  1. Has anyone here got My Pokemon Ranch?

I got it, and I have to say, I like it A LOT.

First of all, I was ecstatic at the prospect of a storage system for my 350+ pkmn, so that was pretty cool. Second, I love the way they look! Like little origami pokemon!

But most of all, I love the interactions between pokemon and the miis. I made my personal mii the caretaker of the pkmn I imported, so my 6 main pkmn always stick with me. Also, they all act exactly like they should! For example, my gardevoir rarely leaves my side and she often just floats around my head or smiles with the other pokemon. My Primeape, on the other hand, constantly runs from one end of the ranch to the other, attacking any pokemon that get in its way. Pretty much how they act in the show and games.

Also, every pkmn responds in similar ways, not just special ones like your party. I watched as a dewgong was chased by a turtwig (Who don't like each other, due to the type matchup) until it was cornered, where it spun around, froze the turtwig in a block on ice and ran off as fast as it could. I think it's the fact that the game can support 1000 pkmn, plus 20 miis plus toys all interacting this way ON SCREEN at the SAME TIME that caused a drop in the graphics. After all, trying to account for every single pkmn's personality would have to take a toll somewhere.

Another cool thing: the pictures you take on the ranch and save to your SD card can actually be uploaded to your computer. I've got a picture of my mii surrounded by my team as my desktop right now.

All in all, I think it's a great little program if you have way too much pokemon and can't bear to get rid of all those bidoofs. (The $10 price range is a little steep, though, for a fancy screensaver.)

  2. I'm also in the 10-26 range, and I guess Wii is my only system (Unless you count all the other nintendo systems, which I own, a ps1 and colecovision), But when I play it's usually only for about an hour to two hours every other day. That is, of course, unless it's a new, AAA game like galaxy or corruption, but I finished those and now I'm just going for 100% in galaxy and a second run through of metroid and zelda.

The reason I only play every other day is because on the other days I play my DS. I know it sounds weird, but I've rationed myself to either DS or Wii each day, so I don't just jump in between them and waste my entire day.

I don't really see that being any different if I had any other systems, I would probably play with the Wii more than with a PS3 or XBOX360, but that's only because none of the games really appeal to me. I'd love to own the systems, but not for their titles ;)

  3. I would really enjoy more presentations from you. Your obvious imitation of Yahtzee is not just forgivable, but made unique thanks to your voice modulation and alternation between seriousness and silly satire. A couple pictures that amused me were your "governator" and "It prints money". Good stuff my friend.

I actually find this better than most of Yahtzee's stuff. Dan's ideas are much more coherent and logical, not just criticisms. Also, I really appreciate the absence of over-the-top language. While funny in Yahtzee's vids, it also makes me a little embarrassed and uncomfortable to hear the F-bomb so many times.

Now I just need to sit back and wait until the inevitable: F*** F*** F*** etc comes along, just to tease me, lol.

  4. Many great points were raised, and overall it is a great video.

I think that you were 100% correct in stating that sex in games must be present when appropriate, not just as some extra, cheap thrills.

Intimacy is the first hurdle, however, that game developers haven't overcome. Look at LoZ TP for example. They had a great opportunity between Link and Illia, but once the developers realized it, they had to think up some way to remove the intimacy so they wouldn't have to deal with it, so *SPOILER* bye bye Illia's memory! */SPOILER*

The only time I can think of a movie where the sex was necessary was Terminator, because Sarah having a son was an integral part of the story. Too often in movies is sex put in just because there's space for it, but all this does is just present sex as a cheap thrill, and it's the same in games. Personally, I think games are more enjoyable when you aren't distracted by, ahem, 'women', and if a game is based purely on being distracted by such 'women', I think that's just a sad, last-resort attempt at getting money from a shallow, male demographic.

  5. I used to go to Serebii to trade there, buit the seconf you try to offer Darkrai there you get kicked. I'm conviced that Serebii is convinced that he lives in a magical world where Japan Event Pokemon don't exist.

    Long story short Serebii blows.

EDIT OF SUPER PROPORTIONS: I don't need anything for the Darkrai. They were free in the theatre and I am passing those savings onto you!!

Lol, yeah, I got kicked a few times for strange reasons, like asking when the darkrai event was. They just have a computer system in place that kicks you if you mention the magic words, lol.

Although, you can talk about them in the private chats.

  6. I remember in his toruk (however you spell it) review he gave a positive mention of Metroid Prime, which got me to thinking: Aside from psychonaughts, do you think he ever will review a game he likes? If he liked MP, he would probably like MP3, but he still might complain about the controls in some way.

