd like to handle this project with me through most of the way, I'd be willing to let you do so. Please also remember that even though I have a very open mind, please don't take offense if there is something I don't like. Since it would be my project, I would want the final word, but based on all the remixes I've heard on this site, I doubt I will have any complaints. If you are interested, please let me know. My e-mail is alex@gamersoundtracks.com I look forward to hearing from you! P.S. Once again, I apologize if this is in the wrong thread, I just didn't know where to put it. Thanks.
