  1. Yeah if I can't find a price match I'm just going to pay full price at ZZ, but I'm poor so I was hoping I could find a cheaper price they would match. I'll check around a bit.
  2. I want to help support OC Remix but ZZounds only seems to price match "official" dealers so no looking up on Amazon or anything. Specifically looking for a low price on the M-Audio 410. ZZounds has it for $300 but I'm sure I could find cheaper. Anyone have any ideas?
  3. Ahhhhh god, now I am reading all these customer reviews bashing M Audio saying it can actually fry your hardware / etc. and is tough to get working correctly. Blah. One wouldn't think it would be this tough to find something decent and reliable...
  4. Hmm... also I'm pretty sure I only have 4 pin firewire... which means I would need to use the power adaptor that comes seperately? Is there anything bad about doing it this way? It's not quite as convenient but that doesn't matter to me.
  5. My brother (not the music producer, the younger clueless one) was telling me earlier that he doesn't like the Tabit program I gave him because he "can't find any of the sounds I want." I was like "um... it has every note possible on there, what do you mean?" "I want weird notes that are like, in between real notes." Um... ok? He does dress in all black and wear a trench coat, so I guess it makes some sense.
  6. Well I'm actually still slightly confused? Ideally yes, I want to go straight from amp to pre-amp or whatever no mics. Not sure what MIDI is even used for, but I will probably want to hook up a keyboard sometime... that is MIDI right? At the moment my only plans are self-recording so I'd only need one input? Or do you record in stereo I guess? And I'm not even sure why I'd need more than one output?
  7. Hmm, well the pre-amp is more like a near-permanent loan. He runs a pretty big techno/electronic label but he doesn't actually record guitars much, and when he does he always makes me play for him anyway (even though I'm not that good,) so it isn't like he would need it without me. But it won't actually be mine either, so I'd prefer to have a decent set-up without it if need be. Frankly I don't even understand the difference between a pre-amp and an external sound card and all of that.
  8. On a side note, where do you think the cheapest place to find this stuff would be? My brother suggested Ebay but I tend to like to get things brand new and under warranty if they are big purchases.
  9. My brother is giving me a pre-amp that he has used on actual record releases so that should be alright, but he says I should get an external sound card as well. But I'm clueless about this stuff. M Audio is supposed to be good, right? http://shopper.cnet.com/external-audio-adapters/m-audio-firewire-410/4014-9335_9-32590752.html If not that, anyone have any other good suggestions? I'm on XP and have firewire.
  10. This is really confusing, I can't seem to find any that even use firewire? I think I'm looking wrong.
  11. Hmm, I'm just going off what my brother said I need, he *is* a music producer though and has recorded guitars on albums off his laptop before, so I figure he must sort of know what he is talking about. I messaged him too to see what he thinks about all this. The other question is, are these things OS specific?
  12. I have a Sony Vaio with 2 GB RAM and a firewire port. It's on Vista right now (ew) but will probably be on XP soon. I am mostly looking to record guitars/bass, but also eventually vocals/drums/etc. Getting a good guitar sound is the most important thing for me though. $200 or less is what I'm hoping for. It has to be external as well, hopefully using the firewire. My brother says look at M Audio or Native Instruments?
  13. Hey thanks for the advice guys! I'm not sure when I will get around to finishing this up, have a ton of other projects going on not to mention life outside music. I'm wondering, is there a forum here for original works too? I'm more into original music than remakes in general, I just figured I'd try a remake to get used to these new music programs.
  14. What do you mean by soundfonts, like VSTs? I have Pro 53 which people say is great but I can't get it working, blah. I have some other big name VSTs as well, I just need to figure out how to get the best sound from them. There are a LOT of little knobs on them that, when turned, do various things... a LOT. AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT MOST OF THEM DO.
  15. It's still definitely a WIP but I figured I'd get some feedback. I'm pretty new to this digital music creation stuff, I've done a lot of stuff in TABIT which is really basic midi but I finally got Orion and this is what I've come up with so far... http://www.negativeworld.org/etc/mk64ending.mp3 Let me know what works and what doesn't! And try not to rip me a new one if it is terrible next to the stuff other people are doing!
  16. Ah, that link wasn't the vg song, just some original stuff I've done to give an idea of my style. If I even have one, I'm pretty new to all of this. The MK song is nearly finished, I doubt it is good enough to get on the site but we'll see, it turned out alright for a NOOB song.
  17. I'm pretty new to all this electronic music stuff so maybe I have no shot, but I'm almost done with a Mario Kart remix that turned out pretty decent. http://www.myspace.com/incineratordrone That's my music space, the first song is really the first electronic song I ever did. (The second is just some halfassed acoustic thing, PAY NO MIND.) I think I probably have a ways to go before I get a good enough sound to get on here, but who knows.