Mind you, I enjoy seeing him destroy games I love. I think my favorite review is Mario galaxy even though I love the game.

  7. I can honestly say I love the pokemon games,

But I can also honestly say I hate the way Nintendo goes with them.

The whole 2 versions Idea is fine; after all, it makes it worth seeking out others with the other version to Catch 'em All! But I never liked the 3rd game, excepting Yellow, because that was really different. Although emerald brought a lot of new stuff, I only got it because you can catch all three legendaries in it.

But, the continual addition of monsters is just unnecessary. I like the idea of adding only 100 more and making them uncommon and equalizers and Aninymouse said. I think after that, Nintendo can still do great things with the pkmn they have.

Another thing; Should Nintendo step away from the normal gym badge thing? They did with Colosseum and XD, and those were pretty good, except there were only like 100 pkmn in total in them...

I like the Gym badge system, but it's just so predictable.

What I really want to see is a battle with Team Rocket (Or galactic, or magma, or universe, or whatever they want to call themselves) INSIDE A POKEMON CENTER! Epic! W00t!

Or at least something to make it unusual and crazy!

  8. That's easy' date=' the thread has already brought up that the Wii has the market share right now, and is current gen. In the Metal Slug Anthology example, yes I would grab the PS2 version, only for the better control scheme.

My point there is more, if the layout already exists, is it really going to hurt the designers that much to make the cube or classic controller an option. Take some of the GameCube ports for example, do they offer the Cube controller as an option? I'm not sure about Resident Evil 4, but in Rampage: Total Destruction's case, no.

And yes, I'm well aware Rampage is not a good game to begin with, but I'm a fan of the series and it's a good example of a game where the work for a control scheme had already been done, yet was completely omitted.[/quote']

A lot of the time it seems as though developers are putting in motion controls for the sake of motion controls. I don't really see a point in it, and it usually brings the title down.

In the case of Transformers (Yes, I bought the game...) The wii version had the terrible camera controls VIA pointing at the screen and to attack you had to shake the remote! Poor planning, considering how half the time I try to knock the skittles out of a deceptacon, I end up staring at Prime's feet.

    Knock the skittles? 0.o

  9. I'm glad to hear that there's more good third party games.

A lot of it comes down to opinions, I'd say, and I'm fine with opinions when they're outside the realm of reviews. For example, I bought my dad Indianapolis 500 for the Wii for his birthday, despite it getting bad reviews on IGN. My dad loves the game and hasn't put it down for a couple days now, but that's mostly because he loves racing and the idea of a 10 season game is outstanding to him. I personally enjoy the game too, but that's mostly for the sense of speed and the VERY tight controls. Sure, excite truck is faster, but then again, indy 500 is more down to earth and the cars feel heavy, so it evens out.

IGN gave the game around a 5, saying something like "This game has poor graphics, a poor sense of speed and just comes across as a budget title. Fans of the era will enjoy, though, and the controls and drafting effects are nice", or some such. True, the games doesn't have amazing graphics, but they're good enough; the sky is actually quite pretty.

Poor sense of speed? Only if you've been playing F-Zero, lol.

    The point of this post?

To try and show that people's ideas are usually based on opinions. Was I clear, or did I just ramble, lol?

There ARE some games that are just horrible, however, like King's Knight for NES. I own the original and I can't believe big N allowed it to be put on the VC.

  10. Not if the save-game batteries are dead. They die completely after seven years, and take your save game data with it.

/lost his level 100, twelve-poke team, including a legit Mew from the first Toys-R-Us event back in 1999

OF COURSE! That's the best reason why to remake it! To get rid of that damn seven-year-old dead battery problem! GENIUS!

My pokemon yellow and silver are still working, and My sister's pokemon red is still working too...

    0.o

I see no point in a remake of G/S/C. I would probably buy it anyways to make dex completion easier(E.G. instead of restarting FR 3 times to get the dogs. I"m probably going to buy XD and colosseum, anyways.)

I honestly quite enjoyed FR; It was a great bit of nostalgia and just overall coolness. I got both emerald and FR just for dex; Nintendo sure knows what it's doing!!

  11. I never heard of any metroid plans from retro after MP3, but I'm sure Nintendo plans on making more metroid, but I think they always said MP3 would be the last MP game.

It's good, too; MP was an experiment that worked, but I think it's time to leave it before Nintendo accidentally maims it.

Plus, if they can't get the atmosphere in it, then they CAN'T DARE to make another one. Atmosphere is what makes the metroid games, the MP ones in particular.
